2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Al Woods, DT, LSU

At the moment, Woods is all style and not much substance. It's just hard to garner playing time when you are a linemen for LSU, as the Tigers could compete with almost any NFL team up front. Woods, now a junior, is backing up Charles Alexander at left defensive tackle while searching for playing time. When Woods is on the field, he has the talent to do some damage on the defensive front. He played six games as a freshman and 12 as a sophomore, starting once. In a limited role Woods still managed two sacks and three fumble recoveries. Like all Tiger linemen, Woods is blessed with great size and he can also run under 5.1 in the 40-yard-dash, a pretty decent clip for a man of his physical stature. He can be effective against both the run and the pass, so he simply needs more experience to show it. NFL scouts often draft wild cards based on pure physical ability as opposed to on-field exploits, so Woods could be a second-rounder in April's draft if he departs Baton Rouge early. Nonetheless, Woods would be wise to wait it out and get some real exposure as a senior. If he does that, he could realize his first-round talent as a 2010 pick.
