Golf Rankings for Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial
Zach Johnson [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #69
In addition to pair of second-place results in his last three tournaments of 2012, Johnson owns three straight top-10s at Colonial -- including a win in 2010 and a solo fourth last year. ZJ has not missed a cut all year while offering the perfect blend of strong recent performance and excellent course history to entrust him as your No. 1 option this week. Johnson ranks 16th in scoring average and 14th in All-Around Ranking.
Matt Kuchar [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #15
In five career starts at Colonial, Kuchar has made every cut with one top-10 and a T16 a year ago. After a slow start to the season, Kuchar has registered half a dozen top-15s, highlighted by a win at THE PLAYERS, in his last seven starts. Kuchar ranks second in scoring average, 16th in birdie average and 15th in All-Around Ranking.
Jason Dufner [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #34
Over his last three starts, Dufner has won at TPC Louisiana and last week at TPC Four Seasons. He now ranks first in the FedExCup standings and sits 12th in both birdie average and scoring average. Dufner is also fourth in both total driving and All-Around Ranking. While Dufner missed the cut at Colonial last year, he’s clearly a house of fire right now.
Rickie Fowler [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #9
Since making an adjustment to his putting game, Fowler has notched three straight top-10s with a win at Quail Hollow and a share of second at THE PLAYERS. Fowler finished T16 at Colonial last year after a T38 in his first career start in 2010. He ranks fifth in total driving and 19th in All-Around Ranking.
Bo Van Pelt [Yahoo Class C]
Since February, Van Pelt has scored five top-10s in eight stroke play events. He’s been equally impressive at Colonial with a solo third last year and a T10 in 2010. BVP ranks second in strokes gained – putting, eighth in birdie average and sixth in both total driving and All-Around Ranking.
David Toms [Yahoo Class C]
Since 2000, Toms has been extremely consistent at Colonial with 10 top-30 finishes and four top-fives capped off by a win last year. While he’s been erratic for much of this season (and missed some time due to injury), Toms has finished T15 and T15 in his last two starts. Despite being the defending champ, Toms could present a great value given his rocky 2012 campaign.
Jim Furyk [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #79
Since missing the cut in The Honda Classic, Furyk has awoken with half a dozen consecutive finishes inside the top 30 with four results of 11th or better. Over the last four years at Colonial, Furyk has missed two cuts with one top-10. Furyk ranks sixth in scoring average and is playing well enough to believe he’ll have another solid result this week.
Kevin Na [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #64
Following an impressive run of three top-fives and five top-12s in seven stroke play events, Na withdrew from the Valero Texas Open with an injury and missed the cut at Quail Hollow. Na ended the second and third rounds of THE PLAYERS with a share of the lead, but slid to finish T7. Since 2007, Na has two top-10s in five starts at Colonial with the most recent coming in 2009.
Hunter Mahan [Yahoo Class C]
After a sketchy history at Colonial, Mahan came through with a T10 finish last year. At THE PLAYERS, Mahan missed his first cut of the season but also won twice this season, one in match play. Mahan ranks fifth in greens in regulation percentage and seventh in driving accuracy percentage.
Bill Haas [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #39
After missing two straight cuts, Haas rebounded with a T25 at THE PLAYERS. He’ll look to keep things going at Colonial where he finished a career-best T8 last year after a T13 in 2010. Last year’s FedExCup champ last top-20 came back in February with a win at Riviera.
Kevin Stadler [Yahoo Class C]
Over his last 10 starts of the season, Stadler has eight finishes of 26th or better with three top-10s. Stadler finished a career-best solo seventh at Colonial last year. While not a statistical standout, Stadler is playing solid golf and last year's performance is extremely encouraging.
Sergio Garcia [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #5
Back in 2001, Garcia won at Colonial in his first career start at the site. From 2002-05, he missed three cuts before skipping this event every season until 2011 where Sergio finished T16. Garcia is coming off a T5 at the Volvo World Match Play Championship, a European Tour event, his first top-10 in any worldwide event since February.
