2m agoThe Eagles selected DeJean in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 40th overall.
DeJean was widely viewed as a viable first-round pick after an impressive Iowa career, so if his draft fall was unwarranted, then this could prove a steal for the Eagles. Philadelphia went into the draft with major concerns at cornerback, but between the selections of DeJean and first-round corner Quinyon Mitchell those worries are basically gone now. Mitchell is mostly a boundary corner, whereas DeJean (6-foot-1, 202 pounds) is more of a safety tweener who figures to hold a greater slot presence than on the outside. In addition to immediately competing for snaps in the slot and at safety, DeJean might get some punt-return work after returning one punt and three interceptions for touchdowns in college.

7m agoThe Rams selected Fiske in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 39th overall.
Los Angeles continues to rebuild its defensive front by way of Tallahassee by nabbing its second Florida State defensive lineman in as many picks. Fiske is a taller and lighter interior lineman at 6-foot-4 and 292 pounds who put himself on the second-round radar at the NFL Combine by turning out an unbelievable workout at his size. He ran a 4.78 in the 40 and recorded one of the best broad jumps for a defensive tackle in years (117 inches). Fiske's size is not that of a run-stuffer, but his motor and athleticism allow him to disrupt along the interior. He had 29 tackles for loss over his final three seasons at Western Michigan and Florida State. Fiske's length -- he's been measured with 31-inch arms -- was a concern to some, but clearly not Los Angeles.

11m agoThe Titans selected Sweat in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 38th overall.
Sweat was generally expected to go later than this, especially after a DWI arrest earlier in April, but the Texas defensive tackle is probably talented enough to justify the selection. At 6-foot-5, 366 pounds, Sweat is the type of enormous prospect that only shows up every five years or so, and at that size, he will always be more of a gap-holding presence than one that splits them for tackles in the backfield. With that said, Sweat seems unusually nimble and flexible for such a gigantic lineman, and he should be the kind of player who shows up on tape even if he's not the defender specifically making the tackle.

Ja'Lynn Polk 2005 WRPatriots' Ja'Lynn Polk: Links up with Maye in New England
14m agoThe Patriots selected Polk in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 37th overall.
New England gets a rookie wideout to pair with Drake Maye with the talented Polk out of Washington. Beginning his career at Texas Tech, Polk went to the Pacific Northwest in 2022 and started to carve out a role with 41 grabs for 694 yards and six touchdowns on 68 targets. He truly broke out in 2023 with 1,159 yards and nine touchdowns as the Robin to Rome Odunze's Batman. It's fair to wonder whether teammate Jalen McMillan's injury-plagued 2023 helped fuel Polk's breakout, given that McMillan nearly matched Odunze's production that year. Polk has conventional size at 6-foot-1 and 203 pounds, and while he doesn't wow with his speed (4.52), he's a refined player that wins with skill and good hands. In an offense that desperately needed receiver help, Polk is ticketed for a role in New England right away.

23m agoThe Falcons selected Orhorhohro in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 35th overall.
The Falcons continue to surprise with their draft selections after taking quarterback Michael Penix with the eighth overall pick Thursday. Orhorhoro going ahead of fellow defensive tackles Johnny Newton and Kris Jenkins was unexpected. A five-year player at Clemson, Orhorhoro is on the lighter side for a defensive tackle at 294 pounds on a 6-foot-4 frame but tested well at the combine, highlighted by a 4.89-second 40-yard dash. He did not begin playing football until his junior year of high school, which quells some concern regarding his advanced age coming into the league as he's still getting experience under his belt. He projects to challenge for snaps at the left defensive end spot in the Falcons' 3-4 front.

Ladd McConkey 2005 WRChargers' Ladd McConkey: Los Angeles picks up in Round 2
33m agoThe Chargers selected McConkey in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 34th overall.
McConkey (6-foot, 186 pounds) is a lighter receiver, but the former Georgia standout has a three-down skill set with the versatility to threaten defenses from both the slot and the boundary. While the downfield game isn't his primary strength, his 4.39-second combine 40 almost by default makes him the Chargers' best downfield target. Meanwhile, there's also a good chance McConkey is the Chargers' best target in the underneath and intermediate, because that's the main strength of his game anyway. While Joshua Palmer and Quentin Johnston have the seniority, McConkey is the one with the most athleticism and skill of the trio. McConkey took a clear back seat to tight end Brock Bowers in the Georgia target rotation the past few seasons, but there's no such similar presence in L.A.'s revamped pass catcher rotation now that Keenan Allen and Mike Williams are elsewhere.

35m agoCobb (hip/elbow/shoulder) has been held back from throwing for the last few days due to soreness in his right shoulder, and he is set to see a team doctor Friday night, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.comreports.
Cobb was shifted to the 60-day IL on April 20 to give him more time to recover from his multiple ailments. He underwent left hip surgery in the offseason and was progressing through his rehab assignment following spring training, but he has suffered another setback with right shoulder soreness this time. Cobb's visit with the team doctor Friday night should give him and the Giants a better idea of the next steps forward in his rehab schedule.

1h agoYankees manager Aaron Boone said Friday that Dominguez (elbow) has increased his throwing distance to 135 feet, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Dominguez continues to progress in his recovery from Tommy John surgery from last September, and Boone noted that the 21-year-old is "a few weeks" away from playing in a minor-league rehab game. Dominguez appeared in eight games with the Yankees last season, going 8-for-31 with four home runs and seven RBI over that span.

2h agoThe Pirates recalled Nicolas from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.
Nicolas ended the 2023 season as part of the Pirates' bullpen. He struggled in his four outings, giving up seven runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out seven over 5.1 frames. Nicolas has looked better in Triple-A this season, posting a 0.84 ERA and 2.06 WHIP over 10.2 innings, and he'll get another shot in Pittsburgh's bullpen. The move corresponds with Ryder Ryan being optioned by the Pirates to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.

Estrada went 0-for-2 in Wednesday's game against the Mets before being pulled due to left hamstring tightness. The Giants had their off day Thursday, but the 28-year-old will sit out for at least one more game while managing his injury. Tyler Fitzgerald will start at second base Friday and bat eighth against Pirates right-hander Quinn Priester.

With the series tied at 1-1, Leonard's health and impact will be key to the Clippers' success. Despite suiting up for back-to-back games, the questionable tag may stick with Leonard for the rest of the postseason.

Lillard went straight to the locker room after suffering an apparent left knee injury with 2:13 remaining in the first quarter, but he was back on the court to start the second period. Khris Middleton is playing through an ankle sprain he suffered in Game 2 and Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) has yet to play this postseason, so Lillard's return is a major relief. The All-Star has scored 69 points through the first two games of the series but struggled in the second half on both matchups, which allowed Indiana to even the series with a Game 2 win Tuesday.

Bucks' Damian Lillard: Heads to locker room
2h agoLillard left Friday's Game 3 with 2:13 remaining in the first quarter due to an apparent left knee injury and went to the locker room, Tony East of SI.com reports.
Lillard drove to the basket for a layup and gently collided with Pascal Siakam but landed awkwardly and had to be helped to the bench. Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) has yet to play this postseason, and Khris Middleton is playing through an ankle injury he suffered early in Game 2, so Lillard's potential absence couldn't come at a worse time. AJ Green subbed in for Lillard, but Pat Connaughton and Malik Beasley are also candidates for increased roles until the All-Star point guard can return.

Wright starred off the bench during the Game 1 loss and posted 17 points, three assists and two steals in 26 minutes. However, he finished the Game 2 win with just five points and four rebounds in 20 minutes. Either way, his potential loss could be costly to a backcourt already playing without Terry Rozier (neck) and Josh Richardson (shoulder). Jimmy Butler also remains out.

Hague had two goals, 12 points, 43 PIM, 154 hits and 111 blocks in 73 regular-season appearances in 2023-24. He also missed Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Stars due to the injury. Alec Martinez is likely to remain in the lineup for Game 3 due to Hague's continued absence.

Talbot has struggled against the Oilers, allowing 10 goals on 75 shots (.867 save percentage) over two playoff contests. Edmonton ranked fourth offensively with 3.56 goals per game in the regular season, so the Oilers are likely to continue to give the veteran goaltender trouble, especially because Talbot's been floundering for a while now. He has a 2.92 GAA and an .897 save percentage over his past 17 outings dating back to March 7.

6h agoShesterkin is slated to start on the road against Washington in Game 3 on Friday, according to Seth Orlemann of USA Today.
Shesterkin won the first two contests of the series while stopping 42 of 46 shots (.913 save percentage). The Capitals ranked 28th offensively with just 2.63 goals per game in the regular season, so it's not surprising that they haven't given Shesterkin much trouble in the first round. That said, the series moving to Washington might help the Capitals, who were 22-12-7 at home compared to 18-19-4 on the road during the 2023-24 campaign.
