2008 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Yvenson Bernard, RB, Oregon State

Bernard is a patient runner; he does a great job of reading blocks and shows good cut back ability. Bernard does take some false steps, but explodes through the hole. He does not have great size for a running back in the NFL. But, in spite of the size issue, Bernard appears to get better with each carry and can carry a heavy workload. He shows good body control and can juke the first defender. He also has the burst to get outside and shows a second gear to create separation. He catches the ball well and is a good safety valve for his quarterback. He has experience returning kickoffs as well as punts and can contribute on special teams. Bernard finished with 1,037 yards in 10 games this year. Bernard has fought injuries throughout his career at Oregon State and this could scare some scouts. Bernard's combine numbers were very disappointing. He ran a slow forty yard dash at 4.83. Bernard will really have to wow a team if he is given an opportunity in a private workout. He will likely not be drafted until the 6th or 7th round (if at all).
