Penei Sewell DET OT
Lions' Penei Sewell: Inks massive extension
17m agoSewell and the Lions agreed to terms Wednesday on a four-year, $112 million contract extension, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Sewell's deal, which reportedly includes $85 million guaranteed, makes him the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL. The tackle has played at a high level since joining Detroit as the No. 7 overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, but he took a step forward in 2023 while earning first-team All Pro honors. In addition to the elite RT, the Lions extended top wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown to a four-year extension Wednesday, both one day in advance of the 2024 NFL Draft kicking off.

Rashod Bateman BAL WR
Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Inks extension with Baltimore
1h agoBateman signed a two-year contract extension Wednesday.
Bateman was already under contract through the upcoming season in the final year of his rookie deal, but the Ravens had until May 2 to decide whether to exercise the receiver's $14.44 million team option for 2025. By reaching an extension with Bateman, the Ravens will no longer have to decide on whether to exercise or decline the option, as he's now on the team's books through 2026. The 24-year-old appeared in 16 of the Ravens' 17 regular-season games this past season, catching 32 of 56 targets for 367 yards and one touchdown. Despite Bateman's underwhelming production during his third NFL season, head coach John Harbaugh noted earlier in the offseason that he views the wideout as a candidate to "take a big step" forward in 2024, per Ryan Mink of the Ravens' official site. The Ravens' pass-catching corps should look mostly similar in 2024 as it did in 2023, as No. 1 wideout Zay Flowers is entering his second season and standout tight end Mark Andrews is back in the fold, though Odell Beckham is currently a free agent and may not be brought back.

Alex Highsmith PIT LB
Steelers' Alex Highsmith: Restructures deal
1h agoHighsmith and the Steelers agreed Wednesday to restructure his contract and create roughly $7 million in cap space, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Highsmith is likely converting a portion of his base salary into a signing bonus, with Rapaport calling the move a "simple" restructure. The 2020 third-round pick notched a solid 7.0 sacks across 17 regular-season appearances in 2023, a far cry from his career-high 14.5 sacks in 2022, but he remains an integral part of Pittsburgh's defense for the foreseeable future.

Ja'Marr Chase CIN WR
Bengals' Ja'Marr Chase: Fifth-year option picked up
2h agoThe Bengals have elected to pick up Chase's fifth-year contract option.
With the expected move, Chase will remain under contract with Cincinnati through the 2025 campaign. This past season, the 2021 first-rounder recorded a career-high 100 catches (on 145 targets) for 1,216 yards and seven TDs in 16 regular-season games. The 24-year-old is thus poised to remain QB Joe Burrow's top pass-catching option for the next couple of years, and in that context Chase remains a top tier fantasy option at the wide receiver position.

Xavien Howard MIA CB
Xavien Howard: Past foot injury
2h agoHoward (foot) was fully cleared for football activities earlier this month, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports.
This news, which was relayed by Howard's doctor in a letter, should help pave the way for the free agent cornerback, who dealt with a foot issue late last season, to catch on with another team. Prior to missing Miami's last two contests (Week 18 and the team's wild-card loss to Kansas City), Howard -- a four-time Pro Bowler -- had recorded 45 tackles and an interception in 13 games.
-
Amon-Ra St. Brown DET WR
Lions' Amon-Ra St. Brown: Signing massive extension
3h agoSt. Brown and the Lions reached agreement Tuesday on a four-year extension, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
The initial report has it as a $120 million deal, including $77 million guaranteed. If those numbers hold up when more details come out, St. Brown will tie Tyreek Hill's WR record for average annual value ($30 million) and have the stand-alone record for money guaranteed. Of course, he probably won't hold those records for long, as the list of star WRs nearing the end of their rookie contracts includes Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb and Ja'Marr Chase. In any case, St. Brown has improved his receiving volume and fantasy production with each passing season in the NFL, and he should have another big year in 2024 while catching passes from QB Jared Goff in an offense that will be coordinated by Ben Johnson for at least one more season.

Masataka Yoshida BOS DH
Red Sox's Masataka Yoshida: Out against right-hander again
7m agoYoshida is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.
Yoshida didn't start Tuesday, either, but Red Sox manager Alex Cora had indicated the 30-year-old would be back in the lineup Wednesday. That's not the case, as the lefty-hitting Yoshida is sitting out a second straight contest against a right-hander. According to Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican, Cora hasn't provided clarity whether Yoshida is dealing with an injury or is simply being held out of the lineup for performance-related reasons, as Yoshida is slashing just .250/.333/.375 over 21 contests this season. Rafael Devers will serve as Boston's designated hitter Wednesday while Yoshida remains on the bench.
-
Scott Alexander OAK RP
Athletics' Scott Alexander: Takes positive step Tuesday
9m agoAlexander (ribs) threw a successful bullpen session Tuesday, the Associated Press reports.
The veteran right-hander appears to be one step closer to beginning a rehab assignment following Tuesday's developments. Alexander spent over a month without throwing off a mound before starting a throwing program, so he should be in for multiple minor-league appearances whenever he is cleared for game action.
-
Rafael Devers BOS 3B
Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Back in lineup at DH
11m agoDevers (knee) will start at designated hitter and bat second in Wednesday's contest in Cleveland, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.
Devers hasn't played since April 17 due to a bone bruise on his left knee, and between that injury and a shoulder problem, he's seen action in just three of the last 12 games. However, he's feeling well enough to give it a go Wednesday, albeit in a non-defensive role. Devers should be ready to play third base soon.
-
Alex Young CIN RP
Reds' Alex Young: Shifts to 60-day IL
18m agoThe Reds transferred Young from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.
Young has been on the shelf all season while recovering low back disc degeneration, an issue that resulted in him being shut down in mid-March during spring training. Manager David Bell recently disclosed that Young wasn't expected to be ready to make his season debut until late May, so the lefty reliever's move to the 60-day injured list won't have much effect, if any, on his recovery timeline.
-
Michael Taylor PIT CF
Pirates' Michael Taylor: On bench Wednesday
23m agoTaylor is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.
Taylor will sit for the second time in four games, enabling Jack Suwinski to pick up a start in center field while Connor Joe and Edward Olivares occupy the corner-outfield spots. With Minnesota last season, Taylor was a sneaky source of fantasy value with 21 home runs and 13 stolen bases, but he's not providing much counting-stats juice in the early stages of the 2024 campaign. Through 66 plate appearances over 18 games, Taylor is hitting .267 but has yet to hit a home run and has stolen only one base.
-
Andrew McCutchen PIT DH
Pirates' Andrew McCutchen: Taking seat Wednesday
24m agoMcCutchen is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Brewers.
McCutchen has gone deep in back-to-back contests, but he'll receive a day of rest Wednesday. Bryan Reynolds will get a turn as the Pirates' designated hitter, while Connor Joe and Edward Olivares will occupy the outfield corners.
-
Giannis Antetokounmpo MIL PF
Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo: Still not scrimmaging
1h agoAntetokounmpo (calf) has started doing stationary jump shooting but still isn't running or cutting as of Wednesday, Shams Charania reported on FanDuel's Run It Back.
Damian Lillard had another stellar first-half performance in Game 2 but couldn't keep the Bucks close in the second half as the Pacers evened the series. Antetokounmpo's status for Game 3 on Friday likely won't be known until Thursday afternoon, but Charania suggests Milwaukee should be preparing to play without Antetokounmpo again. The MVP candidate has missed five straight games dating back to the regular season and hasn't played since April 9. However, if Antetokounmpo gets the green light, it's safe to expect he'll handle as many minutes as necessary in an attempt to keep the Bucks' postseason hopes alive.
-
Nikola Jovic MIA PF
Heat's Nikola Jovic: Dealing with minor back issue
1h agoJovic is probable for Wednesday's Game 2 against the Celtics due to back discomfort/spasms.
Jovic is still expected to suit up despite being a late addition to the injury report. He posted 10 points, six rebounds and one block in 26 minutes during the 114-94 Game 1 loss and has started 29 straight appearances dating back to the regular season.
-
Dean Wade CLE PF
Cavaliers' Dean Wade: Ruled out for Game 3
2h agoWade (knee) didn't practice Wednesday and will be unavailable for Thursday's Game 3 against the Magic, Evan Dammarell of FearTheSword.com reports.
Wade hasn't suited up since March 8 due to a right knee sprain, and it's not yet clear when he'll be able to return. However, the team has been evaluating him on a game-by-game basis, and his next chance to suit up will be in Saturday's Game 4.
-
Jalen Suggs ORL SG
Magic's Jalen Suggs: Goes through practice
2h agoSuggs (knee) was able to practice Wednesday, Dan Savage of the Magic's official site reports.
Coach Jamahl Mosley said that Suggs is feeling better, and previous reports have indicated that the guard is expected to play in Game 3 Thursday against the Cavaliers. Fantasy managers can expect more clarity when Orlando releases their official injury report Wednesday evening.
-
Ben Simmons BKN PG
Nets' Ben Simmons: On track for training camp
2h agoNets general manager Sean Marks said Wednesday that "all signs point to" Simmons (back) being available to start next season's training camp, Tim Bontemps of ESPN.com reports.
Simmons underwent a successful microscopic partial discectomy in mid-March to alleviate the nerve impingement in his lower back, marking yet another injury-related setback for the 2017 No. 1 overall pick. The 27-year-old has played in only 57 games across the last three seasons, but when available, he has shown he can still be an active defender and excellent playmaker. Simmons has one more year remaining on his current contract, a five-year extension he signed with Philadelphia in 2019.
-
De'Anthony Melton PHI SG
76ers' De'Anthony Melton: Practices Wednesday
2h agoCoach Nick Nurse said Melton (back) practiced Wednesday and is on track to suit up for Thursday's Game 3 against the Knicks, but the shooting guard will likely still be listed as questionable on the official injury report, Kyle Neubeck of AllPHLY.com reports.
Melton has appeared in only five games since Jan. 12 and last suited up April 12, so even if he gets the green light, he'll presumably be eased into action. The sixth-year wing made only 38 regular-season appearances and averaged 11.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.6 steals in 26.9 minutes per game.
-
Cam Talbot LA G
Kings' Cam Talbot: Set to start Wednesday
1h agoTalbot is expected to start on the road against Edmonton in Game 2 on Wednesday, per Tom Gazzola of Edmonton Sports Talk.
Talbot will seek revenge after allowing six goals on 44 shots en route to a 7-4 loss to the Oilers on Monday. He had a 27-20-6 record, 2.50 GAA and .913 save percentage in 54 regular-season appearances. Edmonton, which ranked fourth offensively with 3.56 goals per contest during the 2023-24 campaign, will continue to be a challenging opponent for the veteran goaltender.
-
Thatcher Demko VAN G
Canucks' Thatcher Demko: Is week-to-week
1h agoDemko is regarded as week-to-week, coach Rick Tocchet told Thomas Drance of The Athletic on Wednesday.
Demko was a key part of the Canucks' regular-season success, posting a 35-14-2 record, 2.45 GAA and .918 save percentage in 51 contests. He also stopped 20 of 22 shots en route to a 4-2 victory over the Predators in Game 1 on Sunday. The Canucks will likely lean on Casey DeSmith during Demko's absence.
-
Tyler Myers VAN D
Canucks' Tyler Myers: Under the weather
1h agoMyers was dealing with the flu, which caused him to miss Game 2 against the Predators on Tuesday, Thomas Drance of The Athletic reports.
Myers had been rolling offensively prior to falling ill, recording five points in his last six games, including a short-handed goal. Without Myers in the lineup, Noah Juulsen stepped onto the blue line and likely will continue to fill in for Myers if he remains unavailable for Game 3 on Friday.
-
Nicolas Hague LV D
Golden Knights' Nicolas Hague: Out with lower-body issue
1h agoHague will not be available against the Stars for Game 1 on Wednesday due to a lower-body injury.
Hague was officially classified as day-to-day, so he could still be an option for Game 3 back in Dallas. Given the blueliner's 20-game pointless streak, few fantasy players figure to be overly concerned about the blueliner's status. In his stead, Alec Martinez will return to action after sitting out the previous contest as a healthy scratch.
-
Logan Thompson LV G
Golden Knights' Logan Thompson: Set to start Wednesday
1h agoThompson is expected to start on the road against Dallas in Game 2 on Wednesday, per Jesse Granger of The Athletic.
Thompson stopped 26 of 29 shots en route to a 4-3 victory over the Stars on Monday. He extended his winning streak to three contests and has allowed just six goals on 79 shots (.924 save percentage) in that span. The 27-year-old goaltender had a 25-14-5 record, 2.70 GAA and .908 save percentage in 46 regular-season outings.
-
Stuart Skinner EDM G
Oilers' Stuart Skinner: Slated to face LA
2h agoSkinner is set to start at home against the Kings for Game 2 on Wednesday, per Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 Edmonton.
Skinner allowed four goals on 37 shots versus LA on Monday, but he got plenty of goal support en route to a 7-4 victory. He's typically done better against the Kings, posting a 4-1-0 record, 2.39 GAA and .926 save percentage over five contests this year, including four regular-season outings. The Kings also left something to be desired offensively during the 2023-24 campaign, finishing in a tie for 16th offensively with 3.10 goals per contest.
