2009 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Curtis Taylor, FS, LSU
Question: what do the LSU defense and the economy have in common right now? Answer: their stocks are both way down. Curtis' own draft outlook, as a result, is also on tenuous ground. It didn't help that the free safety struggled for much of the season (as did the 7-5 Tigers, who went 3-5 in the SEC), although he did have a recent solid performance against South Carolina. Physically, Curtis is more impressive than he has been on the field, and that will help him when it comes to his NFL Draft status. He has good size at 6'3'' and 204 pounds and can run under 4.5 in the 40-yard-dash. A hard hitter, Curtis has been effective against the run in addition to being technically-sound while defending the pass. Curtis has started the past two seasons in Baton Rouge after backing up current Washington Redskins standout LaRon Landry. He will probably need similar tutelage at the next level before he is able to step in and make an impact. With his potential, however, Curtis should be off the board no later than the fourth round come next April and a strong combine could convince at least one NFL team to take him earlier than that.
