11m agoThe Browns selected Hall in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 54th overall.
Hall is a bit raw and might need some development time since he doesn't turn 21 until June, but the Ohio State product is super toolsy and should turn out better than at least a couple of the defensive tackles drafted ahead of him. Hall (6-foot-3, 299 pounds) posted a blistering 4.75-second 40-yard dash at Ohio State's pro day, and he added more evidence of his elite athleticism with a 33-inch vertical jump. Hall will likely get his first look as a pass-rushing specialist before auditioning for a starting role down the road.

15m agoThe Dolphins selected Paul in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 55th overall.
Miami's offensive line graded as mediocre at best in 2023 and needed an upgrade via the draft. Paul, despite playing for five years at Houston, is still rounding into his final form. He has the attributes that front offices covet, checking in at 6-foot-8, 331 pounds with 36-inch arms and profiling as a fluid athlete. He exclusively played left tackle in college, but with Terron Armstead holding down that side, Paul will compete with Austin Jackson for the right tackle job in all likelihood.

20m agoThe Colts selected Mitchell in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 52nd overall.
Mitchell (6-foot-2, 205 pounds) was almost universally expected to go much earlier than this, as the one-timeTexas and Georgia standout torched the combine (4.34-second 40-yard dash, 136-inch broad jump) following a productive end to his Longhorns career (55 catches for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns on 92 targets in 2023). Mitchell drew fewer targets at Texas than first-round pick and fellow wideout Xavier Worthy, and that might be evidence of a potential target cap with Mitchell in the NFL as well. However, at the very least, he should prove an explosive WR2 type even if he never turns into a 100-catch player. He'll need to compete with past second-round pick Alec Pierce and 2023 third-round pick Josh Downs for snaps before any such breakout occurs, though.

Ben Sinnott 2005 TECommanders' Ben Sinnott: Goes to Washington
21m agoThe Commanders selected Sinnott in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 53rd overall.
Even with the Zach Ertz addition, tight end was a glaring need in Washington. Sinnott is the second tight end off the board, and rightfully so. He was one of the top producers at his position in his final year at Kansas State with 49 catches for 676 yards and six touchdowns on 76 targets. In fact, that made him the Wildcats' leading receiver by nearly 100 yards. The production put him on the draft radar, but his combine performance made him a legit second-round prospect. Sinnott runs a 4.68 40 with top percentile scores in his jumps and in the cone drill. That blend of production and athleticism will get him on the field in the nation's capital sooner rather than later, especially with only Ertz standing in his way.

Mike Sainristil 2005 CBCommanders' Mike Sainristil: Second-round pick for Washington
28m agoThe Commanders selected Sainristil in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 50th overall.
Sainristil might be limited to the slot at just 5-foot-10, 182 pounds, but the Michigan standout should excel there at least. He was a standout presence in a suffocating Wolverines defense that arguably carried Michigan to its National Title victory in 2023, and his workout numbers indicate the ability to cover ground effectively (4.47-second 40-yard dash, 40-inch vertical, 131-inch broad jump). Sainristil should immediately take over the slot position for Washington and might even have an outside chance of winning a starting role.

Zach Frazier 2005 IOLSteelers' Zach Frazier: Onward to the Steel City
32m agoThe Steelers selected Frazier in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 51st overall.
Pittsburgh continues to build up the offensive line in this draft, following up first-rounder Troy Fautanu with Frazier. The West Virginia product was a state champion wrestler in high school, which is often a quality trait that transfers over to playing center. Frazier has the anchor to hold up against stout defenders at 313 pounds with bear-paw hands (10.88 inches) to clutch and redirect. Pittsburgh is adding physicality and talent to its offensive line thus far.

Alex Cobb SF SPGiants' Alex Cobb: Pauses throwing program
2h agoCobb (hip/elbow/shoulder) has been held back from throwing for the last few days due to soreness in his right shoulder, and he is set to see a team doctor Friday night, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.comreports.
Cobb was shifted to the 60-day IL on April 20 to give him more time to recover from his multiple ailments. He underwent left hip surgery in the offseason and was progressing through his rehab assignment following spring training, but he has suffered another setback with right shoulder soreness this time. Cobb's visit with the team doctor Friday night should give him and the Giants a better idea of the next steps forward in his rehab schedule.

2h agoYankees manager Aaron Boone said Friday that Dominguez (elbow) has increased his throwing distance to 135 feet, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Dominguez continues to progress in his recovery from Tommy John surgery from last September, and Boone noted that the 21-year-old is "a few weeks" away from playing in a minor-league rehab game. Dominguez appeared in eight games with the Yankees last season, going 8-for-31 with four home runs and seven RBI over that span.

Kyle Nicolas PIT RPPirates' Kyle Nicolas: Recalled by Pittsburgh
3h agoThe Pirates recalled Nicolas from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.
Nicolas ended the 2023 season as part of the Pirates' bullpen. He struggled in his four outings, giving up seven runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out seven over 5.1 frames. Nicolas has looked better in Triple-A this season, posting a 0.84 ERA and 2.06 WHIP over 10.2 innings, and he'll get another shot in Pittsburgh's bullpen. The move corresponds with Ryder Ryan being optioned by the Pirates to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.

3h agoEstrada (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Pirates, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Estrada went 0-for-2 in Wednesday's game against the Mets before being pulled due to left hamstring tightness. The Giants had their off day Thursday, but the 28-year-old will sit out for at least one more game while managing his injury. Tyler Fitzgerald will start at second base Friday and bat eighth against Pirates right-hander Quinn Priester.

9m agoMiddleton recorded 42 points (16-29 FG, 4-9 3Pt, 6-6 FT), 10 rebounds and five assists over 41 minutes in Friday's 121-118 overtime loss to Indiana in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.
Middleton did all he could to help lead Milwaukee to an overtime victory, including hitting the game-tying shot at the end of regulation to send the game to overtime and also tying the game late in overtime, but his 40-point double-double was spoiled in a losing effort. Middleton led all players in Friday's contest in scoring while ending as one of two Bucks with 10 or more rebounds to go along with a handful of assists in a well-rounded outing. If Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) remains out in Game 4, look for Middleton to continue to provide a lift to Milwaukee offensively in the quarterfinals series.

9m agoLillard posted 28 points (6-20 FG, 4-12 3Pt, 12-12 FT), eight assists, three steals and one rebound over 45 minutes in Friday's 121-118 overtime loss to Indiana in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.
Despite leaving Friday's game briefly with a knee injury, Lillard finished the Game 3 contest while leading all Bucks players in assists and ending two points shy of the 30-point mark to provide a boost offensively in a losing effort. Lillard, who was perfect from the free-throw line to go along with a team-high-tying mark from three, has posted at least 28 points in all three games of the quarterfinals. It will be worth monitoring Lillard's status ahead of Game 4 and if he has an issues with his left knee that limits his availability.

Portis dominated the boards in Friday's contest, leading all players in rebounds while finishing as one of two Bucks with a double-double in a losing effort in overtime. Portis has stepped in nicely while Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) continuing to miss time, recording a double-double in all three games in the quarterfinals thus far. Portis will continue to remain in the starting lineup until Antetokounmpo is able to return, but will become a key player off of Milwaukee's bench if the two-time MVP does come back for Game 4 or at some point in the series against Indiana.

20m agoDoncic briefly left Friday's Game 3 versus the Clippers with 3:01 remaining in the first quarter with an apparent right knee issue, but returned with 12 seconds to play in the quarter, Justin Russo of the 'Clip & Roll' podcast reports.
Doncic had a significant limp when he checked out of the game and went to the back. He put a brace on his right knee when he came back to the bench, but quickly removed it before checking back into the game.

22m agoHaliburton tallied 18 points (8-22 FG, 1-12 3Pt, 1-1 FT), 16 assists, 10 rebounds and one block over 46 minutes in Friday's 121-118 overtime win over Milwaukee in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.
Haliburton did a little bit of everything for Indiana in an overtime victory to break a series tie, including hitting the game-winning shot with 1.6 seconds remaining to put a cap on an impressive triple-double performance. Despite struggling from three, Haliburton led all players in Friday's contest in assists while leading the Pacers in rebounds and ending two points shy of the 20-point mark. Haliburton recorded his first triple-double of the postseason so far, tallying at least 10 points and 10 dimes in two games in the quarterfinals.

Van Riemsdyk took a huge hit against the boards that resulted in an interference penalty by Matt Rempe. Van Riemsdyk immediately left the ice and returned to the locker room. He logged 3:27 of ice time prior to getting injured. An update on his status should be available before Game 4 on Sunday.

Suzuki has 14 goals and 30 points in 51 outings with Springfield in 2023-24. Although he'll join the Hurricanes for the time being, the 22-year-old is not expected to play for Carolina during the postseason.

Hague had two goals, 12 points, 43 PIM, 154 hits and 111 blocks in 73 regular-season appearances in 2023-24. He also missed Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Stars due to the injury. Alec Martinez is likely to remain in the lineup for Game 3 due to Hague's continued absence.

7h agoTalbot is expected to start at home against Edmonton in Game 3 on Friday, per Dennis Bernstein of The Fourth Period.
Talbot has struggled against the Oilers, allowing 10 goals on 75 shots (.867 save percentage) over two playoff contests. Edmonton ranked fourth offensively with 3.56 goals per game in the regular season, so the Oilers are likely to continue to give the veteran goaltender trouble, especially because Talbot's been floundering for a while now. He has a 2.92 GAA and an .897 save percentage over his past 17 outings dating back to March 7.
