2008 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Dre Moore, DT, Maryland

Dre Moore has all the physical tools to be a dominating force in the NFL. He can chase down rushers with his speed, break blocks with his strength and use his big body to power through just about anybody. During his senior season, Moore led Maryland with six sacks and added on 8.5 tackles for loss and an interception. As a junior, he tallied 7.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and 47 tackles. At 6-4 and 311 pounds, Dre Moore is tall for an interior lineman. However, that height can cause some problems. Moore's technique needs some fine tuning and he tends to not get down on blocks due to his size. He hasn't been playing organized football for very long, so improvement is very possible. If he can develop his awareness and instincts, Moore will be a solid NFL player. Moore's inconsistencies will drop him down into the second or third round, but he has so much more potential than that. His combine numbers will likely be very good and somebody will take a chance on him, but thus far Moore has not lived up to his to his immense potential. It will take some time, but Moore could become a dominating defensive tackle eventually. 2/28 Update: Dre Moore was one of a few defensive tackles who improved their stock at the NFL Combine. Moore ran a solid 4.88 40, which is not bad at all for a tackle. He also ranked among the top d-lineman in the bench press. It was nothing too surprising at the Combine, but at least he proved that he has those physical tools. Talking to coaches and proving that he is willing to work on his technique is more important than any of the numbers. 3/21 Update: Dre Moore opted to let his Combine numbers do the talking during Maryland's Pro Day. He did, however, participate in position drills and has started to peak the interest of some teams who need a little help with their interior line. Moore still might be a little bit of a project, but that will not stop anybody from taking a chance on his potential. It might be the great buzz word of all sports, but Moore fits the bill of a player with plenty of potential.
