Golf Rankings for Wyndham Championship
Carl Pettersson [Yahoo Class C]
Pettersson is coming off an impressive T3 in the PGA Championship and heads to Sedgefield, where he claimed victory in 2008. He struggled at the site the next two year, but posted a top-five finish a year ago. In all, Pettersson owns four podium finish this season and sits 16th in scoring average.
Jason Dufner [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #63
Since this tournament moved to Sedgefield Country Club in 2008, Dufner has missed two cuts and has finished no better than a T26. However, the Duf Man is currently in the midst of a career year with two wins, seven top-10s and 11 top-25s in 18 starts. Dufner is currently fifth in birdie average, fifth in scoring average, sixth in total driving and third in All-Around Ranking.
Webb Simpson [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #84
After winning the U.S. Open, Simpson continued to play great golf in the first three rounds of his next two pairs but took a step back on Sunday. Last week’s missed cut in the PGA Championship is understandable after taking a month off. The bar is set much higher at Sedgefield where Simpson is the defending champion following his T8 in 2010.
David Toms [Yahoo Class C]
Before finishing outside of the top 40 in the PGA Championship, Toms had collected four top-15s in his previous six starts, highlighted by a T4 at the U.S. Open. Toms has finished 24th or better the last three years at Sedgefield with a solo second in 2010.
Brandt Snedeker [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #27
In his two three starts, Snedeker has struggled finishing T50 at Bridgestone and missing the cut in last week’s PGA Championship. The limited field should benefit one of the elite putters on Tour who finished T5 at Sedgefield in 2009 and T8 in 2010. However, Snedeker did miss the cut at the site last year. Snedeker is a risky start, but the ceiling remains extremely high.
Charl Schwartzel [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #24
While Schwartzel hasn’t looked as sharp since earning a pair of top-fives in March, he’s one of the top international players around and must be considered a threat in his field. He’s a first timer at Sedgefield.
Tim Clark [Yahoo Class C]
It’s been a rocky road since returning from injury but Clark has finished T15 and T11 in his last two starts, including the PGA Championship. Clark finished T6 at Sedgefield in 2008, but has not competed at the site since.
Sergio Garcia [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #15
Since finishing solo third at Sedgefield in 2009, Garcia has not returned to the site until this week. After some pretty consistent play this season, he’s missed two of his last three cuts. Both events were majors, however. The degree of difficulty is way down this week, giving Sergio an excellent rebound opportunity.
Henrik Stenson [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #4
Over his last three starts, Stenson has recorded a trio of top-15 finishes with three straight top-10s on the European Tour. Since Stenson's sudden success is going unnoticed overseas, he comes at an excellent value. Stenson has missed the last two cuts at Sedgefield, but he's got the hot hand.
Fredrik Jacobson [Yahoo Class C] - Not Entered
While Jacobson skipped this event last year, he’s finished T12 and T17 in his last two starts at Sedgefield. Jacobson has only missed one cut all season, but has cooled off since a very solid June.
Blake Adams [Yahoo Class C]
Adams is coming off an excellent final round in the PGA Championship that saw him jump to a T7 finish. Prior to missing two straight cuts, he had made nine in a row with six finishes inside the top 30.
Nick Watney [Yahoo Class C]
After five straight top-25s, it appeared Watney was starting to turn around a very disappointing season. After a disastrous second round, he missed the cut at last week’s PGA Championship. Watney’s lone start at Sedgefield was a missed cut from 2008.
