Amobi Okoye Scouting Report

2007 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville
Amobi Okoye signed to play at Louisville at just 15 years of age and played his first collegiate game at 16 years old. Imagine, at 16 playing Division I football against athletes 3-6 years older, yet Okoye managed to hold his own. He is extremely strong and takes up plenty of space in the middle against the run. Okoye is still learning the game, but has progressed throughout his college career (though occasionally his inexperience is noticeable). His natural strength allows him to shed blockers easily, in addition to getting good penetration as a pass rusher. He plays smart and rarely makes key mistakes; however he is also not the playmaker type to dominate a game on a consistent basis. Okoye may be asked to play nose tackle in a 3-4 scheme, but most likely will be a better fit at defensive tackle. His young age and raw talent represent tremendous potential for his new team in the NFL. Okoye will be mentioned in plenty of conversations amongst NFL scouts leading up to the draft. Look for Okoye to be a mid-to-late first round selection.
