3h agoElliott's agent is meeting with the Cowboys in Dallas on Wednesday, Josina Anderson of CBS Sports reports.
This isn't the first time the two sides have been connected this offseason, as ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported last month that there was mutual interest in a reunion. The Cowboys lost Tony Pollard to the Titans in free agency and only added end-of-roster types Royce Freeman and Snoop Conner to a depth chart that includes Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn and Malik Davis. Elliott played in all 17 games for the Patriots last season, turning in a 184-642-3 rushing line while adding 51-313-2 as a receiver on 65 targets. Dallas will likely draft a running back this week.

4h agoHendrickson has requested that the Bengals trade him, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Per Schefter, Hendrickson -- who is in line to make $15 million this coming season -- is looking for more long-term security than the team has been willing to offer to this point. The 29-year-old is coming of a 2023 campaign in which he recorded 43 tackles and made a major impact as a pass rusher by racking up a career-high 17.5 sacks in 17 regular-season games.

6h agoThe Cowboys have picked up Parsons' fifth-year contract option, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
The move keeps the 2021 first-rounder -- who played the majority of his snaps at defensive end in 2023 -- under contract with Dallas through the 2025 campaign. Per Gehlken, the star defender's salary in his fifth NFL season will be $21.32 million. The 24-year-old is coming off another productive effort with the Cowboys, in which he racked up 64 tackles and a career high 14 sacks in 17 regular-season outings.

James Hurst NO OGJames Hurst: Announces retirement
6h agoHurst announced his retirement from the NFL after 10 seasons on Wednesday, Katherine Teller of ESPN reports.
Hurst has started 51 games between guard and tackle for the Saints since joining the team as a free agent after the 2020 season. He began his career as an UDFA with Baltimore. Hurst's official retirement just one day prior to the start of the 2024 NFL Draft leaves the team with a glaring need at left guard, though the team did reportedly have advanced warning of the decision. With former left tackle/guard Andrus Peat still a free agent, O-line could be a target with pick No. 14 overall.

8h agoSewell and the Lions agreed to terms Wednesday on a four-year, $112 million contract extension, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Sewell's deal, which reportedly includes $85 million guaranteed, makes him the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL. The tackle has played at a high level since joining Detroit as the No. 7 overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, but he took a step forward in 2023 while earning first-team All-Pro honors. In addition to the elite RT, the Lions extended top wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown to a four-year extension Wednesday, both one day in advance of the 2024 NFL Draft kicking off.

8h agoBateman signed a two-year contract extension Wednesday.
Bateman was already under contract through the upcoming season in the final year of his rookie deal, but the Ravens had until May 2 to decide whether to exercise the receiver's $14.44 million team option for 2025. By reaching an extension with Bateman, the Ravens will no longer have to decide on whether to exercise or decline the option, as he's now on the team's books through 2026. The 24-year-old appeared in 16 of the Ravens' 17 regular-season games this past season, catching 32 of 56 targets for 367 yards and one touchdown. Despite Bateman's underwhelming production during his third NFL season, head coach John Harbaugh noted earlier in the offseason that he views the wideout as a candidate to "take a big step" forward in 2024, per Ryan Mink of the Ravens' official site. The Ravens' pass-catching corps should look mostly similar in 2024 as it did in 2023, as No. 1 wideout Zay Flowers is entering his second season and standout tight end Mark Andrews is back in the fold, though Odell Beckham is currently a free agent and may not be brought back.

11m agoWalsh cleared waivers Wednesday and elected to become a free agent.
Walsh was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Saturday to make room for Nathaniel Lowe's return from the IL, and the 30-year-old first baseman will now take his chances in the open market. He is slashing .226/.317/.321 with a home and seven RBI through 60 plate appearances on the year and should be able to at least secure a minor-league deal with another organization.

15m agoBrewers manager Pat Murphy said Wednesday that an MRI on Miley's left elbow was inconclusive, prompting the Brewers to send the left-hander to Cincinnati for an in-person arthogram, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Miley was placed on the 15-day injured list Monday due to left elbow inflammation, but the Brewers apparently still have some concern that the southpaw may be dealing with some ligament damage. The arthogram should offer more clarity on the matter, while also helping the Brewers in deciding a treatment plan for Miley's injury. Tobias Myers was called up from Triple-A Nashville on Monday and ended up taking Miley's spot in the rotation Tuesday in Pittsburgh.

20m agoRed Sox manager Alex Cora said prior to Wednesday's 8-0 win over the Guardians that Yoshida is still viewed as the team's primary designated hitter, despite being on the bench for two straight matchups with right-handed starting pitchers, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. "He's an everyday DH, man," Cora said of Yoshida. "I don't know what the big deal is. [Tyler] O'Neill had to DH [on Tuesday]. [Rafael Devers] had to DH [on Wednesday]."
Yoshida's consecutive absences from the lineup created some question regarding whether the 30-year-old was still viewed as an everyday player after struggling to a .250/.333/.375 slash line through the Red Sox's first 24 games of the season, but Cora dispelled the notion that Yoshida's role was being downsized. The skipper noted that the Red Sox's injury situation was largely responsible for Yoshida being excluded from the lineup, as O'Neill was limited to DH duties when he came off the 7-day injured list ahead of Tuesday's 4-1 loss, and Devers was eased back in as a DH on Wednesday after having not played in a week due to a bone bruise in his left knee. O'Neill returned to his usual spot in left field Wednesday, but Devers may need another day or two as a DH before the Red Sox clear him to play third base. Since the Red Sox aren't keen on having Yoshida play in the corner outfield, he could miss out on more starts until Devers is back at third base on a full-time basis.

30m agoMurphy (oblique) was able to catch bullpen sessions Tuesday and Wednesday but has yet to resume swinging a bat, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Murphy's ability to throw at full strength while donning his full catching equipment represents a positive step forward in his recovery from a Grade 1 left oblique strain, but until he starts swinging the bat again, his return from the 10-day injured list shouldn't be viewed as imminent. The backstop has been on the shelf since March 30 with the injury.

Rafaela made a fifth consecutive start at shortstop, which could be his primary home for the rest of the season. While his defense in center field will be missed, moving him to the infield allows the Red Sox to get better bats into the lineup. That's is important for a team missing Trevor Story (shoulder) and Triston Casas (rib).

37m agoAlbies (toe) took part in baserunning as part of a workout prior to Atlanta's game against the Marlins on Wednesday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Albies continues to trend in a positive direction in his recovery from a fractured right big toe, which he sustained April 16. The second baseman had already participated in fielding drills and resumed swinging a bat in recent days, and being able to run the bases is another sign that he's no longer inhibited by the injury. Albies is first eligible for activation from the 10-day injured list Friday, and he appears on track to play this weekend versus the Guardians if he avoids any setbacks coming out of Wednesday's workout.

Brown led all players in Wednesday's contest in scoring while connecting on a team-high mark from three and hauling in a team-high-tying rebound total in a well-rounded performance in a losing effort. Brown had his breakout game in the series against the Heat after posting 17 points in Sunday's Game 1 win. Brown has recorded at least 17 points and eight rebounds in both games, the type of performance the Celtics hope continues the rest of the quarterfinals series.

Tatum, who also hauled in a team-high-tying rebound total, has impressed so far in the series against Miami, recording at least 20 points and eight boards in both postseason contests.

White provided a boost on the offensive end of the court for Boston in a losing effort, handing out a team-high-tying quartet of assists to go along with a pair of threes and concluding as one of three Celtics in double figures in scoring. White has pitched in nicely behind Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum in the quarterfinals, recording at least 13 points and four rebounds in both outings against Miami.

Herro stepped up big for Miami in a bounce-back win in Game 2, leading all players in the contest in threes made and assists while leading all Heat players in scoring in an impressive outing. Herro set a season-high in assists for any Miami player this year, tying the second-most dimes by a Heat player in a playoff game in team history. Miami will need Herro to continue to step up offensively, especially with Jimmy Butler (knee) inactive.

Martin had a breakout performance in Wednesday's bounce-back victory, earning his second straight start to begin the series against the Celtics. Martin connected on a handful of threes while ending as one of three Heat players with 20 or more points, a mark he surpassed on four occasions during the regular season. Martin responded well after scoring four points in Game 1 and Miami will look for him to continue to help boost the offense in Game 3 and beyond.

Adebayo led all players in Wednesday's contest in rebounds while ending as one of three Heat players with 20 or more points in a well-balanced 20-10 double-double to help Miami to a bounce-back victory. Adebayo posted his first double-double of the postseason, scoring north of 20 points in both games in the quarterfinals thus far.

15m agoBrisson, Grigori Denisenko, Byron Froese, Kaedan Korczak, Dysin Mayo, Mason Morelli, Isaiah Saville, Christoffer Sedoff and Jesper Vikman were recalled from AHL Henderson on Wednesday, per CapFriendly.
Brisson posted eight points in 15 NHL outings this season. While none of these call-ups should be expected to see much playing time during the Golden Knights' playoff run, Brisson likely has the best chance of drawing in should injuries pile up. Henderson failed to qualify for the AHL playoffs, giving Vegas a chance to bolster its reserves.

2h agoDeSmith will start Game 3 on the road versus the Predators on Friday, Robby Stanley of NHL.com reports.
DeSmith is now the Canucks' top goalie since Thatcher Demko (undisclosed) is considered week-to-week. DeSmith struggled in Game 2 on Tuesday, allowing three goals on 15 shots in a 4-1 loss. The 32-year-old will likely need a bit more goal support from his team, as well as a better performance from himself between the pipes, in order for the Canucks to have a chance to regain a series lead.

4h agoNylander (undisclosed) is not on the ice for warmups, indicating he won't play in Game 3 versus the Bruins on Wednesday, David Alter of The Hockey News reports.
Nylander has been a game-time call throughout the playoffs, but he'll miss his third straight contest to open the Maple Leafs' first-round series. The 27-year-old's next chance to play is Saturday's Game 4 -- he may benefit from having an extra day to try to shake off the injury.

6h agoJones has been cleared from his sprained shoulder injury, the team announced Wednesday.
Jones missed the final 11 contests of the season because of the injury. He finished 2023-24 with five goals, 15 points, 33 PIM and 125 hits in 52 outings. The 26-year-old is set to become a restricted free agent this summer, and Jones figures to maintain his bottom-six role with the Ducks in 2024-25 if the two sides are able to come to terms on a new contract.

Wagner passed through waivers Tuesday in order to make him available for the Eagles' playoff matchup with AHL Abbotsford on Wednesday. Even though Wagner was a healthy scratch for the Avs' first two postseason contests, he will likely come back up to the NHL ahead of Game 3 versus Winnipeg on Friday.
