6h agoDouglas posted 61 tackles, 1.0 sacks, 14 passes defensed, five interceptions, a pick-six and three fumble recoveries over 16 regular-season games split between the Packers and Bills.
The Bills acquired Douglas from Green Bay in a Halloween trade, and the veteran played a key role in helping the Bills turn around their season and win a fourth straight AFC East title. With Buffalo losing several key pieces this offseason, Douglas will remain a clear-cut starter and locker room leader entering his eighth NFL season. He's had four-plus picks in each of the last three seasons.

14h agoPhillips (pectoral) inked a one-year deal with the Texans on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Phillips spent last year on Cleveland's injured reserve due to a torn pectoral muscle. It was his second straight season-ending pectoral injury, as the same injury ended his 2022 campaign early. The 2020 third-round pick's addition to the Texans' offseason roster indicates his health is back to up to par. He will now compete for a role at linebacker in Houston.

Wilcox now will call New England home after spending the first three campaigns of his career In Cincinnati. The 27-year-old appeared in all 17 regular-season games in 2023, mostly operating as the Bengals' No. 3 option at tight end and recording nine catches (on 12 targets) for 56 yards. If he can make the Patriots' roster this year, he'll likely be a depth option for them, too.

Holcomb suffered a significant knee injury Week 9 against the Titans that required season-ending surgery to repair. Since then, there has been speculation that the damage done was enough to keep the North Carolina product on the sidelines permanently, bringing an early end to his career. However, according to GM Omar Khan, Holcolmb is "working extremely hard to get back. I don't really have much to add on a timeline." Khan further stated, "It was a major injury, but he is working hard and I'm optimistic about all the effort he's going to put into getting back on the field."

Brandon Aiyuk SF WR49ers' Brandon Aiyuk: Discussing deal with team
18h agoGM John Lynch said Monday that the 49ers are having "good talks" with Aiyuk, who hasn't been at the team facility for the offseason program, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Aiyuk is unlikely to show up for voluntary workouts without a new contract in hand, but that doesn't necessarily mean he'll hold out from mandatory minicamp in June if the two sides haven't reached an agreement by then. The 26-year-old's agent denied reports of a trade request last weekend, and it sounds like there's still hope for a long-term contract heading into the fifth and final year of Aiyuk's rookie deal. He's scheduled to make $14.12 million under the fifth-year option, whereas a multi-year deal likely would entail a large signing bonus and an annual average value well north of $20 million. Making it work for the 2024 season isn't an issue, but the Niners may be hesitant to pay Aiyuk at market value long term when they already have six players scheduled for cap hits north of $20 million in 2025, including WR Deebo Samuel and TE George Kittle. Even then, it's a workable situation, as they've got a starting QB on a late-round-rookie contract and don't owe large sums of guaranteed money beyond the current year to anyone besides DE Nick Bosa.

19h agoThe Jets are trading Wilson to the Broncos for a late-round pick swap, Jeff Howe of The Athletic reports.
The Jets will give up the 256th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and receive pick No. 203. They'll also hold some of Wilson's salary, with the 24-year-old scheduled for $5.45 million in guaranteed compensation for the final year of his rookie contract. This could give Wilson a shot to compete for a starting job, depending on what the Broncos do in the upcoming draft. Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci are the other QBs on Denver's roster, with Stidham the favorite to start Week 1 if no early draft pick is added to the room.

20m agoThe Rangers activated Hernandez (lat) from the 15-day injured list Monday.
Hernandez got a late start to the season due to a right lat strain but is ready to roll now after allowing just three runs with a 14:4 K:BB over 10 rehab innings with Triple-A Round Rock. The righty could eventually work his way into high-leverage situations but will probably be used earlier in games initially.

26m agoVivas (eye) has been activated from the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Vivas suffered an orbital fracture late in spring training but is now ready for game action. The 23-year-old utility player is on the 40-man roster and could eventually push for his first big-league promotion this season.

2h agoGonzalez has an 11.12 ERA and 2.88 WHIP over three appearances (two starts) at Double-A Portland.
Control has long been a challenge for Gonzalez, who is showing it to be more so at the start of the 2024 season. He walked eight batters over his first two starts -- he lasted just two-thirds of an inning in his second start -- and has nine overall in 5.2 innings. The right-hander had an encouraging third outing Sunday, when he walked only one over three scoreless innings as a piggyback starter.

3h agoCasas (rib) underwent an MRI on Monday that confirmed the expectation that he'll be out for a significant length of time, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.
The Red Sox haven't placed a timetable on Casas' return, but it seems likely he'll blow past the 10-day minimum on the injured list. For now, the team plans to get by with a combination of Bobby Dalbec, Pablo Reyes and possibly Rob Refsnyder, who has been working at the position since the start of spring training. Another option is for Boston to wait and see what happens after May 1, when several players could exercise opt-out clauses.

22m agoSuggs said after Monday's 96-86 loss to the Cavaliers that he doesn't think his sprained left knee injury will keep him from playing Thursday in Game 3 of the series, Josh Robbins of The Athletic reports.
Suggs suffered the injury in the first quarter Monday, when he collapsed to the floor after making contact with Cleveland's Donovan Mitchell. He grabbed at his leg in visible pain after the play and didn't put any weight on his leg as he was assisted to the locker room, but he was able to return to the contest after halftime while sporting a compression sleeve on his leg. He ended up playing well down the stretch, finishing with nine points (2-5 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 5-7 FT), six rebounds, five assists and one steal in 29 minutes. Adrenaline might have played a part in Suggs feeling well enough to return, so the Magic will wait and see how his knee responds over the next two days before deciding whether he's fit to play in Game 3 with the Magic facing a 2-0 series deficit.

Oubre's unproductive evening marked his second consecutive subpar performance in the quarterfinals. He joined a mediocre group of starters who scored only 22 points compared to the 69 points accrued by Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. Improved stat lines from Oubre will be necessary for the Sixers to even the series at home.

Embiid showed no ill effects fro his lingering knee injury and logged a dull load in the loss, but his prolific line wasn't enough to turn the tide. Embiid and Tyrese Maxey got no help from their teammates as the rest of the roster ended with fewer points than Embiid alone.

2h agoMaxey notched 35 points (12-22 FG, 5-11 3Pt, 6-6 FT), nine rebounds and 10 assists in 44 minutes during Monday's 104-101 loss to the Knicks in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
Maxey scored 15 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter and was the primary catalyst in a massive rally that erased the Knicks' lead. His three pointer with 1:09 remaining appeared to seal a Game 2 win for the Sixers, but New York's defense turned the tables in the end. Although Joel Embiid is rounding back into form, Maxey's produtcion will be essential to get the team back into the series. The Maxey-Embiid duo also needs help from the rest of the supporting cast, who only scored 32 total points in the loss.

2h agoBrunson posted 24 points (8-29 FG, 1-6 3Pt, 7-9 FT), eight rebounds and six assists over 38 minutes during Monday's 104-101 win over the 76ers in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
A productive night at the charity stripe and decent secondary production helped to mask Brunson's dreadful shooting night. The usually prolific guard has converted only 29.1 percent of his shots in the quarterfinals, and although the Knicks have pulled off a 2-0 lead amid the slump, the team's outlook will be much better if his shooting stroke gets back on track.

Hart enjoyed another heroic stat line after posting a 22/13 double-double in Game 1. Jalen Brunson's shooting slump has rendered Hart as the most consistent producer for New York in the quarterfinals, and his 19 first-half points kept the team relevant

Zacha roused the home crowd with a spinning backhand pass to David Pastrnak for a one-timer that goalie Ilya Samsonov had virtually no chance of stopping. Unfortunately for Bruins fans, the top-line center was otherwise quiet in the contest, and Zacha's full minute on the man advantage didn't bear fruit. This is the lone playoff series with the teams tied, 1-1, after two games.

2h agoBertuzzi emerged with a power-play assist in Monday's 3-2 win over the Bruins for Game 2 of the conference quarterfinals.
Bertuzzi, who was with Boston this time last year, nearly had a two-point night, but what initially appeared to be a power-play tally from the winger ended up getting overturned since he had the puck with a high stick during the play. Still, in a matter of minutes, he found John Tavares with a primary apple on the man advantage for the game-tying goal. Bertuzzi's fiery playing style works well in a playoff setting, but it will be important for him to stay aggressive without losing his cool and getting whistled for costly penalties.

Laferriere made an impact in his first playoff game -- he was tied for the team lead in hits and shots. The 22-year-old received a top-line assignment at even strength but saw just 11:29 of ice time. Laferriere had 23 points, 113 hits and 147 shots on net in 81 regular-season contests, so he should be able to provide some depth scoring in the postseason.

7h agoDoughty recorded an assist, two blocked shots and a minus-2 rating in Monday's 7-4 loss to the Oilers in Game 1.
Doughty has six points over 10 contests since the start of April. The 34-year-old defenseman has plenty of playoff experience, and he's still capable of eating big minutes on the top pairing. Doughty averaged 25:48 of ice time per game this season, earning 15 goals, 35 assists, 142 blocked shots, 109 hits and a plus-15 rating in 82 appearances. He's still a workhorse, and he's reliable enough to be effective in all zones.

Byfield set up an Adrian Kempe tally in the second period. An unsteady end to the campaign saw Byfield pick up two points in the regular-season finale following a 19-game goal drought in which he earned six assists. The 21-year-old had 55 points over 80 contests overall, but it's possible he's feeling the wear and tear of a full-length NHL season, which could limit his effectiveness in the playoffs.

Arvidsson helped out on a Mikey Anderson goal in the second period. With seven points over his last five contests, Arvidsson is carrying some momentum on offense into the postseason. He was limited to 18 regular-season games but still produced 15 points and 59 shots on net, making him a solid depth option for fantasy playoff competitions.
