2008 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Ben Moffitt, ILB, South Florida

As a redshirt freshman, Moffitt started five games, making 23 total tackles, three of which were for loss. He became a full-time starter as a sophomore in 2005, and responded with a breakout year, posting 96 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and four forced fumbles in a dozen games. He had another big season as a junior, cracking the century mark in tackles with 112 and he had 11 TFL, four sacks, seven QB hurries, and a forced fumble. As a senior, Moffitt was one of the stars of USF's defense once again, making 104 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, four interceptions, five pass breakups, four QB hurries, and two fumble recoveries. He also had one interception return for a touchdown during a season where he was a semifinalist for the Butkus Award, a quarter finalist for the Lott Trophy, and a third-team All-American. Moffitt isn't a big guy at 6'1, 234, but he's got good speed and agility and he's got good strength as well. He posted good times of 4.21 and 6.75 seconds in the 20-yard shuttle and 3-cone drill at the combine, while benching 225 pounds 23 times. After not running the 40 at the combine, Moffitt ran in the 4.5s at his Pro Day, timing well for a linebacker. There is a pretty big question mark surrounding Moffitt and it doesn't have anything to do with his talent. His wife, who he was married to for five years and had two children with before filing for divorce in January, said that she and her sister wrote several papers for him during his collegiate career, according to a Tampa newspaper. Will that hurt him? There's no papers to write on the next level, but it could still be a concern to a team. Still, it shouldn't prevent him from being drafted, as he could go anywhere from the middle rounds to the last couple of rounds.
