Golf Rankings for Northern Trust Open
Bubba Watson [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #4
Watson is coming off a T2 at TPC Scottsdale, but has been shaky at Riviera. Since 2007 he’s missed three cuts and would have likely missed a fourth if not for withdrawing with an illness in 2011. In the three other starts Watson placed inside the top 20.
Harris English [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #40
English made the cut in his debut at Riviera last year; thanks to a strong second round, but otherwise struggled and finished T51. Including the fall series, English has one win and a total of five top-11s in eight starts this season.
Pat Perez [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #103
Perez continues to stay on a roll in 2014. In five appearances he’s only placed outside of the top 11 once. Perez has only managed one top-15 at Riviera since 2008, but is playing well enough to keep using regardless.
Jim Furyk [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #21
Furyk made a quiet season debut last week with a T35 at Pebble Beach. He’s put together three top-20s over the last four years at Riviera, including two straight top-15s.
Charl Schwartzel [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #17
Schwartzel competed at Riviera for the first time last year and instantly impressed with a T3 showing. After ending his 2013 with a string of strong results against lesser international competition, Schwartzel has finished midpack in his first two European Tour starts of 2014.
Kevin Na [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #70
Nah has placed inside the top 20 in three of his last four starts, including a T4 last week at Pebble Beach. He owns a T10 at Riviera from 2010 and a solo third the following year, but missed last year’s cut.
Jason Dufner [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #16
Dufner finished solo fifth and T29 in the two Hawaiian tournaments to start 2014. From there he suffered a poor result in Qatar thanks to an awful third round. Dufner hasn’t done much at Riviera. After missing the cut in 2010, he finished T29 and T52 before skipping the event last year.
Marc Leishman [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #69
Leishman finished solo fifth at the Sony Open and T2 at Torrey Pines prior to missing the cut at TPC Scottsdale. He’s played Riviera each of the last four years with a pair of top-20s and a pair of finishes outside of the top 60.
K.J. Choi [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #92
Choi opened the season with three top-20 finishes, highlighted by a share of second at Torrey Pines. However, in his last two appearances he placed T42 at TPC Scottsdale and missed the cut at Pebble Beach. Choi has played Riviera each of the last 13 years and hasn’t missed the cut yet. He hasn't finished worse than 33rd since 2004.
J.B. Holmes [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #165
From 2008-12, Holmes did not finish worse than 12th in five straight events at Riviera. Unfortunately, he’s been slow to regain his past form since undergoing two brain surgeries in recent years. Holmes missed last year’s cut and is coming off a T61 at Pebble Beach.
Charles Howell III [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #56
Howell beat Phil Mickelson in a playoff back in 2007 to claim victory at Riviera. He's returned to the site each of the last six years, missing three of the last four cuts and is without a top-50. CH3 is coming off a T6 at TPC Scottsdale, already his ninth start of the season.
Cameron Tringale [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #113
After a slow start to the season, Tringale has finished T12 and T13 in his last two starts. He’s played Riviera each of the last three years, placing inside the top 25 each time.
