2009 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

P.J. Hill, RB, Wisconsin

P.J. Hill is a red shirt junior that reminds a lot of people of fellow Badger Ron Dayne. Hill is a big back that punishes defenders on his runs, often applying a bigger hit to defenders than they apply to him. He had a solid freshmen season, registering 1569 yards (a 5 yards per carry average) and 15 touchdowns in 2006. Hill followed that up in 2007 by rushing for 1212 yards (a 5.2 yards per carry average) and 14 touchdowns in 2007, despite missing time with injuries. Some GMs may question Hill's durability, but he played last season at a lower weight than his freshman year, and discovered it wasn't to his benefit. Now back up to his playing weight of 236 pounds, Hill's 770 career carries in three years should ease some executives' minds. Hill may remind many of Dayne, but he appears to be a much better prospect. He has better lateral quickness and runs with as much power as his mentor. Hill has quick feet and excellent vision. He always finds the best hole to run through. He has even seen his role in the passing game become more prominent as his hands and blocking improve. Hill finished his junior season with 1161 yards and 13 touchdowns, averaging over 5 yards per carry for the third straight year. The consistency with which he has produced in college is amazing considering how bad the Wisconsin passing game has been during his 3 seasons. Hill is not an elite running back, but he could be an effective short yardage back in the NFL. He could be a nice compliment to a shiftier starting back, but probably won't warrant any consideration until the later parts of the fifth round.
