Golf Rankings for the Memorial Tournament
Rory McIlroy [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #1
After placing T10 and solo fifth in his first two career starts at Muirfield, McIlroy has missed the cut and placed T57 last year. However, he’s coming off a victory at last week’s BMW PGA Championship (an event on the European Tour), give McIlroy five consecutive finishes of eighth or better.
Adam Scott [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #3
Scott won last week’s PGA TOUR event at Colonial, his second top-three finish over his last four tournaments. He has now made 34 consecutive cuts, the longest active streak on Tour. At Muirfield, Scott owns a pair of top-fives in 2006 and 2007 in addition to last year’s T13.
Matt Kuchar [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #11
Kuchar is the defending champ at Muirfield after withdrawing from the Memorial in 2012. From 2007-11, Kuchar finished 13th or better with a pair of top-fives and four top-10s at the site. He’s coming off a missed cut at Colonial after placing 17th or better with four top-fives in six previous starts.
Justin Rose [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #5
Rose won at Muirfield back in 2012 and has finished eighth each of the last two years. After an inconsistent start to the season, Rose has placed inside the top 15 in four straight tournaments with a pair of top-fives in his last two.
Jim Furyk [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #7
Furyk had recorded six straight top-20s with four inside the top 10 and was the runner-up in his last two before last week’s T51 at Colonial. Since 2009, Furyk has three finishes of 13th or better and only one finish worse than 21st.
Jordan Spieth [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #9
Over his last seven starts, Spieth has recorded five top-15s with a pair of top-fives and only missed one cut. Spieth played the Memorial for the first time last year, placing T63.
Dustin Johnson [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #22
Johnson started hot then got hurt. DJ has looked better in his last two starts, however, placing T7 and T14 the last two weeks. Johnson finished a career-best fourth at Muirfield in 2011, T19 in 2012, but missed last year’s cut.
Gary Woodland [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #39
Woodland is coming off a T7 at the Byron Nelson, his best result of 2014. Over his last seven, he has only finished outside the top 20 once. Woodland missed the cut at Muirfield in 2012, but owns a solo sixth from 2011 and a T16 last year.
Luke Donald [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #34
Since 2008, Donald has scored five consecutive finishes of 21st or better with four top-15s. However, he has been erratic lately with a missed cut at Augusta, a runner-up performance at Harbour Town and a T38 in THE PLAYERS.
Phil Mickelson [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #16
Mickelson didn’t played Muirfield last year and withdrew after the first round in 2012. Prior to that, Lefty finished 20th or better in six starts from 1999-2011. This will be his first start since missing the cut in surprising fashion at the Masters.
Bubba Watson [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #4
After winning the Masters for the second time in his career, Watson’s lone start has been a T48 in THE PLAYERS. Bubba has played Muirfield each of the last eight years with two missed cuts and zero top-20s.
Jason Day [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #8
Day is looking to compete for the first time since a T20 at Augusta and taking time to mend an injured thumb. Muirfield isn’t the ideal venue for Day, as he’s missed two cuts and doesn’t own a top-25 in five career starts.
