Jamin Davis WAS LB
Commanders' Jamin Davis: Not getting Year 5 option
3h agoThe Commanders are declining the fifth-year option on Davis' (shoulder) rookie contract, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
Washington took Davis with the 19th pick in the 2021 Draft, and while he's started 36 of 45 games through three seasons, his elite athleticism (4.47 40, 42-inch vertical) hasn't translated to elite performance. The 25-year-old likely will be a starter again in 2024 under new coach Dan Quinn, but it won't come as any surprise if this ends up being Davis' final year in Washington. He had season-ending shoulder surgery in December, potentially impacting his participation in spring practices.

Ezekiel Elliott NE RB
Ezekiel Elliott: Meeting with Dallas
18h agoElliott's agent will meet with the Cowboys in Dallas on Wednesday, Josina Anderson of CBS Sports reports.
The two sides have been connected throughout the offseason, as Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reported last month that Elliott and the Cowboys had mutual interest in a reunion. The Cowboys lost Tony Pollard to the Titans in free agency and only added end-of-roster types Royce Freeman and Snoop Conner to a running back room that includes Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn and Malik Davis. Elliott played in all 17 games for the Patriots last season, carrying 184 times for 642 yards and three touchdowns while adding a 51-313-2 receiving line on 65 targets.

Trey Hendrickson CIN DE
Bengals' Trey Hendrickson: Seeking trade
20h agoHendrickson recently requested to be traded from Cincinnati, a league source tells Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Per Schefter, Hendrickson -- who is under contract for $15 million in 2024 and is on the books through 2025 -- is looking for more long-term security than the Bengals have been willing to offer to this point. The 29-year-old is coming of a 2023 campaign in which he recorded 43 tackles and made a major impact as a pass rusher by racking up a career-high 17.5 sacks over 17 games.
-
Micah Parsons DAL LB
Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Contract option picked up
21h agoThe Cowboys exercised the fifth-year team option on Parsons' rookie contract Wednesday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Per Gehlken, the star edge rusher will earn $21.32 million in 2025, but that salary may only serve as a placeholder before Parsons and the Cowboys are able to work out what's expected to be a lavish long-term deal. The 24-year-old is coming off another productive effort with the Cowboys in 2023, as he racked up 64 tackles and a career-high 14 sacks in 17 regular-season outings.

James Hurst NO OG
James Hurst: Announces retirement
22h agoHurst announced his retirement from the NFL after 10 seasons on Wednesday, Katherine Teller of ESPN.com reports.
Hurst started 51 games between guard and tackle for the Saints since joining the team as a free agent after the 2020 season. Prior to his stint with the Saints, Hurst began his career with the Ravens in 2014 after going undrafted out of North Carolina. His retirement comes just one day prior to the start of the 2024 NFL Draft and leaves the Saints with a glaring need at left guard, though the team did reportedly have advanced warning of Hurst's decision.

Penei Sewell DET OT
Lions' Penei Sewell: Inks massive extension
23h agoSewell and the Lions agreed to terms Wednesday on a four-year, $112 million contract extension, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Sewell's deal, which reportedly includes $85 million guaranteed, makes him the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL. The 23-year-old right tackle has played at a high level since joining Detroit as the No. 7 overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, but he took a step forward in 2023 while earning first-team All-Pro honors. In addition to Sewell, the Lions extended top wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown to a four-year extension Wednesday, one day in advance of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Luke Raley SEA RF
Mariners' Luke Raley: Back on bench Thursday
2m agoRaley is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rangers.
Raley had started each of the past three games, going 3-for-12 during that stretch to lift his season-long batting average to a porous .186. Though the Mariners have an opening in the outfield with Dominic Canzone (shoulder) on the injured list, Raley may play second fiddle to Jonatan Clase while he continues to languish at the plate.
-
Dylan Moore SEA LF
Mariners' Dylan Moore: Likely to fill in for Crawford
8m agoMoore will start at shortstop and bat sixth in Thursday's game against the Rangers.
He'll man shortstop for the second game in a row and is expected to serve as the main option at the position after J.P. Crawford (oblique) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday, according to Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM. Moore has a pair of 20-steal seasons on his resume and already has five stolen bases in just 53 plate appearances so far in 2024, so his speed could make him an appealing short-term option in deeper mixed leagues now that he's on track to get consistent playing time.
-
Gregory Santos SEA RP
Mariners' Gregory Santos: Shifts to 60-day IL
11m agoThe Mariners transferred Santos (lat) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Thursday.
The transaction was made in order to free up a spot on the 40-man roster for infielder Leonardo Rivas, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Tacoma. Santos is in the midst of a throwing program as he works his way back from a right lat strain, but the Mariners are proceeding conservatively with him. He won't be eligible to make his season debut until late May.
-
Framber Valdez HOU SP
Astros' Framber Valdez: Starting Sunday
13m agoValdez (elbow) will start Sunday's game against the Rockies, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Valdez has been on the IL since April 9 due to inflammation in his left elbow. He built up to 40 pitches in his last bullpen session Wednesday, so his first start back from the injured list will likely be an abbreviated one, but his return will still give Houston's a much-needed boost following the loss of Cristian Javier (neck). Valdez surrendered three earned runs and struck out 10 batters over 12.1 innings across his first two starts before getting injured.
-
Trey Lipscomb WAS 3B
Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Sitting Thursday
23m agoLipscomb isn't in the Nationals' lineup for Thursday's game against the Dodgers, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
Lipscomb will take a seat after going 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored during Wednesday's loss. Joey Meneses will start at first base in his absence, moving Jesse Winker into the DH spot while Eddie Rosario starts in left field.
-
Matt Mervis CHC DH
Cubs' Matt Mervis: Not starting Thursday
24m agoMervis is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Astros.
Following his promotion from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, Mervis served as the Cubs' designated hitter in both of the ensuing two games, going 0-for-6 with three strikeouts between those contests. Though he'll retreat to the bench Thursday, the lefty-hitting Mervis will likely see the bulk of the starts at DH against right-handed pitching until the Cubs get Seiya Suzuki (oblique) from the 10-day injured list.
-
Luke Kornet BOS C
Celtics' Luke Kornet: Gets in work Thursday
9m agoCoach Joe Mazzule said Thursday that Kornet (calf) is feeling good and more will be known about his injury Friday depending on how he responds to work being done on the court, Jay King of The Athletic reports.
Kornet has already missed the first two games of Boston's first-round series against Miami with a calf injury. While Kornet could return to action if the series is drawn out, the Celtics appear to be using Al Horford as their sole bench big.
-
Olivier-Maxence Prosper DAL SF
Mavericks' Olivier-Maxence Prosper: Won't play Friday
14m agoProsper is out for Friday's Game 3 against the Clippers due to an ankle sprain he suffered in Thursday's practice, Mike Curtis of The Detroit News reports.
Prosper's absence shouldn't significantly affect Dallas' playoff rotation. The rookie forward's next chance to suit up is Game 4 on Sunday.
-
Daniel Gafford DAL C
Mavericks' Daniel Gafford: Misses practice, iffy for Friday
20m agoGafford didn't participate in Thursday's practice and is considered questionable for Friday's Game 3 versus the Clippers due to a lower back injury, Grant Afseth of SI.com reports.
Gafford is in danger of missing Friday's contest after a lower back injury limited him to nine minutes of action in Game 2. If Gafford is officially ruled out, Dereck Lively and Maxi Kleber are candidates to receive increased playing time.
-
Tim Hardaway Jr. DAL SG
Mavericks' Tim Hardaway: Out for Game 3
24m agoHardaway (ankle) won't play in Friday's Game 3 against the Clippers and will be re-evaluated in a couple of days, Mike Curtis of The Detroit News reports.
Hardaway will miss Friday's contest after leaving Game 2 early with a right ankle sprain. Derrick Jones, Dante Exum and Josh Green could receive extended minutes in his absence. Hardaway's next chance to suit up is Game 4 on Sunday.
-
Jalen Suggs ORL SG
Magic's Jalen Suggs: Won't face limitations in Game 3
3h agoSuggs won't face a minutes limit during Thursday's Game 3 against the Cavaliers, Kendra Andrews of ESPN.com reports.
Suggs suffered a left knee sprain during Monday's Game 2 loss, but he practiced fully Wednesday and did so again Thursday morning. He's averaged 11.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 31.0 minutes per game over the first two matchups in the series.
-
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander OKC SG
Thunder's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: Goes for 33 points in Game 2 win
4h agoGilgeous-Alexander had 33 points (13-19 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT), three rebounds, five assists and two steals across 35 minutes during Wednesday's 124-92 victory over the Pelicans in Game 2 of the Western Conference first round.
The Thunder secured a statement win in Game 2 of the series, and Gilgeous-Alexander was dominant en route to his first 30-point effort since April 9, when he exploded for 40 points in a win over the Kings. Gilgeous-Alexander should lead the Thunder in Game 3 on Saturday, and he's having an excellent series so far, shooting 55.8 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from deep in the first two games against New Orleans.
-
Sergei Bobrovsky FLA G
Panthers' Sergei Bobrovsky: Starting in Game 3
1h agoBobrovsky will guard the road crease Thursday against Tampa Bay for Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals, per Alex Baumgartner.
Bobrovsky was solid in Game 2 on Tuesday, stopping 21 of 23 shots en route to a 3-2 win. The 35-year-old has played 72 career playoff games, recording a .905 save percentage and 31 total wins. The Lightning will undoubtedly be desperate to avoid falling in to a 3-0 series hole, so they'll likely come out firing Thursday.
-
Ryan Lomberg FLA LW
Panthers' Ryan Lomberg: Not playing Thursday
1h agoLomberg (illness) will not play in Thursday's Game 3 versus Tampa Bay, according to Colby Guy of Florida Hockey Now.
Lomberg accompanied the Panthers to Tampa Bay, but he will be replaced by Kyle Okposo on the fourth line for Game 3. Lomberg had five goals, two assists, 80 PIM and 179 hits in 75 games during the regular season.
-
Filip Chytil NYR C
Rangers' Filip Chytil: Traveling with team
1h agoChytil (head) will travel to Washington with the team in hopes of playing Friday in Game 3, per Peter Baugh of The Athletic.
Chytil only played in 10 games with the big club during the regular season, recording six assists and 22 shots on goal. The 24-year-old has played in 30 career playoff games, logging eight goals and five assists. Another update on his status should surface prior to puck drop versus the Capitals on Friday.
-
Sonny Milano WAS LW
Capitals' Sonny Milano: In doubt Friday
1h agoMilano (undisclosed) missed Thursday's morning skate, raising doubts about his availability versus the Rangers for Game 3 on Friday, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports.
Milano is pointless in the postseason through two games while chipping in just one shot and a minus-2 rating over that span. Despite playing in only 49 regular-season contests, the 27-year-old winger still set a new personal best with 15 goals, though he missed the 30-point threshold for the first time in the last three years.
-
Juuso Parssinen NSH C
Predators' Juuso Parssinen: Recalled from the AHL
1h agoParssinen was called up from AHL Milwaukee on Thursday, per Robby Stanley of NHL.com.
Parssinen played in 44 regular-season games for Nashville this year, recording eight goals and four assists to go along with 54 shots on goal. The 23-year-old was spotted at morning skate Thursday, so it looks like he could get into the lineup for Friday's Game 3 versus Vancouver. If he does play, expect Lomberg to slide into a bottom-six role.
-
Matt Martin NYI LW
Islanders' Matt Martin: Game-time call against Canes
2h agoMartin will be a game-time decision versus Carolina for Game 3 on Thursday due to an undisclosed injury, Arthur Staple of The Athletic reports.
Martin averaged just 10:12 of ice time through the first two games of the series before picking up his undisclosed injury. If the veteran winger misses time, it's expected Ruslan Iskhakov will get a look on the fourth line, though both Oliver Wahlstrom and Simon Holmstrom could be in contention for a lineup spot as well.
