2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Greg Middleton, DE, Indiana
Greg Middleton came out of nowhere as a sophomore to wow professional scouts across the country. Middleton led the nation in sacks with 16 in 2007; tallying 50 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 4 passes broken up in coverage, forcing 1 fumble and returning a fumble for a touchdown. Scouts were talking about him as a second round pick at one point, which has changed drastically. In the two seasons since his breakout 2007, Middleton has registered just 56 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 7 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles. There have been issues with Middleton off the field (and questions about his effort on it) that may scare some scouts away. Middleton isn't slow, but he doesn't really qualify as a speed rusher either. He uses a quick first step coupled with a good array of pass rushing moves to beat opposing blockers. He is, however, extremely strong -- even stronger than his 6'3", 284 pound frame would indicate. He appears to be at his best on obvious passing downs when he can explode off the line and bull rush over helpless tackles. Middleton is still a bit of a work in progress, but someone will take a chance on his talent in the sixth or seventh round.
