2008 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Jermichael Finley, TE, Texas

After playing only two seasons at Texas, Finley elected to pursue his pro dreams. While he would have been better served by staying in school at least one more season, he has the potential to be a success on the next level. In 2006, Finley caught 31 passes for 372 yards and three touchdowns, and upped those totals to 45 catches for 575 yards, and two of his receptions were for touchdowns. Finley was a receiver in high school, but bulked up to make the move to tight end in college, and he projects to fit better in an offense that utilizes the tight ends regularly in the passing game, like Kansas City, Green Bay, and Dallas do. His combine performance left something to be desired, as he ran a disappointing 4.82. However, he lowered it to 4.66 at Texas' Pro Day a month later. He's got the chance to be a productive player in the NFL, as he has the tools to be a quality receiver, and the potential to bulk up and not be a liability as a blocker. He'll likely slot in somewhere in the third or fourth round, behind the likes of Fred Davis, Dustin Keller, and Martellus Bennett (like Bennett, Finley was a hoops star in high school), but he could slide into the late second/early third range if he's drafted based on potential. This is a guy who could have been a first-rounder if he had stayed for even just one more season, so if he's eased into the pro game, there's no reason for him to not flourish.
