2009 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person

Coye Francies, CB, San Jose State

Francies is one of those rare physical specimens who carries a high boom-bust factor into the 2009 NFL Draft. His best asset is speed -- with a 4.35 40 time (2009 time), Francies showed he can run with most NFL receiver. He showed great closing speed, good tracking technique and he plays the ball well while in the air. Francies reacts quickly on plays in front of him and also showed good adjustments when backpedaling. A workout warrior, he will show up to support the run and does not shy away from contact. There were character concerns early on in his career, but he had a model stint at San Jose State. Francies however doe lack top tier experience (he only has one year experience as a full time starter with San Jose State). He is also thin as a rail and needs to add bulk and upper body strength. Francies is still very raw and it will take time to adjust to the speed of the pro game. A better press defender than a zone cover player at this time, Francies does not show shutdown ability. Francies has good, but raw talent and is far from being a finished product. His ability to press cover and his tracking technique are better suited for a safety position. The lack of experience is a major concern, but because of a perceived lack of top cornerback prospects in this class, Francies will probably go higher than his talent and level of play may warrant. Nevertheless, Francies projects as a solid corner with versatility. He will be a mid-to-late second rounder.
