Expert Picks for John Deere Classic
Ricky Barnes [Yahoo Class B]
Barnes has let us down over recent starts and is struggling to put four rounds together. He will have a respectable chance to keep that problem at bay this week, and if he does so against this field, he could surprise.
Paul Goydos [Yahoo Class C]
He played well here last year. He didn't do so hot in any others. Still, Goydos is one of those golfers who tends to shine in spotlights when the stars aren't around.
Kenny Perry [Yahoo Class C]
I recently tweeted that Perry was dead to me. I didn't know the field would be so thin in Illinois. He tends to play well in the Midwest and has been especially potent at the John Deere, but his game has been rather painful to watch this season.
He's young. He's Australian. He's talented. We like all of that. He also played well here last season. He's Matt Jones and he's a total gamble, but if you are reaching this deep into the list for options, we believe he has more potential than some.
Mike Weir [Yahoo Class C]
No one needs a top finish more than Weir. He's been awful this season, but we know the swing that won majors is in there lurking. This field is as vulnerable as any, so why not?
Bryce Molder [Yahoo Class B]
Molder was among top finishers at the AT&T National last week, and while he has yet to demonstrate consistency, we believe he can piece together another strong outing against a field lacking proven talent.
