It only took three games for Myron Rolle to become the starting rover at Florida State. He has not given up that role since, until he opted to forgo his senior season at FSU and become a Rhode Scholar instead. As a freshman, Rolle was third on the team in tackles and named to a variety of Freshman All-American teams. As a sophomore Rolle was one of the few consistent players on the FSU defense and that continued into his junior campaign. Rolle has a lot of positives about his game. He is as smart on the field as he is in the classroom, which is pretty smart. He has great instincts and always seems to be around the ball, but his best assets are a little easier to notice. Rolle, at 6-2 and 218 pounds has great size and strength. He defends the pass extremely well and has the quickness to cover the field sideline to sideline. The NFL already knows what Rolle can do and now the question is whether or not he can do it after being away from the game for a year. Rolle has first round talent, but he will need to have a decent NFL combine and show everybody that there is no rust. 1/17 Update: Rolle will participate in the Senior Bowl on January 30th and his performance there will go a long way in determining his draft stock. Rolle is certainly a very talented safety, but he has been away from the game for a year and it will be interesting to see how he does at all the workouts. Rolle was granted an extended break from Oxford to participate in the workouts and will return to England afterwords to complete his degree. Some team will get a talented player, but it might take a little time for Rolle to get back into the swing of things and that will make his stock drop (unless he has some amazing workouts between now and the draft). 4/5 Update: Rolle was surprisingly prepared for the workouts leading up to the draft. Even though most of the attention was about him leaving football for a year, the safety looked the part and, by most accounts, is committed to playing football. Whether or not a team believes that is up to them, but Rolle is saying and doing all the right things. That should boost his stock. His 40 times have been solid, but he did not participate in Florida State's pro day and will hold his own on April 7th. If he runs closer to a 4.5 40, teams will finally figure out that he is a football player with a legitimate NFL future, not just Rhode Scholar.
