Golf Rankings for FedEx St. Jude Classic
Zach Johnson [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #37
Over his last four starts of 2012, Johnson owns a pair of runner-up performances and is coming off a victory at Colonial. ZJ has competed in this event for the last two seasons, finishing T12 in 2010 and a T32 a year ago. Johnson currently ranks sixth in scoring average, seventh in strokes gained – putting and 10th in All-Around Ranking.
Rory McIlroy [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #2
In the last calendar year, McIlroy collected 13 top-fives in 23 worldwide events and had not missed a cut until doing so in each of his last three events. The phenom from Northern Ireland made his only start at Southwind in 2010 finishing T29. McIlroy appears to have hit the skids, but this fairly weak field could cure what’s ailing him.
Dustin Johnson [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #3
With a respectable T19 last week at the Memorial, Johnson made a successful return from a back injury that kept him sidelined since mid-March. DJ has never suited up at Southwind and is likely using the tournament as a tune-up for the U.S. Open. Johnson ranks eighth in driving distance, ninth in birdie average and 17th in All-Around Ranking.
Ryan Palmer [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #76
Over his last four events, Palmer has come through with a pair of top-fives and three top-10s. He’s now ninth in driving distance, 10th in strokes gained – putting and 16th in scoring average. Palmer has played Southwind four times in the last six years, missing three cuts with a T10 from 2006.
David Toms [Yahoo Class C]
Prior to missing the cut at Colonial, Toms finished T15 at Quail Hollow and T10 at THE PLAYERS. Toms has made 19 starts at Southwind, but missed the cut last year for the first time since 1994. He’s a two-time winner at the site with five finishes of third or better since 2003.
Robert Karlsson [Yahoo Class B]
In two trips to Southwind, Karlsson has finished in second place each time. In 13 worldwide starts this season, the Swede has five finishes inside the top 25 with four missed cuts. While Karlsson has failed to impress for much of 2012, his excellent performance at this track makes him worth the gamble.
Graeme McDowell [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #89
Following a T7 at Southwind in 2009, McDowell has not returned to the site until this week. After collecting three finishes inside the top 15 to begin the month of March, McDowell has slid with only one decent result in his last five stroke play events. While he finished second in the Volvo World Match Play Championship, McDowell missed the cut in both THE PLAYERS and BMW PGA Championship.
Brandt Snedeker [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #27 - Not Entered
A strained rib forced Snedeker to withdraw before the third round of play at the Memorial. He had missed his first cut of the season at THE PLAYERS, but had been fairly consistent for much of the season up until that point. Snedeker finished T15 at Southwind last year, his best result since a T5 back in 2007.
Spencer Levin [Yahoo Class C]
Last week at the Memorial, Levin entered the final round with the lead but shot a 3-over to finish with a share of fourth. He heads to Southwind, where he finished a career-best T15 last year and matched a Sunday-best round of 63. Levin ranked 11th on Tour last year and could be regaining some of that form now.
Matt Every [Yahoo Class C] - Not Entered
After a T8 at Harbour Town and a share of second at the Valero Texas Open, Every missed three straight cuts until a T6 last week at the Memorial. He obviously carries a lot of risk, but Every is capable of another big performance. When he makes it to the weekend, Every's scoring average in the final round is the fourth-best on Tour.
John Rollins [Yahoo Class C]
After missing three straight cuts, Rollins has notched five top-25s but missed the cut in his three other events. He finished T25 at Southwind last year and T15 in 2011. Rollins ranks second in total driving and 24th in All-Around Ranking.
Robert Garrigus [Yahoo Class B]
After finishing with a share of second at Southwind in 2011, Garrigus missed the cut last year. Over his last five starts of 2012, he’s registered three top-15s. Garrigus ranks third in driving distance and 11th in greens in regulation percentage.
