Golf Rankings for The Greenbrier Classic
Gary Woodland [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #73
In between missed cuts in 2010 and 2012 at the Greenbrier, Woodland scored a T4 in 2011. Before having to withdraw from Cromwell, he had recorded two straight top-20s. However, Woodland didn’t miss a beat last week at Congressional with a T16 showing.
Roberto Castro [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #121
Over his last six starts, Castro has finished 21st or better on four occasions and is coming off a career-best solo second last week at Congressional. He finished T7 in the Greenbrier last year thanks to a Sunday-best round of 63.
Louis Oosthuizen [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #14
Oosthuizen is on the entry list for the first time at The Greenbrier Classic, but isn’t a sure thing. Oosthuizen withdrew before the second round of the U.S. Open because of a bad hip. This came after he left the Byron Nelson in May with a neck issue, which also caused him to skip his scheduled start at Cromwell.
Kevin Chappell [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #34
Since finishing as the lone runner-up in the Memorial, Chappell has placed T32 in the U.S. Open and T28 last week at Congressional. He missed the cut at the Greenbrier in 2011, but finished T17 last year. Chappell is 18th in total driving and 31st in All-Around Ranking.
Kyle Stanley [Yahoo Class C]
Stanley overcame a poor second round of play in the 2011 Greenbrier to finish T9. He didn’t suit up for last year’s event, but will return to action this week following a missed cut at Cromwell. Stanley recently finished solo third in the Memorial and was playing well at the start of the U.S. Open, but came apart during the final two rounds.
Ryan Palmer [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #75
Over his last seven starts, Palmer has finished inside the top 35 six times, including a pair of top-fives. He missed the cut in his lone Greenbrier appearance from 2011. Palmer is seventh in birdie average and 11th in scoring average.
Charles Howell III [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #80
Howell is going the wrong way in the Greenbrier. After finishing T9 in the first event, he struggled in the final two rounds in the 2011 tournament to place T32. Howell also missed last year’s cut. CH3 had made five consecutive cuts this season with three top-25 finishes before missing the cut last week at Congressional.
John Senden [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #103
Senden skipped this event last year, but finished T21 and T14 in the previous two Greenbrier tournaments. Since missing five cuts in a span of nine events, he has made three consecutive cuts with one top-15.
Brian Davis [Yahoo Class C]
Davis missed the cut at the Greenbrier in both 2010 and 2012, but landed a T18 in 2011. He has made 11 of his last 12 cuts this season with a pair of top-10s in his last four appearances.
David Hearn [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #141
Hearn has played the Greenbrier each of the last two years with T12 and T18 finishes. He has made seven of his last eight cuts with five results coming inside the top 30.
Carl Pettersson [Yahoo Class C]
Pettersson made eight consecutive cuts prior to missing the cut at the Cromwell, but did not manage a top-20 finish in that time. He’s played all three events at the Greenbrier with T17 and T18 finishes the last two years.
Nick Watney [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #172
Watney went from three consecutive top-15s to missing three straight cuts and a T61 last week at Congressional. Watney is playing the Greenbrier for the first time and is back to being a risky selection.
