Penei Sewell DET OT
Lions' Penei Sewell: Inks massive extension
2h agoSewell and the Lions agreed to terms Wednesday on a four-year, $112 million contract extension, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Sewell's deal, which reportedly includes $85 million guaranteed, makes him the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL. The tackle has played at a high level since joining Detroit as the No. 7 overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, but he took a step forward in 2023 while earning first-team All Pro honors. In addition to the elite RT, the Lions extended top wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown to a four-year extension Wednesday, both one day in advance of the 2024 NFL Draft kicking off.

Rashod Bateman BAL WR
Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Inks extension with Baltimore
2h agoBateman signed a two-year contract extension Wednesday.
Bateman was already under contract through the upcoming season in the final year of his rookie deal, but the Ravens had until May 2 to decide whether to exercise the receiver's $14.44 million team option for 2025. By reaching an extension with Bateman, the Ravens will no longer have to decide on whether to exercise or decline the option, as he's now on the team's books through 2026. The 24-year-old appeared in 16 of the Ravens' 17 regular-season games this past season, catching 32 of 56 targets for 367 yards and one touchdown. Despite Bateman's underwhelming production during his third NFL season, head coach John Harbaugh noted earlier in the offseason that he views the wideout as a candidate to "take a big step" forward in 2024, per Ryan Mink of the Ravens' official site. The Ravens' pass-catching corps should look mostly similar in 2024 as it did in 2023, as No. 1 wideout Zay Flowers is entering his second season and standout tight end Mark Andrews is back in the fold, though Odell Beckham is currently a free agent and may not be brought back.

Alex Highsmith PIT LB
Steelers' Alex Highsmith: Restructures deal
2h agoHighsmith and the Steelers agreed Wednesday to restructure his contract and create roughly $7 million in cap space, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Highsmith is likely converting a portion of his base salary into a signing bonus, with Rapaport calling the move a "simple" restructure. The 2020 third-round pick notched a solid 7.0 sacks across 17 regular-season appearances in 2023, a far cry from his career-high 14.5 sacks in 2022, but he remains an integral part of Pittsburgh's defense for the foreseeable future.

Ja'Marr Chase CIN WR
Bengals' Ja'Marr Chase: Fifth-year option picked up
3h agoThe Bengals have elected to pick up Chase's fifth-year contract option.
With the expected move, Chase will remain under contract with Cincinnati through the 2025 campaign. This past season, the 2021 first-rounder recorded a career-high 100 catches (on 145 targets) for 1,216 yards and seven TDs in 16 regular-season games. The 24-year-old is thus poised to remain QB Joe Burrow's top pass-catching option for the next couple of years, and in that context Chase remains a top tier fantasy option at the wide receiver position.

Xavien Howard MIA CB
Xavien Howard: Past foot injury
3h agoHoward (foot) was fully cleared for football activities earlier this month, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports.
This news, which was relayed by Howard's doctor in a letter, should help pave the way for the free agent cornerback, who dealt with a foot issue late last season, to catch on with another team. Prior to missing Miami's last two contests (Week 18 and the team's wild-card loss to Kansas City), Howard -- a four-time Pro Bowler -- had recorded 45 tackles and an interception in 13 games.

Amon-Ra St. Brown DET WR
Lions' Amon-Ra St. Brown: Signing massive extension
4h agoSt. Brown and the Lions reached agreement Tuesday on a four-year extension, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
The initial report has it as a $120 million deal, including $77 million guaranteed. If those numbers hold up when more details come out, St. Brown will tie Tyreek Hill's WR record for average annual value ($30 million) and have the stand-alone record for money guaranteed. Of course, he probably won't hold those records for long, as the list of star WRs nearing the end of their rookie contracts includes Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb and Ja'Marr Chase. In any case, St. Brown has improved his receiving volume and fantasy production with each passing season in the NFL, and he should have another big year in 2024 while catching passes from QB Jared Goff in an offense that will be coordinated by Ben Johnson for at least one more season.

Quinn Priester PIT SP
Pirates' Quinn Priester: Set to start Friday
5m agoPriester is slated to make his next appearance as the starting pitcher for Friday's game against the Giants in San Francisco, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.
Earlier in the week, the Pirates listed Priester as their probable starter for Wednesday's game against the Brewers, but Pittsburgh is instead having Josh Fleming open Wednesday's contest for what will be a bullpen day. Priester won't have his turn in the rotation skipped, however, as the Pirates will simply push him back in the schedule a couple of days to have him start Friday's series opener at Oracle Park. Priester will look to rebound after he struggled mightily in his 2024 MLB debut this past Friday versus the Red Sox, taking a loss while allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits and one walk over 4.1 innings.

Cody Bellinger CHC CF
Cubs' Cody Bellinger: Lands on IL with rib fracture
12m agoCubs manager Craig Counsell confirmed that Bellinger has been placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a right rib fracture, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Bellinger was removed from Tuesday's 7-2 win over the Astros with what the team had labeled as a right rib contusion, after initial X-rays had returned negative. However, after Bellinger was sent in for a CT scan earlier Wednesday, he was found to have suffered structural damage to his ribs, and he'll now be forced to miss at least the next week and a half while he heals up from the injury. The Cubs called up Pete Crow-Armstrong from Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding move, and he could end up serving as the primary replacement for Bellinger in center field if Counsell wants to prioritize defense over offense.

Gavin Williams CLE SP
Guardians' Gavin Williams: Shut down after setback with elbow
16m agoWilliams will receive an injection and be shut down for seven days after feeling right elbow discomfort following a start in extended spring training, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.
The soreness was similar to what he first felt during spring training in a weighted-ball workout. The Guardians are hopeful that Williams can begin a throwing program in a week and ramp things back up, but it's certainly no guarantee things will go that smoothly. Even in a best-case scenario, Williams figures to be sidelined well into May now.

Jonathan India CIN 2B
Reds' Jonathan India: Remains on bench Wednesday
24m agoIndia (illness) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.
India and Jake Fraley are being held out of the starting nine for the fourth and fifth consecutive games, respectively, as both work to return to 100 percent health in their recoveries from illness. Santiago Espinal has been serving as India's primary replacement and will draw another start at second base Wednesday.
-
Jake Fraley CIN RF
Reds' Jake Fraley: Remains on bench Wednesday
25m agoFraley (illness) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.
Fraley will be on the bench for a fifth consecutive game while he continues to work his way back to full strength as he recovers from an illness. The Reds are viewing the outfielder as day-to-day, so despite his continued absence, Fraley is expected to avoid a stint on the 10-day injured list.
-
Michael Massey KC 2B
Royals' Michael Massey: Not in Wednesday's lineup
28m agoMassey is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.
Massey had started four of the first five games since being activated from the injured list, but he will begin this one on the bench while Adam Frazier handles second base. The 26-year-old is 3-for-14 with a couple RBI since returning from a back injury.

Giannis Antetokounmpo MIL PF
Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo: Still not scrimmaging
2h agoAntetokounmpo (calf) has started doing stationary jump shooting but still isn't running or cutting as of Wednesday, Shams Charania reported on FanDuel's Run It Back.
Damian Lillard had another stellar first-half performance in Game 2 but couldn't keep the Bucks close in the second half as the Pacers evened the series. Antetokounmpo's status for Game 3 on Friday likely won't be known until Thursday afternoon, but Charania suggests Milwaukee should be preparing to play without Antetokounmpo again. The MVP candidate has missed five straight games dating back to the regular season and hasn't played since April 9. However, if Antetokounmpo gets the green light, it's safe to expect he'll handle as many minutes as necessary in an attempt to keep the Bucks' postseason hopes alive.
-
Nikola Jovic MIA PF
Heat's Nikola Jovic: Dealing with minor back issue
2h agoJovic is probable for Wednesday's Game 2 against the Celtics due to back discomfort/spasms.
Jovic is still expected to suit up despite being a late addition to the injury report. He posted 10 points, six rebounds and one block in 26 minutes during the 114-94 Game 1 loss and has started 29 straight appearances dating back to the regular season.
-
Dean Wade CLE PF
Cavaliers' Dean Wade: Ruled out for Game 3
3h agoWade (knee) didn't practice Wednesday and will be unavailable for Thursday's Game 3 against the Magic, Evan Dammarell of FearTheSword.com reports.
Wade hasn't suited up since March 8 due to a right knee sprain, and it's not yet clear when he'll be able to return. However, the team has been evaluating him on a game-by-game basis, and his next chance to suit up will be in Saturday's Game 4.
-
Jalen Suggs ORL SG
Magic's Jalen Suggs: Goes through practice
3h agoSuggs (knee) was able to practice Wednesday, Dan Savage of the Magic's official site reports.
Coach Jamahl Mosley said that Suggs is feeling better, and previous reports have indicated that the guard is expected to play in Game 3 Thursday against the Cavaliers. Fantasy managers can expect more clarity when Orlando releases their official injury report Wednesday evening.
-
Ben Simmons BKN PG
Nets' Ben Simmons: On track for training camp
3h agoNets general manager Sean Marks said Wednesday that "all signs point to" Simmons (back) being available to start next season's training camp, Tim Bontemps of ESPN.com reports.
Simmons underwent a successful microscopic partial discectomy in mid-March to alleviate the nerve impingement in his lower back, marking yet another injury-related setback for the 2017 No. 1 overall pick. The 27-year-old has played in only 57 games across the last three seasons, but when available, he has shown he can still be an active defender and excellent playmaker. Simmons has one more year remaining on his current contract, a five-year extension he signed with Philadelphia in 2019.
-
De'Anthony Melton PHI SG
76ers' De'Anthony Melton: Practices Wednesday
4h agoCoach Nick Nurse said Melton (back) practiced Wednesday and is on track to suit up for Thursday's Game 3 against the Knicks, but the shooting guard will likely still be listed as questionable on the official injury report, Kyle Neubeck of AllPHLY.com reports.
Melton has appeared in only five games since Jan. 12 and last suited up April 12, so even if he gets the green light, he'll presumably be eased into action. The sixth-year wing made only 38 regular-season appearances and averaged 11.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.6 steals in 26.9 minutes per game.
-
Ivan Prosvetov COL G
Avalanche's Ivan Prosvetov: Heads to AHL
15m agoProsvetov was reassigned to AHL Colorado on Wednesday.
Prosvetov had a 3.16 GAA and an .895 save percentage in 11 outings with the Avalanche during the regular season. He has also supplied a 2.33 GAA and a .921 save percentage across 21 minor-league contests.
-
Chris Wagner COL RW
Avalanche's Chris Wagner: Dropped to minors
16m agoWagner was sent down to AHL Colorado on Wednesday.
Wagner passed through waivers Tuesday in order to make him available for the Eagles' playoff matchup with AHL Abbotsford on Wednesday. Even though Wagner was a healthy scratch for the Avs' first two postseason contests, Wagner will likely come back up to the NHL ahead of Game 3 versus Winnipeg on Friday.
-
Brad Hunt COL D
Avalanche's Brad Hunt: Sent down to minors
30m agoHunt was reassigned to AHL Colorado on Wednesday.
Hunt hasn't played in either of the Avs' first two playoff games. With the Eagles kicking off the Calder Cup playoffs against AHL Abbotsford on Wednesday, the blueliner should be expected to link up with the minor-league club. Don't be surprised to see Hunt recalled to the Avalanche ahead of Friday's Game 3 clash with Winnipeg, though he figures to remain an emergency depth option.
-
Cam Talbot LA G
Kings' Cam Talbot: Set to start Wednesday
2h agoTalbot is expected to start on the road against Edmonton in Game 2 on Wednesday, per Tom Gazzola of Edmonton Sports Talk.
Talbot will seek revenge after allowing six goals on 44 shots en route to a 7-4 loss to the Oilers on Monday. He had a 27-20-6 record, 2.50 GAA and .913 save percentage in 54 regular-season appearances. Edmonton, which ranked fourth offensively with 3.56 goals per contest during the 2023-24 campaign, will continue to be a challenging opponent for the veteran goaltender.
-
Thatcher Demko VAN G
Canucks' Thatcher Demko: Is week-to-week
2h agoDemko is regarded as week-to-week, coach Rick Tocchet told Thomas Drance of The Athletic on Wednesday.
Demko was a key part of the Canucks' regular-season success, posting a 35-14-2 record, 2.45 GAA and .918 save percentage in 51 contests. He also stopped 20 of 22 shots en route to a 4-2 victory over the Predators in Game 1 on Sunday. The Canucks will likely lean on Casey DeSmith during Demko's absence.
-
Tyler Myers VAN D
Canucks' Tyler Myers: Under the weather
2h agoMyers was dealing with the flu, which caused him to miss Game 2 against the Predators on Tuesday, Thomas Drance of The Athletic reports.
Myers had been rolling offensively prior to falling ill, recording five points in his last six games, including a short-handed goal. Without Myers in the lineup, Noah Juulsen stepped onto the blue line and likely will continue to fill in for Myers if he remains unavailable for Game 3 on Friday.
