Louisiana State University has put out many great players in recent years and outside linebacker Barkevious Mingo will continue that tradition. Of the many quality pass-rushers available in this year's draft class, Mingo has the most explosive first step. His acceleration is among the elite. Mingo is at his best when he can focus his play downhill. Using long arms and a deceptive strength, he can use rip and bull rush techniques to get after the quarterback. One unique problem he has is that he is so quick off the edge that he will sometimes go after the quarterback recklessly, causing him to miss the big play. Against the run, he has a long way to go. He will require a year or two to add bulk to his frame and he will continue to fill out in his first few years in the league. One tricky aspect of scouting Mingo is that LSU uses a rotation along their defensive line because of incredible depth. Doesn't have great straight line speed and lacks a legit second gear to recover from his misreads. Below-average height and average leaping ability will create issues in going up for 50/50 balls. Takes good pursuit angles downfield. Above-average hands. Still developing in run support. Long arms help him take-on blockers well. Shows lack of strength as a tackler. Needs to learn how to disengage more quickly, keep his arm and shoulder open for contact. Fundamentals when breaking down in open space for tackles also needs work. McFadden projects as a third to fourth round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.... [Read More]
Notre Dame strong safety Jamoris Slaughter is a versatile player who could play at a couple different spots in a defensive secondary. He has played safety, but he also has the coverage skills to play corner. Very physical player. Plays bigger than his size. Could struggle if asked to cover bigger, athletic tight ends. Tore Achilles tendon early in senior season. Lacks a ball-hawk mentality and below-average hands. Aggressive style of play will occasionally find him overextended or out of position.... [Read More]
