Expert Picks for Wells Fargo Championship
Padraig Harrington [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #178
Harrington's lack of consistency over recent seasons has us a bit weary, but this particular course has been one of comfort. Paddy often puts up a fight at this course and that could have him ranked as one of the best "sleepers" against a stout field of candidates.
Nick Watney [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #140
Watney comes in off his worst finish of the season and it may be fair to question if he isn't entering hard times. He showed well on this track last season, but it is one of few outings he's enjoyed at this track. He lacks the history, but we love his skills.
Our first course-specific target of the week, Glover has been on our list of targets for Quail Hollow for years and he has served our rosters well during that time. We love him on this track and will continue to do so until he fails.
Brendon de Jonge [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #87
We can't stay away. This guy is out there playing each and every week, we list him in the rankings each and every week, and he seems to finish strong each and every week. He was in the mix at Quail Hollow last season, so why not come back for seconds?
Justin Rose [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #5
Rose tends to be volatile over time, but his recent work has been rather impressive. His history at Quail Hollow is actually rather negative and we feel that's reflected in his place on the rankings. If you like to gamble, we wouldn't be shocked to see Rose in the hunt.
Edoardo Molinari [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #115
Molinari returns to the Tour in what has been his most active season of international golf to date. His finishes have been all over the board and thus we tend to temper expectations, but he has insane talent.
Bubba Watson [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #4
Watson comes off the win and we'd normally anticipate the withdrawal, but with this week's field coming so strong we believe Watson will want to ride the momentum. He's rarely shown well at Quail Hollow, but he clearly has the wind at his back.
Geoff Ogilvy [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #101
There is strong temptation to move Ogilvy way up this week's rankings based on this play this season. He may be in the midst of his best campaign to date, but his history at Quail Hollow is strongly suggesting reason for concern that we can't give him top respect this week.
Sergio Garcia [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #6
We get a good feeling from Garcia as he continues down the comeback trail. He's shown well this season and we know he has knowledge on this particular set of links. He's touting definitive risk, but there is reason to believe he can make a showing.
Tim Clark [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #59 - Not Entered
Clark surprised many by jumping into the field for Quail Hollow, one of the few golfers on the Tour who has rarely been there to play this season. He has no sense of momentum coming forward and we won't be wagering a roster spot of our own on his bag, but he has the talent to do well.
Bill Haas [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #41
Haas has enjoyed his best season to date and he seems to be putting his best foot forward when the game's elite are there and hunting for the win. He lacks history at Quail Hollow, but we know this environment could have him at this best.
Pat Perez [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #200
Perez is a specific target we utilize at Quail Hollow, one of the most underrated members of the field in terms of length of history at the course tied to final results. He's been at or near the top of leaderboards at this event with consistency.
