1. Phil Mickelson [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #20

Mickelson made last week’s cut at Torrey Pines, but had to withdraw prior to the start of the third round due to pain in his lower back. Lefty recently admitted that if he wasn’t the defending champion at TPC Scottsdale he would be skipping the event. Mickelson currently plans to evaluate his condition during a practice session on Wednesday and then decide if he’ll be playing. He is a top pick, but far from a sure thing; keep your options open.

2. Webb Simpson [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #67

Simpson finished T8 at TPC Scottsdale in 2011 and again in 2012, but skipped this event a year ago. In 2012 he entered the final round in second place, but fired his first round over par in nine frames at the site going back to 2010. After a T3 in the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, Simpson placed a respectable T23 at the Humana Challenge -- shooting his best two rounds over the weekend.

3. Bill Haas [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #41

Haas owns a pair of top-10s over the last five years at TPC Scottsdale, including last year’s career-best T6. This season he’s been erratic, with a poor showing at the Tournament of Champions and a T43 last week at Torrey Pines. In between, however, Haas placed T6 in the Humana Challenge. Despite the inconsistencies, Haas’ track record in the desert earns him a green light.

4. Keegan Bradley [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #106

Bradley has finished T24 and T15 in his two career starts at TPC Scottsdale. After placing 10th and T11 in two fall starts, Bradley placed T18 in the Humana Challenge and T16 in last week’s tournament at Torrey Pines.

5. Gary Woodland [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #42

Woodland has played TPC Scottsdale each of the last three years, placing T16, T26 and T5. In his three January tournaments he has collected two finishes inside the top 15, including last week’s T10. In fact, Woodland had a chance to win at Torrey Pines, but collapsed down the stretch (namely a double bogey on 17).

6. Bubba Watson [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #26

Watson has played TPC Scottsdale each of the last seven years -- missing a single cut in 2008, while finishing outside of the top 30 just one other time. In 2012 he placed a career-best T5. Watson is coming off a T23 at Torrey Pines.

7. Brandt Snedeker [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #27

After a solid T11 in the Tournament of Champions, much was expected of Snedeker, who was a house of fire to start 2013. However, he’s stumbled with a T58 at the Humana Challenge and a missed cut last week at Torrey Pines. Snedeker finished solo second at TPC Scottsdale last year and owns top-10s from 2011 and 2008. It is too early to panic, but another struggle this week will strike up concerns.

8. Ryan Palmer [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #87

Palmer didn’t manage a top-50 in his three fall starts,m but owns a T8 and solo second in his two 2014 appearances. Last year he placed solo fifth at TPC Scottsdale. Palmer opened the 2012 tournament with the lead, but dropped out of the top 50 over the final two rounds.

9. Graham Delaet [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #111

DeLaet has only made one cut in three chances at TPC Scottsdale, a T55 in 2012. However, he has been playing excellent golf as of late. After a T7 and a T6 in his last two October starts, DeLaet collected a share of second last week at Torrey Pines as the only player to go sub-70 in both weekend rounds.

10. Harris English [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #98

English placed T15 in his debut at TPC Scottsdale in 2012, but blew a possible top-20 last year with his play over the final two rounds. After a successful stint in the fall and strong efforts in Hawaii, he placed T33 at the Humana Challenge.

11. Chris Kirk [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #100

Kirk placed a T24 at TPC Scottsdale last year, shooting four sub-70 rounds. He won an event during the fall and most recently finished solo second in the Sony Open.

12. Ryan Moore [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #31

Moore will be suiting up for the first time since placing solo 10th in the Tournament of Championships nearly one month ago. Last year, he finished a career-best solo fourth at TPC Scottsdale after two years in which he placed outside of the top 70.
