2013 NFL Mock Draft
Round 1 of 1
In the end Jadeveon Clowney just has too much talent to pass on. I believe they may trade back and grab Teddy Bridgewater, but if they pick at 1 they go Clowney and grab a QB with the pick 33.
Regardless of who's throwing the ball, the Rams biggest issue is protecting the QB and if they don't no one will be healthy enough to make it through a season anyway. They found the RB in Zac Stacy and have enough invested in Tavon Austin at WR. With a much improved defense lead by a ferocious pass rush, the biggest glaring hole is at O-line, particularly pass protection.
With long time staple MJD gone and Justin Blackmon's drug issues the Jags need a guy that can make plays on his own and as much as they refuse to acknowledge it, they need to draw interest and put fans in the seats. Along with Jadeveon Clowney no one in the first round will draw more attention. Manziel is the most polarizing figure in college football since Tim Tebow.
Adding Sammy Watkins to that passing game could give them possibly the best group of young pass catchers in the NFL. (FORESHADOWING ALERT) Now if only they had someone to throw them the ball.
Poor Khalil Mack, poor poor Khalil Mack. Hopefully he can survive that 4 year rookie contract. What did he do to deserve this?
The Falcons, much like the Texans, had a disappointing season but aren't that far from being a contender. Their biggest hole is in the secondary. If they don't trade back, this spot might be too high for them to take a defensive back and too hard to pass on a potential dominant OT. This team needs to revive their running game and protect Matt Ryan. This would be a big step in getting them back to the offensive power house we're used to seeing in Atlanta.
Evans is the best player available, simple as that. After shockingly good speed at the combine, there are really no more questions. I believe he's the best WR in this draft.
They have the great RB, they have the young WR, they desperately need someone that can move the ball down field. As bad as they need defense, they are one year removed from the playoffs and can't pass up on a franchise quarterback. Imagine what Adrian Peterson could do if teams had to respect the pass?
With a team full of speed receivers they need a big guy that can pull the ball down in a crowd. With a strong D, young QB and solid running game, Ebron might just be that missing piece. He will be an elite TE and the best prospect at TE I can remember in a long long time.
The Lions have openly acknowledged their desire to acquire a pass rushing OLB in the draft. No one fits that role more than Barr. They can draft Barr in the first and with a very deep WR group, they can draft the secondary option to line-up opposite of Megatron that they've been searching for for years.
The Titans have to be sick of their QB getting hurt every year and their former running back, CJ2K, getting hit behind the line of scrimmage on seemingly every other play. The Titans have to shore up that O-Line before they can move forward as a franchise. Regardless of who their RB or QB will be, somebody has to block for them so Lewan makes sense.
The Giants have a handful of needs on both sides of the ball. For years, the Giants bread and butter is getting at the QB. Over the past 2 years that pass rush has rapidly declined. Osi left for Atlanta, Justin Tuck is now trapped in a black hole, and with JPP's sub-par season and health issues, the Giants need to return to their identity. Donald is the perfect replacement for long time staple Justin Tuck. A bit undersized but he makes up for it with explosion and athleticism.
The Rams have a great front 7 but still need help in that secondary. A potential top corner can go a long way in their hunt for the playoffs. What a draft so far!
Stopping the run is clearly their biggest need. With questions surrounding Jernigan and his failed drug test, I believe the Bears will opt for Nix. If the Bears can stop the run, they are a super bowl contender, it's as simple as that.
Pittsburgh needs help in the secondary, O-line, and at WR. I believe they opt to address the secondary first, then grab a WR in the 2nd.
Dallas has to do something about that secondary and that defense in general. Clinton-Dix is a high profile super talented safety that will slip due to character issues. He fits the profile Jerry Jones always looks for. With the recent success of Dez Bryant I don't see Jerry Jones passing on Clinton-Dix.
