2008 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Reggie Campbell, RB, Navy

Campbell is a three year full time player at the Naval Academy. He did not play a lot during his freshman season in 2004, but became a full time starter in his sophomore campaign. He started 12 of 12 games in 2005, rushing for 514 on 57 attempts and scoring seven touchdowns. He also made 12 grabs for 314 yards and two TDs. Campbell started all thirteen games for Navy in 2006, accounting for a career best 706 yards on 99 attempts. He scored five rushing and two receiving TDs. In 2007, Campbell rushed 71 times for 522 yards and five TDs. He also recorded 13 receptions for 242 yards and four additional TDs. Campbell is instinctive and fast (4.42-40), making him very quick. He possesses a second gear and runs with surprisingly good vision. With a smooth change of direction, he is elusive in the open field. He protects the ball well (did not have a fumble lost during his career). He is a capable receiver out of the backfield, with good (not great) hands. He has shown good route running technique and will extend his hands to catch balls out of his body. But, he is short and needs to add weight and strength. Also, his durability is a concern at the next level. He will be a third down back-type of player. An interesting player, Campbell has shown enough talent to merit a closer look. But, his lack of size is the biggest concern. He is strictly a change of pace back and is worth a pick late in the second day.
