2008 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Bobbie Williams, SS, Bethune-Cookman

Williams redshirted in 2003, then started five of ten games in 2004 (making 58 tackles while picking up one pass). In 2005, he started nine of the team's eleven games. He made 52 tackles and six interceptions and was named to All-Mid Eastern Athletic Conference First Team. Williams had an impressive junior campaign, getting 75 tackles and five interceptions and was again a first team conference selection. In 2007, he had a career record in tackles with 77 and posted two additional interceptions, being voted to the FCS All American First Team squad. Williams posses a good football frame and is a good overall athlete. He is a relatively fast (4.55-40), Tough and aggressive player. Williams is instinctive, able to read and react quickly; He has the instincts to play in zone coverage and the necessary speed to cover backs and tight ends. With good hands, he plays the ball well in the air and also comes quickly in run support. He takes good pursuing angles, but can be too overly aggressive. He bites too much on play fakes and lacks consistence. Other negatives being that Williams is slow to shed blockers, he loses focus at times and he can have a limited range. Williams needs to play under control and within the defensive system. A project, Williams is a nice prospect for a small division football program. He needs lots of coaching. He is a gambler, but is not fast enough to cover his mistakes. He will not induce fear with his hits and his level of competition is a big concern. Williams is projected to be drafted in the later stages of the draft, but he should be a premium free agent. But he does not posses the necessary set of skills to develop into a top pro athlete at this stage.
