Expert Picks for Travelers Championship
Carl Pettersson [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #179
It wasn't that long ago we were reaching for Pettersson at any turn we hit in the fantasy schedule. He has since cooled and, this week, he actually owns history that turns us away. In listing the top 30, he gets the mention but we have no desire to add him to our rosters at the TPC River Highlands.
Sean O'Hair [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #156
This writer still yearns to drive the Sean O'Hair bandwagon, but he has been troubled thus far this season. The success of fellow Texas natives on this track should suggest O'Hair would be in the mix, but his potential is the only asset we see of value as we select rosters for this week.
As we near the end of the list, we feel justified in noting Barnes as a golfer to consider. His resume this season has been extremely volatile, but his work at River Highlands last season suggests this could be one of his favorite tracks on Tour. If he finishes near the top of the final leaderboard this week, we won't necessarily be surprised and he'll be listed higher in our ranks for this tourney next year.
Ben Curtis [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #103
If you select one name from the low ranks of our list to wager on this week, it should be Ben Curtis. Yes, his bag waivers as much as any on the Tour and he rarely comes through with the top finishes we desire as fantasy owners. That said, this is one of few courses he seems to enjoy at a level we can appreciate.
Webb Simpson [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #42
Here is one name we might appreciate if momentum is an attribute to target. Simpson has put progressive play on display with regularity over recent weeks and he has shown well on the TPC River Highlands track during a short-but-revealing history on the Tour. Webb cannot be valued among the game's elite, but he certainly seems capable of surprise this week.
Vijay Singh [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #155
Vijay may be the ultimate gamble for golf heads this week. He owns history on this track (including recent finishes that suggest it is one place he can always shine), he isn't so far removed from memory as an elite golfer that we cannot see him rising this week, and if his putter can come around, he'll be capable of reward as other owners refuse to give him consideration.
