2008 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Jacob Tamme, TE, Kentucky

Tamme burst on the scene by leading all Southeastern Conference tight ends with 32 receptions for 386 yards and two touchdowns his junior campaign, which earned him first-team All-SEC honors from The Associated Press and the league coaches. He followed that up with an even more impressive senior season. He totaled 56 receptions for 619 yards and six TDs and he was again voted to the All-SEC first team by the AP and coaches. Tamme has pretty good speed -- runs the 40-yard dash in 4.60 seconds -- which helps him get separation from linebackers and gain yards after the catch. He has good hands that allow him to catch nearly any ball he can get his hands on and his body control is above average. He provides versatility, having operated out of the slot and as a wideout, which was his position when he arrived in Lexington. He's also got a work ethic scouts love. He'll have to get stronger to compete in the NFL. But he does have the frame to add bulk. His lack of size hurts his blocking skills, with him often ineffectively holding off defensive linemen. He'll have to become much more physical. He doesn't get off the ball as quickly as scouts would like. His receiving skills will draw teams' interest, but he doesn't have the all-around game scouts love. He projects to be a mid-to-late round NFL Draft selection.
