Golf Rankings for Waste Management Phoenix Open
John Rollins [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #135
Even though Rollins has not cracked the top-50 in three straight starts at Scottsdale, he is playing well enough right now to trust. He is coming off a third place result at Torrey Pines -- his second top-10 in three starts. Rollins ranks fifth in total driving, 12th in scoring average, and seventh in All-Around Ranking.
Brendon de Jonge [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #87
In three career starts at Scottsdale, de Jonge owns a pair of top-25s. He has been impressive so far this year with finishes of T10, T12 and T27. The native of Zimbabwe currently ranks sixth in scoring average, 11th in birdie average, and 19th in All-Around Ranking.
Keegan Bradley [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #31
While Bradley has never competed at Scottsdale, he has finished 22nd or better in all three starts this season and sits 12th in All-Around Ranking. Bradley experienced a dream rookie season in 2011 and hasn't shown signs of slowing down. Among the first timers in this week's field, Bradley is the top choice.
Charles Howell III [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #56
After finishing with a share of second in the Sony Open, Howell has made two straight cuts (but with results outside the top 40). He finished T4 at Scottsdale in 2010, but missed the cut here last year. In general, Howell played very well in 2011, finishing eighth in scoring average, but has suddenly become a risky start.
Dustin Johnson [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #22
After withdrawing from the Humana Challenge due to back pain, Johnson got off to a good start in the Farmers Insurance Open. He would struggle from there and finished T43. DJ has only made two starts at Scottsdale, missing one cut and finishing T29 last year. Despite some impressive skills, Johnson hasn't been playing well thus far and hasn't done much on this course.
Camilo Villegas [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #140
Two starts into the season, Villegas has finished T19 and T22, respectively. While those are not lights-out performances, it's a far cry from the rocky season Villegas endured last year until recording three top-10s in his final four starts. Villegas finished T8 at Scottsdale in 2010, but withdrew last year due to a back injury.
Scott Piercy [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #92
Even though Piercy recorded top-10s at Scottsdale in 2009 and 2010, he skipped this event last year. Back in 2006, Piercy finished T15 at the site, so time off doesn't seem to bother his performance. Piercy owns three top-25s in four starts this season and is coming off a T13 at Torrey Pines.
Gary Woodland [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #39
Last year, Woodland finished T5 at Scottsdale, but has struggled in his two starts this season. He ended 2011 fifth in driving distance, 12th in greens in regulation percentage, 13th in birdie average and 14th in scoring average. Woodland was among the top young players on Tour a year ago, but needs to rediscover that consistency.
Jason Dufner [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #36
In 2011, Dufner bounced between missing cuts and contending to win tournaments from week to week. Dufner opened his season by missing the cut at the Sony Open, but finished T12 the next week the Humana Challenge. Last year, Dufner finished as the runner-up at Scottsdale after losing in a playoff to Mark Wilson.
Vijay Singh [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #155
After missing the cut in 2008, Singh took two years off from competing at Scottsdale until finishing T3 last year. He struggled at the Sony Open, but finished T13 at the Farmers Insurance Open. Singh won this event in 1995 and again in 2003. While he's not the elite player he once was, Singh is a nice boom-or-bust selection.
Bud Cauley [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #89
Dating back to last year, Cauley has two top-fives, five top-15s and eight top-30 finishes in 11 Tour starts. The 21-year-old phenom ranks 15th in total driving, 21st in scoring average and 26th in All-Around ranking. He's never competed at Scottsdale, but a lack of experience has not been an issue thus far.
Bryce Molder [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #169
Molder has finished 13th or better in two of his three starts this season while missing one cut. In the last two years at Scottsdale, Molder finished T8 in 2010 but T62 last year. While he experienced mixed results in 2011, Molder was sharp in the Fall Series and has carried some of that success into 2012.
