Expert Picks for Mayakoba Classic
Ricky Barnes [Yahoo Class B]
Barnes is a gamble you may be tempted to leave on the table, but his talents and skills are hard to deny. He has a limited number of starts at El Camaleon, but we've seen Barnes do more with less in the past.
Jason Dufner [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #68 - Not Entered
Against a stunted field lacking undeniable star power, Dufner gains momentum based on a respectable early-season resume and his ability to compete against top-shelf talent. He's unknown to most, but Dufner is worthy of note against this group.
Paul Stankowski [Yahoo Class C]
Few will mark Stankowski's name in review of the published field for the Mayakoba, but those who have followed this tourney over recent seasons understand that El Camaleon is a great spot to reach for his services.
Wetterich is a wager of desperation, not on the part of the owner but on the part of the golfer. Once respected as one of the game's rising stars, Wetterich needs a top finish to retain playing privilege and fulfill his major medical exemption. We like his chances.
Joe Ogilvie [Yahoo Class C]
In keeping a running list of past success on various courses, we find Ogilvie is a regular visitor to El Camaleon and we find he has filed more than a few finishes of benefit for fantasy owners at this particular event. As such, we return to take advantage.
Henrik Stenson [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #3 - Not Entered
Stenson is not so far removed from rank as one of the game's elite that we can ignore his potential at this event. To be fair, this is his second year on the outside looking in and he wasn't particularly successful here last season. Still, the talent is there and undeniable.
David Toms [Yahoo Class C]
Toms is one of the more experienced and respected names in this week's field and as such we cannot deny him a place on the weekly rankings. He hasn't been as active as we would like, but we know he has the swing to go low.
John Daly [Yahoo Class C]
Rare is the opportunity to suggest Daly as a fantasy option these days but at this particular event, against this particular field, we may be ready to buy in. He's done well in early starts thus far and appears to be focused and ready.
Miller is another from the relative unknowns who have surged over recent weeks to gain our interest, and with a field lacking proven quality we may rely on momentum more at El Camaleon than we would in other weeks, making Miller a target.
Ryuji Imada [Yahoo Class C] - Not Entered
Imada is known to go long and he has the putter to do work on any track in the land. He has yet to achieve his full potential, but he's certainly played golf at a level worthy of consideration from fantasy owners this week.
Joe Durant [Yahoo Class C]
Durant is a long-standing member of golf's good guys, and more often than not he competes against the lackluster fields you might find at event like the Mayakoba. At El Camaleon he is proven as a golfer to covet for fantasy owners.
Fredrik Jacobson [Yahoo Class C]
Jacobson took a definitive step forward in 2010 and we had every reason to believe he would continue that progress in 2011. We've seen some early flashes, but he has yet to finish as we would like. If he can get right, it may be this week.
