Expert Picks for HP Byron Nelson Championship
Kim has been so disappointing we are tempted, following another missed cut at Colonial, to leave him off the list in full. However, with a severe lack of representation from the game's upper crust, we can't go without mentioning he is there and ready for your consideration.
Arjun Atwal [Yahoo Class C]
Atwal is another option we rarely mention in the rankings. His time on the Tour has been short and he has been as inconsistent as any golfer trying to work his way into comfort at the professional level. However, he has shown well here in limited starts and thus the stunted field makes him a viable option.
Scott McCarron [Yahoo Class C]
McCarron tends to enter our thoughts in the late reaches of the Tour schedule, but this is one instance where he can be of service. He almost always plays well at the Four Seasons and few can claim the same.
Shaun Micheel [Yahoo Class C]
We would list Micheel higher, but he has struggled with recent performance (including a disappointing showing at Quail Hollow). He typically does well at the Byron Nelson, but we would warn he is not worthy of rank as a hot target.
Rod Pampling [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #161
Pampling, like Micheel, has the history we tend to covet from this spot, but his recent work scares us off the scent. While we love his status as a vet with tons of work on these links, we doubt we could jump his way without trepidation.
If you want to reach for a deep sleeper, Wetterich is your man. He's motivated by the need for earnings to get his Tour card back, he is a former champion on this course (a win that isn't too far back in the rearview mirror), and he's been targeting this spot for weeks.
