Kadarius Toney KC WR
Chiefs' Kadarius Toney: Still in team's plans
3h agoThe Chiefs are optimistic Toney will contribute in 2024, ESPN's Adam Teicher reports.
GM Brett Veach recently referred to Toney as "probably our most talented wideout," and coach Andy Reid said the 25-year-old is "arguably one of the most talented guys on the team." The implication, supported by Veach's comments, is that Toney's lack of playing time last season was largely a product of medical struggles, starting with a meniscus injury during training camp. The problem, of course, is that the health issues have been a constant, with the 2021 first-round pick missing at least four games in each of his three pro seasons and also seeing his snaps limited a number of other times. Toney has never recorded more than six targets or 30 offensive snaps in a game with the Chiefs, though he did have some big moments during the team's Super Bowl run at the end of 2022. An ongoing legal situation involving Chiefs WR Rashee Rice could open the door for Toney to get more playing time at some point in 2024, with his YAC ability potentially making him a good fit to see a lot of the quick passes Rice hauled in as a rookie in 2023. Fantasy relevance seems like somewhat of a longshot nonetheless, especially after Toney was a healthy(ish) scratch for the Chiefs' Super Bowl win over San Francisco in February.

Skyy Moore KC WR
Chiefs' Skyy Moore: Needs to earn spot on roster
3h agoMoore isn't a lock to make the 2024 roster, according to ESPN's Adam Teicher.
The 2022 second-round pick has averaged 1.4 catches for 16.5 yards through 30 regular-season games, mostly serving as Kansas City's fourth or fifth wide receiver. It won't be surprising if Moore ends up earning a depth job again, though his fate partially depends on how things play out with the 2024 NFL Draft, Rashee Rice's legal situation and Kadarius Toney's health, among other factors. Rice and free-agent signing Marquise Brown figure to play a lot when available, though neither can exactly be called reliable at this point in time. Even so, Moore's lack of playing time and production through two seasons suggests he's not the most likely beneficiary in the event things go south for Rice and/or Brown. The Chiefs seem more optimistic about Toney and Justin Watson, and they might devote an early draft pick to the position.

Jake Browning CIN QB
Bengals' Jake Browning: Signs through 2025
4h agoBrowning signed a two-year contract with the Bengals on Tuesday.
Undrafted back in 2019, the QB spent two years on Minnesota's practice squad and then two seasons on Cincinnati's. Browning finally got his shot in 2023, winning the No. 2 QB job for the Bengals and eventually replacing an injured Joe Burrow (wrist) for the final seven and a half games of the season. Browning played surprisingly well down the stretch, with 15 total TDs (three rushing) and seven turnovers (all INTs) while leading all qualified passers in completion percentage (70.4) and ranking fifth in yards per attempt (8.0). The 28-year-old's status as an exclusive-rights free agent this offseason essentially locked him into staying with the Bengals, and the two-year deal now sets him up to be a restricted free agent after 2025. His solid performance in 2023 --combined with 2-3 more years of team contract control -- could make Browning a trade target for QB-needy teams, though there haven't been rumblings of interest this spring.

Rasul Douglas BUF CB
Bills' Rasul Douglas: Key acquisition in 2023
11h agoDouglas posted 61 tackles, 1.0 sacks, 14 passes defensed, five interceptions, a pick-six and three fumble recoveries over 16 regular-season games split between the Packers and Bills.
The Bills acquired Douglas from Green Bay in a Halloween trade, and the veteran played a key role in helping the Bills turn around their season and win a fourth straight AFC East title. With Buffalo losing several key pieces this offseason, Douglas will remain a clear-cut starter and locker room leader entering his eighth NFL season. He's had four-plus picks in each of the last three seasons.

Jacob Phillips CLE LB
Texans' Jacob Phillips: Houston bound
19h agoPhillips (pectoral) inked a one-year deal with the Texans on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Phillips spent last year on Cleveland's injured reserve due to a torn pectoral muscle. It was his second straight season-ending pectoral injury, as the same injury ended his 2022 campaign early. The 2020 third-round pick's addition to the Texans' offseason roster indicates his health is back to up to par. He will now compete for a role at linebacker in Houston.
-
Mitchell Wilcox NE TE
Patriots' Mitchell Wilcox: Inks new deal
22h agoWilcox signed a contract with the Patriots on Monday, Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald reports.
Wilcox now will call New England home after spending the first three campaigns of his career In Cincinnati. The 27-year-old appeared in all 17 regular-season games in 2023, mostly operating as the Bengals' No. 3 option at tight end and recording nine catches (on 12 targets) for 56 yards. If he can make the Patriots' roster this year, he'll likely be a depth option for them, too.

David Banuelos BAL C
Orioles' David Banuelos: Sent to Triple-A
11m agoThe Orioles optioned Banuelos to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old had his contract selected by Baltimore on Monday but was only with the big club one day as prospect Heston Kjerstad was promoted Tuesday. Banuelos isn't likely to receive another look with the Orioles if Adley Rutschman and James McCann stay healthy.
-
Heston Kjerstad BAL DH
Orioles' Heston Kjerstad: Promotion made official
13m agoThe Orioles recalled Kjerstad from Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday.
Kjerstad had gotten off to an unbelievable start at Norfolk this season, slashing .349/.431/.744 with 10 home runs over 21 contests. It could be tricky finding consistent playing time for Kjerstad given the Orioles' bevy of options, but the left-handed batter will certainly be in the mix for starts between designated hitter, the corner outfield spots and first base against right-handed pitching.

Gio Urshela DET 3B
Tigers' Gio Urshela: Straight-line running Tuesday
20m agoUrshela (hamstring) did some straight-line running drills Tuesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
It's a good sign that he's already doing some running just a few days after landing on the injured list with a right hamstring strain. Urshela will eventually progress to running the bases and could need a short rehab assignment before rejoining the Tigers.
-
Andy Ibanez DET 3B
Tigers' Andy Ibanez: Goes through full workout
23m agoIbanez (hamstring) went through a full workout at second base on the field Tuesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
McCosky added that Ibanez didn't appear to be favoring his left hamstring at all. The veteran utility player would appear to be close to beginning a rehab assignment, with a return before the end of the month possible. Once he rejoins the Tigers, most of Ibanez's playing time figures to come against lefties.
-
Josh Sborz TEX RP
Rangers' Josh Sborz: Beginning rehab assignment
41m agoThe Rangers assigned Sborz (shoulder) to Double-A Frisco on Tuesday to begin a rehab assignment.
The right-hander has been on the shelf with a rotator cuff strain since April 7, and he shouldn't require a lengthy rehab assignment since it's been a relatively brief absence. Sborz made three appearances prior to the injury and struck out three without allowing a run over 2.2 innings.
-
Joe Jacques BOS RP
Diamondbacks' Joe Jacques: Claimed by Arizona
1h agoThe Diamondbacks claimed Jacques off waivers from the Red Sox on Tuesday, Andrew Parker of Beyond the Monster reports.
Jacques had been designated for assignment after making one appearance this season for Boston. The left-hander holds a career 5.08 ERA, 22:10 K:BB and 63 percent groundball rate over 28.1 innings at the major-league level.

Kawhi Leonard LAC SF
Clippers' Kawhi Leonard: Present at shootaround
36m agoLeonard (knee) is officially listed as questionable but was present for the Clippers' morning shootaround before Tuesday's Game 2 against the Mavericks, Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN.com
Leonard was ruled out for Sunday's Game 1 win, his ninth consecutive absence, but has a chance to return Tuesday. The Clippers will likely decide the veteran's availability closer to the 10 p.m. ET tipoff after seeing how he fares in pregame warmups. If Leonard is ruled out again, expect P.J. Tucker and Amir Coffey to pick up extra minutes.

Michael Porter Jr. DEN SF
Nuggets' Michael Porter: Goes for 22 points in Game 2
3h agoPorter totaled 22 points (8-13 FG, 6-10 3Pt), nine rebounds, one assist and two steals in 38 minutes during Monday's 101-99 victory over the Lakers in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.
Porter sniffed a double-double for the second consecutive game after delivering a 19-point, eight-rebound effort in Game 1 on Saturday, and the forward continues to impact both ends of the court for Denver. Even though he doesn't get the same attention as Nikola Jokic or Jamal Murray, Porter is a key piece in the Nuggets' offensive scheme, and he's averaging 16.2 points with 7.3 rebounds per game in April, including regular-season contests.
-
Nikola Jokic DEN C
Nuggets' Nikola Jokic: Posts triple-double in Game 2 win
3h agoJokic closed Monday's 101-99 win over the Lakers in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals with 27 points (9-16 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 7-7 FT), 20 rebounds, 10 assists and two steals across 41 minutes.
Jamal Murray might have grabbed most of the headlines after draining a buzzer-beating, game-winning shot to lift Denver to victory, but Jokic's contributions can't be overlooked, as the MVP favorite posted a triple-double while dealing with the menace of Anthony Davis on both ends of the court. Jokic extended an impressive run that has seen him record a double-double or a triple-double in each of his last 16 games, a span in which he's averaging 28.3 points, 13.4 rebounds and 8.4 assists per game.
-
Jamal Murray DEN PG
Nuggets' Jamal Murray: Sinks game-winning shot Monday
4h agoMurray ended Monday's 101-99 victory over the Lakers in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals with 20 points (9-24 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, five assists and two blocks across 39 minutes.
Even though Nikola Jokic stole the show with a triple-double, it was Murray who ended up being the hero for the Nuggets, as his buzzer-beating fadeaway gave Denver a massive win despite the team trailing by as many as 20 points at one point in the third quarter. Murray has scored at least 20 points in each of his last six appearances dating back to the regular season, and the star floor general should handle a prominent role in Game 3 on Thursday as the series shifts to Los Angeles.
-
Anthony Davis LAL C
Lakers' Anthony Davis: Leads Lakers in Game 2 defeat
4h agoDavis ended Monday's 101-99 loss to the Nuggets in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals with 32 points (14-19 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 4-4 FT), 11 rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal over 39 minutes.
Davis has led the Lakers in scoring in each of the first two games of the series, but despite producing back-to-back 30-plus point efforts in the matchup against Nikola Jokic, the Lakers have fallen short of victory both times. Davis will likely land on the injury report ahead of Game 3, but given the situation and the workload he's handled in the first two games of the series, the star big man shouldn't have problems being active for Game 3 on Thursday.
-
LeBron James LAL SF
Lakers' LeBron James: Sniffs triple-double in loss
4h agoJames ended with 26 points (9-19 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 5-7 FT), eight rebounds, 12 assists, two blocks and two steals over 38 minutes during Monday's 101-99 loss to the Nuggets in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.
James finished just two rebounds shy of a triple-double Monday, and even though the 39-year-old forward is competing at a high level, it seems the Lakers keep falling short against Denver. James has recorded at least 25 points, six rebounds and eight assists in the first two games of the series, and he should continue to have a high usage rate during Game 3 on Thursday.
-
Nicolas Hague LV D
Golden Knights' Nicolas Hague: Sustains undisclosed injury
7m agoHague -- who missed the last eight minutes of Game 1 versus the Stars on Monday -- will be reevaluated prior to Game 2 on Wednesday, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports.
While Hague's potential absence is unlikely to impact the Golden Knights' offensive game, he's pointless in 20 straight matches, he does add a level of physicality with 60 hits over that stretch. If Hague can't play Wednesday, coach Bruce Cassidy will have the choice between Alec Martinez or Ben Hutton for the third pairing.
-
Casey DeSmith VAN G
Canucks' Casey DeSmith: Tending twine in Game 2
7m agoDeSmith will patrol the home crease Tuesday in Game 2 against Nashville, according to Brendan Batchelor of Sportsnet 650.
DeSmith will get the nod after Thatcher Demko was injured following Sunday's series-opening victory over the Predators. DeSmith filled in admirably as the Canucks' No. 1 netminder during the regular season when Demko was out due to a knee injury. The 32-year-old DeSmith posted a 12-9-6 record with a 2.89 GAA and an .895 save percentage in 29 appearances. He also stopped 26 shots in a 5-2 win over Nashville on Dec. 19.
-
Sergei Bobrovsky FLA G
Panthers' Sergei Bobrovsky: Tending twine Tuesday
11m agoBobrovsky will defend the home cage against the Lightning in Game 2 on Tuesday.
Bobrovsky faced just 19 shots in Game 1, stopping 17 of them on the way to an .895 save percentage. Despite posting a sub-900 save percentage, the 35-year-old Russian still managed to secure an important victory for the Cats -- extending his winning streak to three games. Barring an injury, Bobrovsky should be between the crease for every game in the playoffs.
-
Thatcher Demko VAN G
Canucks' Thatcher Demko: Out Tuesday, considered day-to-day
40m agoDemko is considered day-to-day with an undisclosed injury and won't play in Tuesday's Game 2 versus the Predators, Canucks rinkside reporter Kate Pettersen reports.
Demko was solid in Sunday's Game 1, stopping 20 of 22 shots en route to a 4-2 win over Nashville. The good news is Demko's undisclosed injury isn't related to the knee issue that kept him out from March 13 to April 13. The bad news is the Canucks will be without their No. 1 netminder for at least one playoff game and potentially more. Casey DeSmith will take over for Vancouver between the pipes until Demko is ready to return.
-
Justus Annunen COL G
Avalanche's Justus Annunen: Unavailable against Jets
1h agoAnnunen (illness) will not be in the lineup versus Winnipeg on Tuesday, Kyle Fredrickson of The Denver Gazette reports.
Annunen probably had a decent chance to start Game 2 but his continued illness will see him once again missing from the bench. In the meantime, Ivan Prosvetov will serve as the No. 2 option behind Alexandar Georgiev against the Jets on Tuesday. If Georgiev struggles again, after giving up seven goals on 23 shots in Game 1, Annunen could challenge for the starting gig if healthy enough to play in Game 3 on Friday.
-
William Nylander TOR RW
Maple Leafs' William Nylander: Possible for Game 3
1h agoNylander (undisclosed) is a possibility for Game 3 against Boston on Wednesday, Mark Masters of TSN reports.
Coach Sheldon Keefe was unable to provide a more substantial update Tuesday because it was a travel day for the Maple Leafs. Nylander missed both of Toronto's contests in Boston to begin the playoffs because of an undisclosed injury. Still, it wouldn't be surprising if the 27-year-old forward was a game-time decision for a third straight outing. Nylander produced 40 goals and a career-high 98 points in 82 games during the 2023-24 regular season.
