Expert Picks for HP Byron Nelson Championship
Marc Leishman [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #37
With several quality finishes on the 2011 resume, it is becoming difficult to ignore Leishman as an option. He comes off a strong week of work at Colonial and we like his chances of pushing that forward.
Briny Baird [Yahoo Class C]
Baird has been a target at the Byron Nelson (for dedicated fantasy heads) for some time and nothing happened last season to sway those thoughts. He hasn't been as potent this season, but he is experienced and he adores these links.
Rory Sabbatini [Yahoo Class C]
Sabbatini has been a persistent force over recent weeks on the Tour and this particular challenge offers what may be the most vulnerable field he has faced along the way. If he can maintain his recent focus, he should be in the mix on Sunday.
Jeff Overton [Yahoo Class C]
Overton should be ranked higher based on talent and potential, but he tends to be a bit erratic and he lacks deep history on this course. He showed well here last season, but we would lean toward several vets above for fantasy needs.
D.A. Points [Yahoo Class C]
Points hasn't been on our list for some time, but he served as one of our primary targets last year at the Four Seasons and he did not disappoint. He lacks the recent resume to grab much attention, but he may be one of the best values on the board.
Ryan Palmer [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #103
Palmer was on the hunt again last week, but a nightmare came to fruition on Sunday (shooting 73) at Colonial. He has been a great friend for fantasy owners over much of this season and we want to lean his way again for the Byron Nelson.
Jason Dufner [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #34
Dufner is working hard for our love this season and he's making it easy to buy in. The guy rarely takes time off, he rarely falls far from the top of the final leaderboard, and this week he's easy to justify.
Brian Davis [Yahoo Class C]
Davis has been on our short list for this event for several years as a reliable vet with great history on these links. To be fair, we don't anticipate he can compete with our top five, but we doubt he finishes too far behind.
Charlie Wi [Yahoo Class C]
Wi was on the scene last week, one of several quality outings he's enjoyed already this season, making this long-time grinder one of the best from the Tour's non-elite crop. With a field low in quality, we would expect Wi might make some noise.
D.J. Trahan [Yahoo Class C]
Trahan causes concern as he tends to be an all-or-nothing proposition for fantasy owners, capable of fighting for an oversized check or topping out on the first two days and missing the cut. He has shown well here in the past but buyers should beware. Trahan carries definitive risk.
Brandt Snedeker [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #32 - Not Entered
Snedeker has picked up his play of late, but we worry as his resume on this historic track is checkered. He appears to have the momentum, but (like many of the young up and comers on the Tour) he can struggle with consistency and may find trouble on these greens.
J.J. Henry [Yahoo Class C]
Henry has been a favorite for our rosters over the past few years at the Byron Nelson and he has been especially potent since the changes in 2007. He may not be able to keep pace with some of the top dogs in this field, but we expect he'll show well and serve as an option few will be employing for the week.
