2009 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Emanuel Cook, SS, South Carolina

South Carolina boasts the SEC's best defense (in terms of total defense at right around 250 yards per game) and Cook is a big reason why. Through nine games, he leads the Gamecocks with 72 tackles. The strong safety appears well on his way to racking up more accolades from the conference. He was named a Second-Team All-SEC performer by the coaches as a sophomore in 2007 after recording 92 tackles, four sacks, three interceptions, and two forced fumbles. High on experience despite only being a junior, Cook started all 10 games in which he played as a true freshman in 2005. He had 47 tackles and a forced fumble en route to earning Freshman All-SEC honors. Cook is only 5'10'' and 210 pounds, so it is conceivable that he might move to cornerback whenever he decides to try his hand at the next level. What he lacks in size, however, he makes up for by being a hard-hitting and fundamentally-sound tackler. Cook also has 4.46 speed in the 40-yard-dash and he will no doubt become a special teams contributor on Sundays. He could go in the second round if he decides to leave early, and a first-round selection is a real possibility if he waits until 2010.
