Expert Picks for the Honda Classic
Jimmy Walker [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #13
We listed Walker as a top target for the Mayakoba last week but he opted for rest, thus bringing his hot hand back to action for the Honda Classic. He doesn't have the history we desire for most candidates, but his momentum shouldn't be dismissed.
Angel Cabrera [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #80
Cabrera rarely misses a cut at the Honda Classic, but he has also struggled to turn his undeniable talent into top finishes at this course. We know he has the game and should be there on Sunday, but expectations should be tempered.
Fredrik Jacobson [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #91
Jacobson has become a favorite amongst the game's second class, but last season he pushed to fight golf's elite for a win at the Honda Classic. His history fails to support a view of certain performance this week, but we like what we've seen thus far in 2011.
Yuta Ikeda - World Ranking: #116
This may be a total shot in the dark, but Ikeda is established as one of the most exciting golfers the Asian Tour has produced in some time. He has destroyed the courses on his native tour and we believe his skills will translate at the Honda Classic.
Scott Verplank [Yahoo Class C]
We end this week's rankings with two seasoned vets who have struggled to meet expectation thus far. Verplank has taken his time in getting back on the links of the PGA Tour, but we know he has the game to rise at a moment's notice.
Stewart Cink [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #190 - Not Entered
Cink showed a bit of spark, as he often does, at the Match Play Championship last week and we are hoping he can push that momentum forward. Respect for his skill gets him on the list of 30, but he should be ranked higher, thus communicating our concern.
