Tiger Woods [Yahoo Class C]
In his most recent start of the season Woods missed the cut at The Greenbrier Classic, one week after collecting his third win of 2012. Tiger has won The Open Championship three times, most recently in 2006. He played the British at Royal Lytham & St Anne's Golf Club twice, finishing T22 in 1996 and T25 in 2001. Woods ranks first in scoring average, fifth in total driving, 11th in greens in regulation percentage and 10th in All-Around ranking.
Lee Westwood [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #45
Following a T10 in the U.S. Open at the Olympic Club, Westwood finished a disappointing T40 at the Open de France, a European Tour event. In 15 worldwide starts this season, Westwood has registered two wins, seven top-fives and 10 finishes inside the top 20. Westwood missed the cut in the British Open a year ago, but finished as the runner-up in 2010 and T3 in 2009.
Rory McIlroy [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #2
After scoring numerous wins and top-fives dating back to last season, McIlroy came unglued. Until scoring a T10 a few weeks ago in the Irish Open, he had missed four cuts in a span of five worldwide starts. McIlroy finished T25 in the British Open last year and T3 in 2010.
Luke Donald [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #88
Prior to missing the cut at the U.S. Open, Donald notched two wins and six top-12 finishes in eight worldwide starts. In last week’s Scottish Open he finished T16. Donald missed the cut in the British Open last year, but finished T11 in 2010 and T5 in 2009.
Justin Rose [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #13
Rose is currently leading the European Tour’s Race to Dubai standings with one win and five top-10s in seven starts this season. He’s made 10 starts in the British Open with one top-five, three top-15s and a T30 at Royal Lytham & St Anne's from 2001.
Dustin Johnson [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #3
Since winning the FedEx St. Jude Classic last month, Johnson has gone without a top-30 over his last three starts. DJ has improved in each of his three career starts at the British Open with a T14 in 2010 followed by a share of second a year ago. Johnson currently ranks seventh in driving distance, 12th in scoring average and 19th in All-Around Ranking.
Sergio Garcia [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #15
In 14 worldwide starts this season, Garcia owns four top-fives and eight finishes of 16th or better while not missing a single cut. Since finishing T9 in the 2001 British Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes, Garcia has added seven finishes inside the top 15 and three top-fives in 10 Open starts.
Francesco Molinari [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #33
Since finishing T29 at the U.S. Open, Molinari has caught fire. He scored a T10 at the Irish Open prior to solo seconds at the Open de France and last week’s Scottish Open. Molinari ranks second in the European Tour’s Race to Dubai standings and ranks second in greens in regulation.
Padraig Harrington [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #116
In his last seven worldwide starts, Harrington finished 16th or better on six occasions. He has experience at Royal Lytham & St Annes with a T18 in the 1996 British Open and T37 in 2001. After winning the British in 2007 and again in 2008, Harrington has missed the cut each of the last two years.
Phil Mickelson [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #21
After missing the cut at The Greenbrier Classic, Mickelson was a late addition to the field at the Scottish Open where he finished with a respectable T16. He’s never won the British Open, but finished T2 last year, his first top-15 at the event since a solo third in 2004. Lefty finished T40 at Royal Lytham & St Annes in 1996 and T30 in 2001.
Zach Johnson [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #37
Over his last eight starts, Johnson has two runner-up performances and two wins, including last week’s John Deere Classic. ZJ ranks first in strokes gained – putting, seventh birdie average, seventh in scoring average and eighth in All-Around Ranking. Last year, he finished a career-best T16 in the British Open.
Rickie Fowler [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #14
Prior to two straight finishes outside of the top 40, Fowler scored three straight top-fives, including a win at the Wells Fargo Championship and a share of second at THE PLAYERS. Fowler has taken a month off to get ready for the British Open (where he finished T5 last year and T14 in 2010, his first start in the event). He ranks 14th in total driving and 12th in All-Around Ranking.
