Golf Rankings for TOUR Championship
Rory McIlroy [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #1
McIlroy has won each of the last two FedExCup events and three of the last four Tour events this year. So yeah, starting McIlroy is elementary for the season finale this week. He’s a first timer at East Lake Golf Club, but that doesn’t really matter as McIlroy ranks first in birdie average and scoring average.
Tiger Woods [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #43
Even though Woods has hit some bumps in the road, he’s still managed to record three top-fives and five finishes of 11th or better over his last six starts. Tiger won at East Lake in 2007 and was the runner-up in his most recent start at the site in 2009. In all, he’s recorded four solo second results in seven career starts at Atlanta over his career. Woods ranks second in scoring average, sixth in total driving, seven in birdie average and 11th in All-Around Ranking.
Phil Mickelson [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #16
Following an otherwise forgettable regular season, Mickelson has come to life over the last two events. After his first top-five finish since the Masters, Lefty earned a share of second in the BMW Championship. Mickelson ranks fourth in birdie average and fifth in strokes gained – putting. In nine career starts at East Lake he owns a pair of wins, most recently in 2009.
Dustin Johnson [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #22
Over the last three years, Johnson has yet to record a top-20 finish at East Lake. However, DJ has been excellent in the postseason with three straight finishes of sixth or better. Johnson ranks fifth in driving distance, seventh in scoring average and ninth in All-Around Ranking. The course history is very sketchy, but Johnson is playing well enough to reverse direction.
Lee Westwood [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #28
Westwood will be competing at East Lake for the first time on Tour, but is playing some very good golf right now. In the three FedExCup events held thus far, he’s recorded a pair of top-fives and has finished no worse than 13th. Westwood ranks second in greens in regulation percentage, seventh in birdie average, 10th in total driving and third in All-Around Ranking.
Adam Scott [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #3
Since 2004, Scott has made six starts at East Lake with mixed results. He won at the site in 2006, but finished outside of the top 25 in 2007 and 2010 until a T6 last year. Scott ranks fifth in scoring average and 15th in All-Around Ranking.
Luke Donald [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #34
Donald heads to Atlanta coming off two consecutive finishes outside of the top 25. Thankfully his history at East Lake is excellent the last two years with a solo second in 2010 and a T3 last year. Donald isn’t on top of his game right now, but could very well turn it around and end the season on a high note.
Louis Oosthuizen [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #44
In the month of August, Oosthuizen recorded three top-fives in four events. He took a slight step back in the BMW, but still managed a respectable T16. On Tour he ranks eighth in scoring average and seventh in both total driving and All-Around Ranking.
Jim Furyk [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #7
Since 2006, Furyk has made five starts at East Lake and has not finished worse than 11th. In his most recent trip back in 2010, he left victorious. Furyk began the postseason by missing the cut, but has bounced back with T13 and solo ninth finishes. He ranks third in driving accuracy percentage and fourth in scoring average.
Sergio Garcia [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #6
Following a victory in the Wyndham Championship, Garcia began the postseason with a T3. However, after taking a week off, he would finish T24 in the BMW. He hasn’t played East Lake in a while, but notched a solo fourth there in 2007 and was the runner-up the following year. Garcia ranks 18th in scoring average and 12th in All-Around Ranking.
Jason Dufner [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #36
After scoring his first two career victories on Tour earlier this season, Dufner has slipped during the postseason with finishes of T18 and T28. He’s played East Lake twice, a T19 in 2009 and a T13 a year ago. The Duf Man ranks third in birdie average and scoring average, fifth in total driving and second in All-Around Ranking.
Bubba Watson [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #4
Over his last four starts of the season, Watson has finished 12th or better on three occasions, but missed the cut in the second postseason event. He’s played East Lake each of the last two years, but did not score a top-15 finish. Watson ranks first in driving distance and 13th in All-Around Ranking.
