Golf Rankings for the Memorial Tournament
Luke Donald [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #34
In three starts at the Memorial since 2008, Donald has finished inside the top 15 on each occasion with a pair of top-10 finishes. Coming off a win at the BMW PGA Championship, a European Tour event, Donald is back on top of the Official World Golf Rankings for the fourth time. The Englishman was last seen stateside with a solo sixth in THE PLAYERS Championship and should be deployed in all fantasy formats.
Phil Mickelson [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #16
Over the last two years, Mickelson has finished T13 and T5 at the Memorial. Lefty has finished 26th or better in six straight starts with a top-10 in three of the last five. Phil currently ranks sixth in birdie average, eighth in scoring average and ninth in All-Around Ranking.
Rory McIlroy [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #1
Are the wheels coming off the former OWGR No. 1? After collecting one top-five after another since last September, McIlroy has missed two straight cuts in worldwide events. The Northern Irishman finished solo fifth at the Memorial last year after a T10 in his 2010 debut. McIlroy has been nearly bulletproof until these recent hiccups, but history in this event is an encouraging sign he’ll get things back on track this week.
Bubba Watson [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #4
In six starts at the Memorial, Watson has never recorded a top-20 finish, but is playing so well right now it may not better. He’s registered three top-fives in his last four events, winning the Masters and finishing runner-up at Doral. Watson ranks first in driving distance and greens in regulation percentage. He’s also second in birdie average, ninth in scoring average and eighth in All-Around Ranking.
Justin Rose [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #5
In the last four events at the Memorial, Rose has been an all-or-nothing player at the site. He earned a share of second in 2008 and won the event in 2010, but missed the cut in the other two. Rose has made all his cuts this season with a win at Doral before collecting three top-15 finishes in his last four.
Rickie Fowler [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #10
After scoring a runner-up performance in his first career start at the Memorial in 2010, Fowler took a step back with a T22 last year. However, he’s been on fire lately stringing together four straight top-10 finishes with three consecutive top-fives, highlighted by a win at Quail Hollow and a share of second at THE PLAYERS. Fowler is up to fifth in total driving and 18th in All-Around Ranking.
Steve Stricker [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #46
It took 33 months, but Stricker finally missed a cut after making 49 in a row. Sounds like a good time to head back to Memorial, an event he won a year ago. Stricker has already won once this season and has totaled three top-10s in seven starts.
Jim Furyk [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #7
Over his last nine stroke play events, Furyk owns six finishes of 11th or better and seven inside the top 30. While he missed the cut at the Memorial last year, Furyk finished T10 at the site in 2010 after a runner-up performance the year before. He ranks third in scoring average and is coming off a solo fourth at Colonial.
Bo Van Pelt [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #106
Since withdrawing from Quail Hollow with a tweaked wrist, Van Pelt has answered back with a T7 at THE PLAYERS and a T19 at Colonial, blowing a top-five finish in the final round. BVP has been a consistent performer at the Memorial with a T13 last year following a T3 in 2010. He ranks sixth in total driving and second in All-Around Ranking.
Tiger Woods [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #43
Since 1999, Woods has won the Memorial four times, most recently in 2009, with a total of seven top-fives in those 10 starts while never finishing worse than 22nd. However, Tiger has remained an enigma with a share of second in The Honda Classic and crushing the field at Bay Hill, he has struggled in each of his last three events. Woods ranks fifth in scoring average, second in total driving and sixth in All-Around Ranking, but his recent slide is a cause of great concern.
Hunter Mahan [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #23
In the last four starts at the Memorial, Mahan has top-15s and two missed cuts. Since winning at Redstone and taking home a T12 at the Masters, he’s struggled over his last three events finishing no better than 37th and missing his first cut of the year. Mahan ranks 10th in total driving and has a good chance to get his season turned back around this week.
Webb Simpson [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #42
Following a T13 at TPC Louisiana, Simpson finished solo fourth at Quail Hollow prior to missing the cut at THE PLAYERS. He scored a T7 last year at the Memorial after two lackluster results at the site. While not featuring the type of consistency that nearly won the FedExCup in 2011, Simpson appeared to be regaining a similar form until hitting the aforementioned bump.
