2008 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Early Doucet, WR, LSU

Doucet came into the 2007 season with the chance to finally be the go-to receiver for LSU after playing behind future first-round picks Dwayne Bowe and Craig Davis. However, a groin injury sidelined him for five games and LSU quarterback Matt Flynn struggled at times, both of which limited Doucet's production. He had a season-high 93 receiving yards against Auburn on seven receptions and has totaled 474 receiving yards. He was limited to four touchdowns. Doucet proved more effective as a complimentary receiver, as he had 59 catches for 772 yards and eight touchdowns in 2006 -- all second-best team totals. But he has the size and frame to be physical with NFL corners and also has a quick burst. Scouts also love his ability to create problems after the catch. He's not only difficult to bring down, but has good field vision. He also helps the running game with his blocking skills. He was named second-team All-SEC as a return specialist in 2006, which gives him added value. There is some concern his 4.5 speed will give him trouble getting separation and there is some question about his route running. His injury isn't likely to be a concern for NFL teams, but his lack of experience as a No. 1 receiver may be. Most scouts project him being a No. 2 or working from the slot and being a possession receiver. He could go late in the first round of the 2008 draft, but is more likely a second-round selection.
