Clinton McDonalds Scouting Report

2009 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Clinton McDonalds, DT, Memphis
McDonald rarely played during his true freshman campaign of 2005, but he did record six tackles. In 2006, he started ten of twelve games for the Tigers, where he made 41 tackles (two of them for loss), he broke one pass and recorded one and a half sacks. Prior to the 2007 season, McDonald was named team captain. He went on to start all of the team's thirteen games, recording 55 tackles (nine for loss), with four sacks and two forced fumbles. Another athletic defensive tackle from a small school. Big frame and fast (4.72) for his size. Moves very well laterally and is good in pursuit. Smart player who is always willing to learn. A leader on and off of the field. Needs more bulk and upper body strength. Needs to play with more of a mean streak. Can be overwhelmed at the point. Is not a three down player. Technique needs work. This year's DT class is weak at the top, so McDonald has a real chance to slip into the upper part of the Draft (maybe as high as the third round). He is an impressive athlete who needs time to develop. He projects as a two down, tweener-type of DT/DE combo in the NFL.
