2008 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person

Eric Young, OL, Tennessee

Young was hampered early in the 2007 season by an ankle injury, then had his campaign halted after just eight games when he suffered a torn quadriceps muscle in his left leg. He made a huge impact when on the field at left tackle. In 495 offensive snaps, Young totaled 58 knockdowns, with 11 blocks that led directly to a touchdown. He didn't allow a quarterback sack or pressure in any of his starts. He was the leader of the offensive line, which allowed just four sacks in 2007. His performance earned him All-Southeastern Conference second-team honors from the Associated Press. Young proved his versatility this year by moving from right tackle -- which he played throughout the 2006 season. That figures to add to his draft value. However, most scouts project him to be a guard in the NFL, but his experience at tackle should help him make the transition. Scouts like his agility to adjust to defenders and block their moves and he's strong enough to handle a bull rush. Young still has to prove he has the strength to drive defenders off the ball. Young doesn't project to be a superstar in the NFL. However, he has the tools to be a solid player for many seasons. He may be a steal in the draft if his injury prevents him from showing his potential at the combine. Unless serious questions arise about his health, he figures to be off the board by the end of the third round.
