2008 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person

Beau Bell, ILB, UNLV

Bell started his career playing all eleven games in his freshman season. In 2005 he started seven games and at the end of the season was named second team All-MWC. His junior campaign was marked by injury, playing in only seven games. He returned to form in 2007 when he compiled 126 tackles, forced five fumbles, made four interceptions (returning one for TD) and made three sacks. He was awarded the MWC Defensive Player of the Year trophy and went on to become one the school's four invitee to the Senior Bowl. Bell is very athletic with a good combination of size and speed (4.60-65). He is quick to read and react and is able to change direction quickly because he is an intuitive player. Bell is a reliable tackle and has closed quickly on ball carriers, possessing enough speed to cover tight ends in man to man coverage. He shows good burst of his blocks, is a sideline-to-sideline player and is effective on blitzes. He has discipline, plays within the assigned system, but he could show better awareness in zone coverage. Durability is an issue(he has struggled with some injuries), so he can be worn down when runners attack him. Bell has intriguing physical skills. He could play inside or outside in the NFL. He's a very good in man coverage, but does need improved coaching to reach its potential. His injury history is of concern, but overall is a very solid football player with an above average pro ceiling. Bell should be drafted in the early to mid second round; Senior Bowl practices and game performance could influence his draft status.
