Kadarius Toney KC WR
Chiefs' Kadarius Toney: Still in team's plans
4h agoThe Chiefs are optimistic Toney will contribute in 2024, ESPN's Adam Teicher reports.
GM Brett Veach recently referred to Toney as "probably our most talented wideout," and coach Andy Reid said the 25-year-old is "arguably one of the most talented guys on the team." The implication, supported by Veach's comments, is that Toney's lack of playing time last season was largely a product of medical struggles, starting with a meniscus injury during training camp. The problem, of course, is that the health issues have been a constant, with the 2021 first-round pick missing at least four games in each of his three pro seasons and also seeing his snaps limited a number of other times. Toney has never recorded more than six targets or 30 offensive snaps in a game with the Chiefs, though he did have some big moments during the team's Super Bowl run at the end of 2022. An ongoing legal situation involving Chiefs WR Rashee Rice could open the door for Toney to get more playing time at some point in 2024, with his YAC ability potentially making him a good fit to see a lot of the quick passes Rice hauled in as a rookie in 2023. Fantasy relevance seems like somewhat of a longshot nonetheless, especially after Toney was a healthy(ish) scratch for the Chiefs' Super Bowl win over San Francisco in February.

Skyy Moore KC WR
Chiefs' Skyy Moore: Needs to earn spot on roster
4h agoMoore isn't a lock to make the 2024 roster, according to ESPN's Adam Teicher.
The 2022 second-round pick has averaged 1.4 catches for 16.5 yards through 30 regular-season games, mostly serving as Kansas City's fourth or fifth wide receiver. It won't be surprising if Moore ends up earning a depth job again, though his fate partially depends on how things play out with the 2024 NFL Draft, Rashee Rice's legal situation and Kadarius Toney's health, among other factors. Rice and free-agent signing Marquise Brown figure to play a lot when available, though neither can exactly be called reliable at this point in time. Even so, Moore's lack of playing time and production through two seasons suggests he's not the most likely beneficiary in the event things go south for Rice and/or Brown. The Chiefs seem more optimistic about Toney and Justin Watson, and they might devote an early draft pick to the position.

Jake Browning CIN QB
Bengals' Jake Browning: Signs through 2025
5h agoBrowning signed a two-year contract with the Bengals on Tuesday.
Undrafted back in 2019, the QB spent two years on Minnesota's practice squad and then two seasons on Cincinnati's. Browning finally got his shot in 2023, winning the No. 2 QB job for the Bengals and eventually replacing an injured Joe Burrow (wrist) for the final seven and a half games of the season. Browning played surprisingly well down the stretch, with 15 total TDs (three rushing) and seven turnovers (all INTs) while leading all qualified passers in completion percentage (70.4) and ranking fifth in yards per attempt (8.0). The 28-year-old's status as an exclusive-rights free agent this offseason essentially locked him into staying with the Bengals, and the two-year deal now sets him up to be a restricted free agent after 2025. His solid performance in 2023 --combined with 2-3 more years of team contract control -- could make Browning a trade target for QB-needy teams, though there haven't been rumblings of interest this spring.

Rasul Douglas BUF CB
Bills' Rasul Douglas: Key acquisition in 2023
12h agoDouglas posted 61 tackles, 1.0 sacks, 14 passes defensed, five interceptions, a pick-six and three fumble recoveries over 16 regular-season games split between the Packers and Bills.
The Bills acquired Douglas from Green Bay in a Halloween trade, and the veteran played a key role in helping the Bills turn around their season and win a fourth straight AFC East title. With Buffalo losing several key pieces this offseason, Douglas will remain a clear-cut starter and locker room leader entering his eighth NFL season. He's had four-plus picks in each of the last three seasons.
-
Jacob Phillips CLE LB
Texans' Jacob Phillips: Houston bound
20h agoPhillips (pectoral) inked a one-year deal with the Texans on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Phillips spent last year on Cleveland's injured reserve due to a torn pectoral muscle. It was his second straight season-ending pectoral injury, as the same injury ended his 2022 campaign early. The 2020 third-round pick's addition to the Texans' offseason roster indicates his health is back to up to par. He will now compete for a role at linebacker in Houston.
-
Mitchell Wilcox NE TE
Patriots' Mitchell Wilcox: Inks new deal
23h agoWilcox signed a contract with the Patriots on Monday, Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald reports.
Wilcox now will call New England home after spending the first three campaigns of his career In Cincinnati. The 27-year-old appeared in all 17 regular-season games in 2023, mostly operating as the Bengals' No. 3 option at tight end and recording nine catches (on 12 targets) for 56 yards. If he can make the Patriots' roster this year, he'll likely be a depth option for them, too.

Tobias Myers MIL RP
Brewers' Tobias Myers: Making major-league debut Tuesday
1m agoMyers will start against the Pirates on Tuesday in what will be his major-league debut.
Myers was up with the Brewers briefly last week but didn't make an appearance. He'll be on the bump to start Tuesday's contest after collecting a 1.62 ERA and 22:7 K:BB over 16.2 innings this season at Nashville. Myers is filling in for Wade Miley (elbow) and could earn additional starts if he pitches well.
-
Robert Garcia WAS RP
Nationals' Robert Garcia: Goes on IL with illness
9m agoThe Nationals placed Garcia on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to April 21, with the flu, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
There's been a bug going around the Nationals' clubhouse and Garcia got it bad enough to force an IL stint. He'll be eligible to return May 7 and seems likely to be back at that time.
-
Rafael Devers BOS 3B
Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Absence continues Tuesday
10m agoDevers (knee) is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game at Cleveland, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.
The expectation was that Devers would return to action Tuesday versus the Guardians coming off Monday's team off day, but he'll instead be out of the lineup for the fifth straight game due to the bone bruise on his left knee. It's unclear if the 27-year-old suffered some sort of setback, but he should continue to be considered day-to-day for now. Pablo Reyes is starting at the hot corner and batting ninth.
-
Jake Alu WAS LF
Nationals' Jake Alu: Designated for assignment
11m agoThe Nationals designated Alu for assignment Tuesday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
Alu at one point looked like a good bet to carve out a super utility role with the big club, but he posted just a .571 OPS in the majors last season and had an even-worse .537 OPS this year at Triple-A Rochester. The 27-year-old could still draw some interest via trade or waivers from a club looking to add versatility.
-
Tyler Heineman BOS C
Red Sox's Tyler Heineman: Out with strained hamstring
16m agoThe Red Sox placed Heineman on the 10-day injured list Monday, retroactive to April 22, with a right hamstring strain.
Heineman evidently must have suffered the injury during Sunday's game against the Pirates. He'll be eligible to return in early May but isn't a given to be back on the big-league roster once he's healthy, as the Red Sox might send him to Triple-A Worcester instead.
-
Tyler O'Neill BOS RF
Red Sox's Tyler O'Neill: Reinstated, in lineup Tuesday
17m agoThe Red Sox reinstated O'Neill (concussion) from the 7-day injured list, and he's batting third as the designated hitter Tuesday against the Guardians, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.
The veteran outfielder will end up missing only the 7-day minumum after he suffered a concussion in a collision with Rafael Devers (knee) last week. O'Neill has been one of the best hitters in baseball early in 2024 with seven homers and a 1.209 OPS in 61 plate appearances.
-
Terry Rozier MIA SG
Heat's Terry Rozier: Won't suit up Wednesday
18m agoRozier (neck) has been ruled out for Wednesday's Game 2 against the Celtics, Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald reports.
Rozier will now miss his eighth straight game, and it is unclear whether the team will look to rush him back for the remainder of the series without Jimmy Butler (knee). The 30-year-old is considered week-to-week and against the Celtics, so it would not come as a surprise for Rozier to miss the entirety of the series. With Rozier out, Delon Wright, Duncan Robinson and Patty Mills are all likely candidates to see an uptick in playing time.
-
Kawhi Leonard LAC SF
Clippers' Kawhi Leonard: Present at shootaround
1h agoLeonard (knee) is officially listed as questionable but was present for the Clippers' morning shootaround before Tuesday's Game 2 against the Mavericks, Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN.com
Leonard was ruled out for Sunday's Game 1 win, his ninth consecutive absence, but has a chance to return Tuesday. The Clippers will likely decide the veteran's availability closer to the 10 p.m. ET tipoff after seeing how he fares in pregame warmups. If Leonard is ruled out again, expect P.J. Tucker and Amir Coffey to pick up extra minutes.
-
Michael Porter Jr. DEN SF
Nuggets' Michael Porter: Goes for 22 points in Game 2
4h agoPorter totaled 22 points (8-13 FG, 6-10 3Pt), nine rebounds, one assist and two steals in 38 minutes during Monday's 101-99 victory over the Lakers in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.
Porter sniffed a double-double for the second consecutive game after delivering a 19-point, eight-rebound effort in Game 1 on Saturday, and the forward continues to impact both ends of the court for Denver. Even though he doesn't get the same attention as Nikola Jokic or Jamal Murray, Porter is a key piece in the Nuggets' offensive scheme, and he's averaging 16.2 points with 7.3 rebounds per game in April, including regular-season contests.
-
Nikola Jokic DEN C
Nuggets' Nikola Jokic: Posts triple-double in Game 2 win
4h agoJokic closed Monday's 101-99 win over the Lakers in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals with 27 points (9-16 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 7-7 FT), 20 rebounds, 10 assists and two steals across 41 minutes.
Jamal Murray might have grabbed most of the headlines after draining a buzzer-beating, game-winning shot to lift Denver to victory, but Jokic's contributions can't be overlooked, as the MVP favorite posted a triple-double while dealing with the menace of Anthony Davis on both ends of the court. Jokic extended an impressive run that has seen him record a double-double or a triple-double in each of his last 16 games, a span in which he's averaging 28.3 points, 13.4 rebounds and 8.4 assists per game.
-
Jamal Murray DEN PG
Nuggets' Jamal Murray: Sinks game-winning shot Monday
4h agoMurray ended Monday's 101-99 victory over the Lakers in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals with 20 points (9-24 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, five assists and two blocks across 39 minutes.
Even though Nikola Jokic stole the show with a triple-double, it was Murray who ended up being the hero for the Nuggets, as his buzzer-beating fadeaway gave Denver a massive win despite the team trailing by as many as 20 points at one point in the third quarter. Murray has scored at least 20 points in each of his last six appearances dating back to the regular season, and the star floor general should handle a prominent role in Game 3 on Thursday as the series shifts to Los Angeles.
-
Anthony Davis LAL C
Lakers' Anthony Davis: Leads Lakers in Game 2 defeat
4h agoDavis ended Monday's 101-99 loss to the Nuggets in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals with 32 points (14-19 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 4-4 FT), 11 rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal over 39 minutes.
Davis has led the Lakers in scoring in each of the first two games of the series, but despite producing back-to-back 30-plus point efforts in the matchup against Nikola Jokic, the Lakers have fallen short of victory both times. Davis will likely land on the injury report ahead of Game 3, but given the situation and the workload he's handled in the first two games of the series, the star big man shouldn't have problems being active for Game 3 on Thursday.
-
Chris Wagner COL RW
Avalanche's Chris Wagner: Hits waivers
42m agoWagner was placed on waivers Tuesday, per CapFriendly.
Wagner will probably remain with the Avalanche for Tuesday's Game 2 matchup versus Winnipeg. He will likely serve as a healthy scratch for a second straight outing. Wagner had one goal, one assist, 16 shots on net and 30 hits in 13 NHL contests during the 2023-24 regular season.
-
Igor Shesterkin NYR G
Rangers' Igor Shesterkin: Slated to start Game 2
42m agoShesterkin is expected to guard the crease for Tuesday's Game 2 home matchup with Washington, Vince Z. Mercogliano of USA Today reports.
Shesterkin is riding a three-game winning streak during which he posted a 0.98 GAA, .963 save percentage and one shutout. While Jonathan Quick has been a capable backup this year, securing 18 wins in 27 appearances, the 28-year-old Shesterkin should remain firmly cemented in the starting role throughout the postseason.
-
Nicolas Hague LV D
Golden Knights' Nicolas Hague: Sustains undisclosed injury
1h agoHague -- who missed the last eight minutes of Game 1 versus the Stars on Monday -- will be reevaluated prior to Game 2 on Wednesday, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports.
While Hague's potential absence is unlikely to impact the Golden Knights' offensive game, he's pointless in 20 straight matches, he does add a level of physicality with 60 hits over that stretch. If Hague can't play Wednesday, coach Bruce Cassidy will have the choice between Alec Martinez or Ben Hutton for the third pairing.
-
Casey DeSmith VAN G
Canucks' Casey DeSmith: Tending twine in Game 2
1h agoDeSmith will patrol the home crease Tuesday in Game 2 against Nashville, according to Brendan Batchelor of Sportsnet 650.
DeSmith will get the nod after Thatcher Demko was injured following Sunday's series-opening victory over the Predators. DeSmith filled in admirably as the Canucks' No. 1 netminder during the regular season when Demko was out due to a knee injury. The 32-year-old DeSmith posted a 12-9-6 record with a 2.89 GAA and an .895 save percentage in 29 appearances. He also stopped 26 shots in a 5-2 win over Nashville on Dec. 19.
-
Sergei Bobrovsky FLA G
Panthers' Sergei Bobrovsky: Tending twine Tuesday
1h agoBobrovsky will defend the home cage against the Lightning in Game 2 on Tuesday.
Bobrovsky faced just 19 shots in Game 1, stopping 17 of them on the way to an .895 save percentage. Despite posting a sub-900 save percentage, the 35-year-old Russian still managed to secure an important victory for the Cats -- extending his winning streak to three games. Barring an injury, Bobrovsky should be between the crease for every game in the playoffs.
-
Thatcher Demko VAN G
Canucks' Thatcher Demko: Out Tuesday, considered day-to-day
1h agoDemko is considered day-to-day with an undisclosed injury and won't play in Tuesday's Game 2 versus the Predators, Canucks rinkside reporter Kate Pettersen reports.
Demko was solid in Sunday's Game 1, stopping 20 of 22 shots en route to a 4-2 win over Nashville. The good news is Demko's undisclosed injury isn't related to the knee issue that kept him out from March 13 to April 13. The bad news is the Canucks will be without their No. 1 netminder for at least one playoff game and potentially more. Casey DeSmith will take over for Vancouver between the pipes until Demko is ready to return.
