2m agoThe Bills selected Carter in the third round of the NFL Draft, 95th overall.
Buffalo needed a youth infusion in the middle of the defense coming into the draft and Carter provides that. A Duke product, Carter was a decorated player during his time in Durham, earning Third-, Second-, and First-Team All-ACC honors. He is a squat defensive tackle that is hard to move at 6-foot-2 and 302 pounds who fires off the ball. His most disruptive season came in 2022 when he had 11.0 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks and while his statistics fell off a bit in 2023, he still put together a strong season. He projects to be the heir apparent to DaQuan Jones alongside Ed Oliver.

MarShawn Lloyd 2005 RBPackers' MarShawn Lloyd: Green Bay adds in third round
5m agoThe Packers selected Lloyd in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 88th overall.
Lloyd had an out-of-control fumbling problem in college at both USC and South Carolina, dropping the ball 11 times on just 291 career touches from scrimmage. If he keeps doing that at the NFL level he quite simply will not play. The good news is that if Lloyd can manage to fix his fumbling problem then he would have a lot of upside as one of the draft's toolsiest running backs. Lloyd packs memorable explosiveness and anchor onto a dense 5-foot-9, 220-pound frame, and when you pair his 4.46 speed with his low and dense center of gravity you have a running back who's very difficult to tackle. With Josh Jacobs around there won't be much for Lloyd to do in the near future, but the Packers have an interest in developing Lloyd so that he might hit his upside scenario, even if years down the road.

Adisa Isaac 2005 EDGERavens' Adisa Isaac: Charm City bound
10m agoThe Ravens selected Isaac in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 93rd overall.
The Ravens went back to Happy Valley to address its pass rush, nabbing Isaac out of Penn State after spending a first-round pick on Odafe Oweh in 2021. Isaac suffered a torn Achilles in 2021 but came back strong the following season, playing all 13 games. Isaac truly made a name for himself in 2023 as a fifth-year senior with 7.5 sacks and 16 tackles for loss. He's lean for an edge at 247 pounds but he's also explosive with 4.74 speed. As it stands, he'll be part of a deep edge rotation in Baltimore that features Oweh, Kyle Van Noy, and David Ojabo.

Dominick Puni 2005 IOL49ers' Dominick Puni: San Fran adds round three blocker
12m agoThe 49ers selected Puni in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 86th overall.
Puni (6-foot-5, 313 pounds) played left tackle for Kansas in 2023 but will likely be a guard at the NFL level due to short arms (33 and 3/8 inches). Puni was an effective college blocker and boasts standout athleticism (30-inch vertical, 107-inch broad jump), so there's little to dislike in his prospect profile despite his modest pedigree.

Roman Wilson 2005 WRSteelers' Roman Wilson: Pittsburgh snags in third round
16m agoThe Steelers selected Wilson in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 84th overall.
Wilson was widely expected to go sooner than this, but he falls to Pittsburgh here likely due to concerns about how well-rounded his skill set may be. The Michigan product is small at 5-foot-11, 185 pounds, and his generally strong 4.39-second 40-yard dash was actually a slight disappointment given that he was expected to be one of the three fastest receivers at the combine (his 4.39 was tied for sixth best). Still, Wilson is some version of very fast and should pose a consistent downfield threat in the NFL, even if he lacks other dimensions to his game. He risks getting cast largely as a speed decoy if he doesn't draw targets more consistently than he did at Michigan, however.

Green Bay is restocking its linebacker room on Day 2 of the draft as Hopper joins Edgerrin Cooper among rookie Packer 'backers. Hopper has explosive lower-body strength and was a solid tackler at Missouri with an ability to make plays in the backfield (20 TFL in final two seasons). Like Cooper, Hopper is on the smaller side for an off-ball linebacker and will need to improve his play strength to avoid being routinely washed out of plays. If nothing else, Green Bay is going with a volume approach in addressing its linebacking group.

Craig Kimbrel BAL RPOrioles' Craig Kimbrel: Charged with second blown save
4m agoKimbrel blew the save in Friday's loss to the A's, allowing a run on two hits and three walks in one-third of an inning.
Kimbrel allowed all five batters he faced to reach base safely, with the lone out coming when JJ Bleday was thrown out at home trying to score on a wild pitch. While Kimbrel was lucky to escape with just one allowed, he was still charged with his second blown save of the year, the first since his first appearance of the season on April 1. Kimbrel hadn't allowed an earned run in 10 innings coming into Friday, striking out 15 in that span. Overall, the 35-year-old Kimbrel's 7-for-9 in save chances with a 1.59 ERA and 1.06 WHIP through 11.1 innings this season.

14m agoGallen was removed from Friday's game against the Mariners with an apparent injury, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
It's not immediately apparent what was bothering Gallen enough to call for his removal in the sixth inning, but the Diamondbacks should offer more information relatively soon. The 28-year-old right-hander was able to get through five frames Friday while surrendering three earned runs on three hits and a walk while striking out three batters.

Corbin Burnes BAL SPOrioles' Corbin Burnes: Quality start in no-decision
25m agoBurnes did not factor into the decision Friday against Oakland, allowing one run on three hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out six.
Burnes was solid Friday, holding the A's to a lone run on a Shea Langeliers homer in the first inning. He'd depart with a one-run lead, though Oakland would tie the game off Craig Kimbrel in the ninth before beating the Orioles in extras, leaving Burnes with a no-decision. It's the first quality start in three outings for the 29-year-old right-hander -- Burnes failed to make it through six innings in his previous two starts. Overall, he's 3-0 with a 2.55 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 35:8 K:BB through six starts (35.1 innings) this season. Burnes is currently lined up for a home matchup with the Yankees next week.

34m agoX-rays on Diaz's hand came back negative Friday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Diaz had to leave Friday's game after getting hit in the hand by a pitch during the eighth inning, but it seems he escaped the incident without suffering any significant damage. He may still step out of the lineup for a game or two to avoid playing with any lingering pain, but an extended absence isn't likely.

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Exits after HBP
1h agoDiaz was removed from Friday's game against the White Sox after getting hit by a pitch, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Diaz took a 99-mph fastball off his hand during the eighth inning of Friday's contest and was immediately replaced on the bases. He will presumably undergo imaging, and the Rays should offer an update on his status sometime after the game.

1h agoCanzone (shoulder) began a throwing and running program Friday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
General manager Justin Hollander added that the team hopes for Canzone to begin a hitting progression sometime next week, though he is still several weeks out from full baseball activities. The 26-year-old outfielder sprained the AC joint in his left shoulder April 14, and Hollander's comments suggest he is not close to returning anytime soon. Luke Raley and Jonatan Clase should continue splitting time in left field while Canzone works his way back.

15m agoWestbrook was ejected from Saturday's 101-90 Game 3 loss to the Mavericks with 6:10 to play in the fourth quarter. He finished with one point (0-7 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 1-2 FT), three rebounds, one assist, one steal and two blocks in 19 minutes.
Westbrook let his frustrations get the best of him in this one. He was already carrying a technical foul when he proceeded to shove both Luka Doncic and P.J. Washington on the same play. Despite his outburst, a suspension is highly unlikely.

1h agoO'Neale will start Friday's Game versus the Timberwolves, Alan Horton of the Timberwolves Radio Network reports.
Grayson Allen (ankle) will sit out Game 3, but he's considered day-to-day and could be back for Game 4 on Sunday. In 14 starts during the regular season, O'Neale averaged 10.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.1 steals and 2.9 three-pointers.

This is a tough blow for the Suns, as Allen has been key to Phoenix's floor spacing this season. He was able to get in a limited practice Thursday and is considered day-to-day, so the Suns could potentially get him back for Game 4 on Sunday. Eric Gordon and Royce O'Neale are candidates to see increased run in the meantime.

2h agoMiddleton recorded 42 points (16-29 FG, 4-9 3Pt, 6-6 FT), 10 rebounds and five assists over 41 minutes in Friday's 121-118 overtime loss to Indiana in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.
Middleton did all he could to help lead Milwaukee to an overtime victory, including hitting the game-tying shot at the end of regulation to send the game to overtime and also tying the game late in overtime, but his 40-point double-double was spoiled in a losing effort. Middleton led all players in Friday's contest in scoring while ending as one of two Bucks with 10 or more rebounds to go along with a handful of assists in a well-rounded outing. If Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) remains out in Game 4, look for Middleton to continue to provide a lift to Milwaukee offensively in the quarterfinals series.

2h agoLillard posted 28 points (6-20 FG, 4-12 3Pt, 12-12 FT), eight assists, three steals and one rebound over 45 minutes in Friday's 121-118 overtime loss to Indiana in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.
Despite leaving Friday's game briefly with a knee injury, Lillard finished the Game 3 contest while leading all Bucks players in assists and ending two points shy of the 30-point mark to provide a boost offensively in a losing effort. Lillard, who was perfect from the free-throw line to go along with a team-high-tying mark from three, has posted at least 28 points in all three games of the quarterfinals. It will be worth monitoring Lillard's status ahead of Game 4 and if he has an issues with his left knee that limits his availability.

Skinner has struggled so far this postseason, coughing up nine goals on 63 shots in two games. Including his final start of the regular season, he's 1-2-0 with an unsightly .829 save percentage over his last three outings. Skinner went 13-10-2 with an .894 save percentage and a 2.80 GAA in 27 road appearances during the regular season.
