Amon-Ra St. Brown DET WRLions' Amon-Ra St. Brown: Signing massive extension
9m agoSt. Brown and the Lions reached agreement Tuesday on a four-year extension, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
The initial report has it as a $120 million deal, including $77 million guaranteed. If those numbers hold up when more details come out, St. Brown will tie Tyreek Hill's WR record for average annual value ($30 million) and have the stand-alone record for money guaranteed. Of course, he probably won't hold those records for long, as the list of star WRs nearing the end of their rookie contracts includes Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb and Ja'Marr Chase. In any case, St. Brown has improved his receiving volume and fantasy production with each passing season in the NFL, and he should have another big year in 2024 while catching passes from QB Jared Goff in an offense that will be coordinated by Ben Johnson for at least one more season.

2h agoThe Steelers aren't expected to pick up the fifth-year option on Fields' rookie contract, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
It perhaps goes without saying, given that Fields is coming in as the second QB on the depth chart and would be guaranteed around $25.66 million in 2025 if the Steelers were to pick up his option before the May 2 deadline. While the team may have interest in keeping him around beyond the upcoming season, it won't be at that price before he's ever put on a Steelers uniform. Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports that fellow offseason acquisition Russell Wilson will enter offseason workouts in "pole position" at quarterback, with Fields then getting a chance to compete at some point in the future, according to coach Mike Tomlin. Fields is on track to be a free agent next spring, and his playing time between now and then seems largely dependent on Wilson struggling.

20h agoCorbett (knee) participated during Tuesday's voluntary workout, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.
Corbett closed out the 2023 campaign on IR after suffering a knee injury in a Week 11 loss to the Cowboys. His ability to take part in drills Tuesday suggests the Nevada product's knee is well healed as Carolina begins preparation for the upcoming season.

Amare Barno CAR LBPanthers' Amare Barno: Still dealing with injury
20h agoBarno (knee) is not participating in voluntary workouts Tuesday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Barno finished out the 2023 campaign on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury Week 16 against the Packers. Although it's not clear what specifically the injury was or how much longer it may affect him, it appears to still be a big enough issue that the Virginia Tech product is not taking part in drills. Luckily, for the Barno and the Panthers, training camp is still about three months away.

Isaiah Rodgers PHI CBEagles' Isaiah Rodgers: Restrictions lifted
20h agoRodgers was reinstated by the NFL on Tuesday after he was suspended for the 2023 season for violating the NFL's gambling policy, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Rodgers was originally suspended in June of 2023 after making bets on NFL games, which led to him being waived by the Colts. Despite the suspension, the UMass product inked a new deal with the Eagles two months later. With his suspension lifted, Rodgers will now be able to participate in all team activities for the first time since he signed with Philadelphia.

Patrick Surtain II DEN CBBroncos' Patrick Surtain: Has fifth-year option picked up
20h agoThe Broncos picked up the fifth-year option on Surtain's rookie contract Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
The ninth overall pick in the 2021 Draft, Surtain so far has met expectations in his three-year career, earning back-to-back Pro Bowl appearances the last two seasons and even first-team All-Pro honors in his second campaign. Overall, he has seven interceptions among 36 pass defenses in 50 regular-season contests while averaging 63.6 tackles per 17 games played, making him a respectable option in IDP formats. With Tuesday's transaction, Surtain now is locked in in Denver through the 2025 season.

Ryne Nelson ARI SPDiamondbacks' Ryne Nelson: Slated for bullpen session
6m agoDiamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Nelson (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.
Nelson went on the 15-day injured list last week after being struck on the pitching elbow by a comebacker. He appears to be making a quick recovery, and he could have a shot to return when first eligible for activation May 4 or shortly thereafter.

Sixto Sanchez MIA RPMarlins' Sixto Sanchez: Set to open Wednesday's game
21m agoSanchez is scheduled to start Wednesday's game in Atlanta, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
The 25-year-old right-hander will be making his first MLB start since Oct. 8, 2020, when he faced Atlanta in Game 3 of the National League Division Series. After missing most of the ensuing three seasons while recovering from shoulder problems, Sanchez has been healthy thus far in 2024 while operating in a relief role for Miami, producing a 6.14 ERA and 1.50 WHIP over 7.1 innings. He hasn't recorded more than six outs in any of his seven appearances, so Sanchez shouldn't be expected to work more than two or three innings before turning the game over to the bullpen. If Miami doesn't add another pitcher to its active roster ahead of Wednesday's contest, Kyle Tyler -- who has yet to make his 2024 MLB debut but covered 3.1 innings in his last appearance for Triple-A Jacksonville on April 14 -- would appear to be the most logical option to work behind Sanchez in bulk relief.

He made an early exit from Tuesday's loss to Arizona with lingering left hand soreness, although Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said afterward that Contreras' removal had more to do with the lopsided score. Contreras intends to continue playing through discomfort but might see more reps at DH than catcher, opening up starts behind the plate for Ivan Herrera.

While his path to regular playing time against right-handed pitching has opened up a bit with Jordan Walker getting optioned to Triple-A Memphis earlier Wednesday, the lefty-hitting Burleson is still projected to sit regularly against lefties. Burleson's absence from the lineup Wednesday thus comes as little surprise with southpaw Jordan Montgomery on the hill for Arizona.

35m agoLipscomb has joined the Nationals' taxi squad and could be called up from Triple-A Rochester prior to Wednesday's game against the Dodgers, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
Outfielder Lane Thomas is getting an MRI on his left knee after exiting Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Dodgers, and the expectation is that he'll require a trip to the injured list. Lipscomb put up a .563 OPS with one home run and four stolen bases over 14 games with the Nationals earlier this month. He could see action at third base if the club elects to use Nick Senzel in the outfield or in the designated hitter spot in place of Thomas.

35m agoGibaut (forearm) will resume his rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
Gibaut experienced renewed discomfort in his forearm following his most recent rehab appearance April 16, but fortunately for the right-hander, a week off was seemingly all he needed to bounce back from the setback. Since opening the season on the 15-day injured list, Gibaut has made five rehab appearances between Louisville and High-A Dayton, giving up five earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out seven over 4.1 innings.

1h agoLively contributed seven points (2-5 FG, 3-6 FT), nine rebounds, one assist and one steal in 21 minutes during Tuesday's 96-93 win over the Clippers in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.
Daniel Gafford started this game, but he was ineffective in just nine minutes of action and left the game briefly due to a back injury. Lively had more success, obviously, but he didn't get a ton of burn either, as Maxi Kleber and P.J. Washington soaked up the bulk of the frontcourt minutes. The logjam at center is far from ideal for fantasy purposes for both Gafford and Lively.

Anderson carried a questionable tag into Game 2 after picking up a hip injury in Game 1, but despite being cleared to play, Anderson never left the bench. Instead, Minnesota rolled with an eight-man rotation with Nickeil Alexander-Walker playing 31 minutes off the bench, while Anthony Edwards (38) and Jaden McDaniels (41) also played heavy minutes on the wing.

4h agoLopez recorded 22 points (8-13 FG, 6-7 3Pt), three assists, two blocks and one rebound in 29 minutes in Tuesday's 125-108 loss to the Pacers in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
Though Lopez drilled a season-high six three-pointers, his rebound production was conspicuously absent. His one rebound matched a season low for Lopez, who has seen a noticeable drop in the category during his 16th NBA campaign.

4h agoPortis supplied 14 points (6-16 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-3 FT), 11 rebounds, two assists and one steal across 30 minutes during Tuesday's 125-108 loss to Indiana in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
Although Portis didn't come anywhere near Giannis Antetokounmpo's (calf) usual production, the former is doing enough to keep the interior afloat. Portis is expected to play at least one more game as Antetokounmpo's fill-in, but he'll need to keep the double-doubles coming. The Bucks' playoff fortunes will fade rapidly without a stronger response to Pascal Siakam and Myles Turner in the paint.

Damian Lillard MIL PGBucks' Damian Lillard: Scores team-high 34 points in loss
4h agoLillard totaled 34 points (10-21 FG, 6-13 3Pt, 8-9 FT), four rebounds, five assists and one steal in 39 minutes during Tuesday's 125-108 loss to the Pacers in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
Lillard followed up his 35-point performance in Game 1 with another solid number, but his stellar play wasn't enough this time. His supporting cast was much less effective in Game 2, and Giannis Antetokounmpo's (calf) missing output continues to plague the offense. Lillard's excellent start to the postseason is no surprise, as he's averaged 29.5 points, 6.2 assists and 4.5 rebounds over 62 playoff games in his career.

4h agoHaliburton provided 12 points (4-10 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 1-2 FT), four rebounds, 12 assists, one block and one steal in 37 minutes during Tuesday's 125-108 victory over the Bucks in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
Although Haliburton's former reputation as a prolific scorer has faded throughout the season, his skill as a facilitator is as strong as ever. The Pacers could use a dose of Haliburton's former shot volume as they attempt to advance, but recent trends show that big scoring numbers for the guard may not be coming. He's now gone four consecutive games with 20 points or less and has exceeded that number only four times over his past 10 games.

Jeremy Swayman BOS GBruins' Jeremy Swayman: Leaves ice first Wednesday
8m agoSwayman was the first goalie off the ice Wednesday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports, indicating he'll tend the twine on the road for Game 3 against the Maple Leafs.
Swayman was fantastic in Game 1, stopping 35 of 36 shots in a victory over Toronto. Despite his strong performance, the Bruins stuck to their goalie rotation, going with Linus Ullmark for Game 2. If the 25-year-old Swayman puts together another winning effort, he could force coach Jim Montgomery to reconsider his rotational approach.

Ilya Sorokin NYI GIslanders' Ilya Sorokin: Expected starter for Thursday
9m agoSorokin is set to start at home against Carolina on Thursday, per Andrew Gross of Newsday.
Sorokin had a 25-19-12 record, 3.01 GAA and .908 save percentage in 56 regular-season appearances this season. Semyon Varlamov was in net for the first two contests of the Islanders' playoff series and initially appeared to be the projected starter for Game 3 after being the first goaltender off the ice following Wednesday's morning skate, but coach Patrick Roy indicated that New York will make a change in goal. Carolina has a 2-0 series lead and has outscored the Islanders 8-4.

Carter Verhaeghe FLA CPanthers' Carter Verhaeghe: Two points including OT winner
23m agoVerhaeghe scored the overtime winner and added an assist in Game 2 during a 3-2 victory over the Lightning on Tuesday.
After helping to set up Sam Bennett (upper body) for the night's opening tally early in the first period, Verhaeghe played hero for the Panthers once again. The 28-year-old has begun Florida's postseason run with two goals and three points in two games, and he'll look to stay hot on the road Thursday in Game 3.

Sergei Bobrovsky FLA GPanthers' Sergei Bobrovsky: Dazzles in Game 2 win
26m agoBobrovsky made 21 saves Tuesday in a 3-2 overtime win over the Lightning in Game 2 of the Panthers' first-round series.
The Bolts struck twice early in the second period, once on the power play, but otherwise Bobrovsky has an answer for everything they fired at him -- including an impossible stop later in the middle frame when the goalie dove across the crease with his back to Matthew Dumba, as the Tampa defenseman shot the puck toward a seemingly open net. Bobrovsky has allowed four goals on 42 shots to begin the playoffs, and including the end of the regular season he's 5-0-1 over his last six outings with a 1.46 GAA and .942 save percentage. He'll look to stay locked in Thursday on the road for Game 3.

Victor Hedman TB DLightning's Victor Hedman: Two helpers in OT loss
35m agoHedman picked up two assists, one on the power play, in Game 2's 3-2 overtime loss to the Panthers on Tuesday.
All of Tampa Bay's scoring came in the first six minutes of the second period, as the team was otherwise stifled by Sergei Bobrovsky. Hedman had managed only one multi-point performance in the prior 15 games, including Game 1, but he'd been a consistent contributor with a goal and 10 points. The Bolts may need the 33-year-old blueliner to find another gear if they're going to bounce back from an 0-2 deficit in the series.

Andrei Vasilevskiy TB GLightning's Andrei Vasilevskiy: Out-dueled in Game 2
39m agoVasilevskiy turned aside 34 shots Tuesday in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Panthers in Game 2 of the Lightning's first-round series.
In another outstanding battle between two former Vezina Trophy winners, Vasilevskiy was again out-dueled by Sergei Bobrovsky as Tampa Bay fell into an 0-2 hole to begin the series. Vasilevskiy has given up six goals on 64 shots so far in the playoffs, and he actually has only one win in his last six starts dating back to the end of the regular season, posting a 3.40 GAA over that stretch. He'll try to turn things around on home ice in Game 3 on Thursday.
